Re: TVS Apache RTR 180
Guys !!! Help !!!
My rtr is due for its next oil change in a week or so & I am now stuck in a peculiar situation.
I am currently using shell ax7 since july which has done 1800kms. I am not able to source it again online & we do not get this oil here in bhubaneswar.
So only option is to switch to motul 5100.
Now 5100 is available in 2 grades
1. 10w30
2. 15w50.
Now as you see I have done close to 1800kms in 4 months which definitly & irrevocably means I am a city rider. The max I do in a day is 10km.
So the obvious choice should be 10w30.
Now here starts the trouble.
Actually next month I will going on a long ride (with pillion ). Close to 430km. Its a 1 day trip.
Now if I use the 10w30 will it be capable enough to manage the highway runs with a pillion & that too for the whole of the trip ??
which should I choose ??
An insight will be greatly appreciated.
ThanxTVS Apache RTR 180 (2014 - ….)

Re: TVS Apache RTR 180
Having used MOTUL 5100 15W50 i must say the oil takes atleast 3-5 minutes to warm up. That is the only problem with this oil that i expreienced. Otherwise the oil is good, smooth gearshifts, lesser vibes etc. But during winter, i'd go with 10w30 itself. As you are saying you need to go on a long ride, i think w50 oil would provide more protection buddy! Just keep an eye on oil level during the trip. In my case it had reached the min mark after a few tripsOriginally posted by Mr_Many_Places View PostGuys !!! Help !!!

Oh yes bro. I was waiting for an update from you. Thanx for that.Originally posted by sanjaynk15 View PostHaving used MOTUL 5100 15W50 i must say the oil takes atleast 3-5 minutes to warm up. This will be my only trip. I intend to use the bike only within the city after the trip. I shall keep an eye on the oil level. The oil level with tvs & shell hardly went down. How many kms did you do untill the oil reached the min mark ?? Do you do frequent long distance riding ??TVS Apache RTR 180 (2014 - ….)

Re: TVS Apache RTR 180
Yes. Its available here but I am a bit apprehensive about it being a 20w40 grade. I wanted xW to be close to 10 & apart from shell only motul comes close.Originally posted by suj View PostCan u find valvoline champ 4t 20w40 in your town..it's semi syntheticTVS Apache RTR 180 (2014 - ….)

Re: TVS Apache RTR 180
The oil level started decreasing after about 1400 kms buddy. But can't be sure that oil is the culprit because i had to change bore-piston later as the bore had started to consume oil. So basically its a good oil. I would suggest it for your ride but during city rides it takes a while to warm up and bike doesn't start easily and requires a few cranks. I go on rides but when my bike was running on this oil i rode about 80% in the city and went for rides within 250kms max.Originally posted by Mr_Many_Places View PostOh yes bro. Thanx a lot sanjaynk15 & suj.
I will keep you guys informed about my final selection. It will be either 5100 (10w30 or 15w50). I have ridden the rtr with motul 3000. The refinement is ordinary, i.e like tvs oil.TVS Apache RTR 180 (2014 - ….)

Re: TVS Apache RTR 180
Sorry bro I misread your post. I never knew that the 3100 is available in 10w40 grade. I thought only 10w30 is available.Originally posted by suj View PostNo yar I am not talking about motul 3000 20w40 which is a mineral oil .I am referring bout motul 3100 which is a semi synthetic techno synthesis without ester base, costs about 390 and comes in 20w50 and 10w40 grade.TVS Apache RTR 180 (2014 - ….)
