          Greetings,

I have a quick question. My friend has an Apache RTR HyperEdge 160. The vibrations seem to have increased over time. Anything that can be done to reduce it?

          Thanks for any suggestions.

Hey guys, my ride has got a few problems. Here they go,

            1. Whenever I go over speed breakers and potholes at speeds above 20 or when I apply the front brakes with a good amount of pressure, I get a feedback on the handlebars as if the handlebar moves a notch forward and comes back. But when I checked the clipon adjustment bolt, it wasn't loose or anything. I re-tightened it and the problem still exists. I'm suspecting the front forks for causing this. What could be the problem?

            2. I had got the front fork oil replaced at 12K km on the ODO about 2 months back as the front suspension was making a squeaking noise when travelling over bumps and potholes. But the sound came back after about 1K km of getting it fixed. Now, my ODO reading is 14.2k km and it's making worse squeaks than ever before. Was the previous fork oil replacement a case of usual shoddy TVS SVC job or do I need to get any other part replaced?

            3. The brake fluid level in the front disc's reservoir doesn't stay stable. It keeps on shaking when the bike is on the move(I thought that happened only in jar type reservoirs) and the levels vary when I turn the bike's handlebars when it's stationary.

Here are the images of the fluid level

Do I need to rebleed the brakes? BTW, the bleeding was sort of messed up by the guy at the SVC when I got the brake pads replaced.

            4. The front brakes have freeplay till about half the distance. The SVC guy said a 'piston retention kit' or something like that needs to be replaced for that and it costs about Rs. 300. But I though it could be corrected with proper bleeding and he was just trying to rip me off. Who's correct in this matter?

            5. The chain has developed zig-zagness due to poor maintenance. Is there any risk of the chain getting cut when I'm travelling? If it's just the noise I can bear it. Else I'll change the entire set. The SVC mech said that there is no risk of chain getting cut. But still I need opinion from you guys about it...

            Thanks in advance...

Your first issue of handle bar is due cone set. For your second issue check the suspension springs try to keep your forks clean. For your 3rd & 4th query first get your brakes top up (if needed) & bleed, there should never be any play in the brake lever. If the play still exists then may be your mechanic is right, What about your brake light due to the play? (brake switch). For the chain keep it clean, well lubed & rust free. Maintain vertical play around 1 to 1.5 inch & the chain won't give you any trouble.

Wow.. I was about to post about the same problem(s) but my brake oil level is much lower than your... The problem 3 & 4 appear to be serious & sometime real scary, especially when you have to pull half of the lever to start getting some brakes ... I read that the brake fluid/oil has to be changed after a year or so.. I'm thinking to change to a DOT4 & get a proper brake bleeding done..
My bike's chain would'nt get tightened..so, got the sprockets and chain changed, now no sound & no tension of chain snapping...

I think my rear wheel is not rotating freely,if we rotate it with hand and leave it stops immediately. Also a lot of force need to be applied for moving the bike around in neutral.Scratches are found on both front and rear discs.Pads still have a lot of life. Also some sound is emerging from rear side when riding.
                  Replaced chain+sprocket 500km before.Any idea?

PS Which oil are are you using?
Guys my bike is getting overheated again and again. I have completed 4th service and the problem started after that.
                    i have checked few things.
                    1) Engine oil level, it is fine.
                    2) Cleaned the Carb.
                    3) Adjusted the Air Fuel screw to somewhat richer mixture.
                    4) Cleaned the Air Filter

Still my bike is getting overheated again and again after 10-15 mins travel can feel them between my legs, if i ride for an hour the heat shoot up to the engine tank. Have taken my bike numerous times to SVC's. They said it is fine.

When I was using tvs 30 grade oil I could feel the heat on my legs..then switched to castrol mineral oil of 40 grade.Try switching to any 40 grade oil..also check spark plug and clean..

the answer is pretty much in your question itself, try pressure washing the brake assembly, maybe some dirt or grime is lodged there thereby making the restricted movement of the rear wheel.
Since you said that the chain sprocket was replaced only 500kms back , do check if the chain has been tightened too much, check the assigned free play value from the manual and check the freeplay in the chain on your bike. If its too tight also the problem can be caused, but then there will be terrible sound from the front sprocket area.

                        Cheers

Well, First 2 pics are without dashboard and looks unfinished. The third pic is with dashboard, but stupid angle to be clicked. One need to see the side profile.

Hey guyz..any idea whats the price for complete chain-set change? By complete I meant, front sprockets+rear sprockets+chain...

Also I would like to know how much it would cost for decarbing engine..I'm fed up with the mileage part as I'm getting below 40kmpl in RTR-160 even though I havent done any insane riding & most of my riding is between 4.5k to 5.5k rpm. Gear shiftings between 4~4.5k rpm.
I had tried a lot by cleaing carbs, air filters & all, but still the problem persists...Mine is just 23k+ in odo..
Will this decarb solve the mileage issue?? Any idea regarding the cost & is it ok to open the engine this soon??

Today i inspected my bike, i started the bike, and Idle nut to increase the to 3.5 RPM and checked the engine.

I can see visually see the heat fumes coming near the exhaust joint to engine, this is after started my engine after a minute. I was hit by a bike 1.5 months back on my exhaust, i got the unusual sound at the time, near the exhaust joint to the engine, i got it fixed by taking to the svc (they adjusted the joint)

Is the heat fumes (visible) from the engine near the exhaust joint is this normal, or is it the cause of the issue. Please give some advice, as i am a novice, and my SVC is not helping me.
