    • The scene with TVS

I hope you all read my previous post about my bike...So I went around looking for a new tyre as the showroom guys - refused - to start work on my bike without the tyre . I looked out for Michellins, MRFS , whatever I could get and guess what ...they dont have the same profile as Apache 180 . you cant fit higher profile tyres of the same alloy size without 'welding' some parts.

If anyone here knows what tyre can be fitted on the apache 180 without much adjustments...please help out

So yeah I asked the service center guys what tyre could be fitted and they're like "I don't know". The head mech of the service center said "he doesn't know. I'll give you the alloy ..you go look for a tyre."

I accepted to their thing and I asked them if I could come and look at the service cause so far all your services have been very bad . They replied - "You ask whatever you need.Other than that mind your own business"

So I went to meet the manager of the showroom - Koohinoor TVS Chennai - for those who want to know . I told that guy this is the scene and he said he can only get me the tyre and other than that you can't do anything about it.

      - Point to be noted by all - TVS in chennai doesnt have stock for Apache 180 tyres...ANYWHERE. Their factory does not send them tyres either .

The manager calls up the factory and he's like Customers waiting can you please send some tyres to the showroom as soon as possible?

The guy said no...The manager lost his cool and he goes like " I dont want this issue to leave my office . Please send tyres. Bye"

He told me he'll get me the rear tyre...I asked him when and the reply was He doesn't know.

If anybody on XBHP knows how I can let the higher authorities know...PLEASE..PLEASE HELP ME.

Chicane , u have anything to say abt it?

Buy dunlop geo cruiser 100/90-17. It looks as meatier as stock 110/80-17. Refer to my previous posts for pics of 100/90-18 on my RTR.

            • 9000kms Report!!

Finally the bike crossed 9000kms:7500kms(old meter)+1600kms(new) and what a ride it has been so far.The bike has opened up really good and the performance is just getting better and better. Touchwood!!

              Problems Faced:
              (1) Bike's speedo trying to send intergalactic messages and then restarting of its own. Replaced the whole speedo assembly.

              (2) Knocking at high speeds:Reason: Improper tuning.Had to use Xtra Premium for maximum time and then during 3rd service it got rectified. Now the bike isn't knocking and is smoother than before.

              (3) Bike's rear lamp not engaging while applying front brake. The SVC people were clueless because the switch was working fine. And when applying the brake the speedo console was lighting up faintly. So instead they changed the whole rear LED lamp assembly!! This was replaced during 4th service.

Mind you,the bike is ridden or should i say 'ripped' by two different riders. Both of us are kind to the bike but only where it's required.

              Service Experience so far: Excellent!!

              VEEDOL Super Swift Review:

As i have mentioned before, normally i tend to rate an engine oil only after the bike logs in enough kms.Initial Experience wasn't that good but i got to ride the bike after it covered 300 kms and boy what change the oil has brought to the machine. It's simply Amazing. The characteristic handlebar vibrations have disappeared by miles and the bike is much eager than before. The only letdown is the bike's engine growl has got subdued somewhat may be because of new found smoothness. Veedol simply rocks, never thought that it would go this good with the RTR. I am yet to try it on my Victor.

              @Grafix
I hope you have got what you wanted.I am sure the mechanic would have never heard of this oil. There knowledge is limited to Castrol Activ 4T(it's a good oil, though but not for RTRs)

              Engine oil changes so far:

110kms:Elf Moto 4 Gold (Motoman Method) "Very Good Mineral Oil"
              2835kms:Elf Moto4 Gold-2nd service
5300kms:Motul 5100T Semi-synthetic-3rd Service "Superb but is not of recommended rating"
              ~8700kms:Veedol Super Swift-4th Service

If its his first service then he should be sticking to mineral oil only. RTR180's recommended oil grade is 20W40. But the main problem your friend is going to face is that the SVC guys will be saying he has to use TVS TRU4 during the free services otherwise the warranty will be void, to which your friend should be "lending a deaf ear" as Renny so correctly puts it Even i did the same. The SVC guys told me that i was the first guy in the town who did not put the TVS oil in the first service.

Now coming back to the oils you can use are Shell, Gulf, Castrol. These are easily available. There are a few others also like Petronas and Mobil but since you are saying you couldnt find Motul, i dont think you would be getting these either at your place. Whatever oil you use just remember to stick to mineral for the time being.

                    • Changed both my tires today. Got an MRF zapper FS (front tyre of P220)for the front one. And the zapper S (rear tyre of R15) for the rear. Tried some twisties after putting them on. The grip is just awesome! Even a great lean angles it inspires lot of confidence, a lot lot more than the TVS tyres. Will be able to comment on them more after notching up a few miles.

But one thing that has happened is that the top speed has got reduced while the acceleration has increased. Earlier my bike used to ride at 53 (speedo indicated) at 4k rpm in 5th gear. Now its doing 50 at the same. Might have to do some re-sprocketing later. Also expecting an increase in mileage. Will post more on it soon.

                      • Hey guys got thru my 1st service 2day.Here is the report.

KMS covered whn i gave for the 1st service - 615 kms.

                        SERVICE CENTRE exprience -

the major problem u face here in chennai - language, so while i was communicating wid the SVC mechanic in English, i could sense he hardly is getting me...so i had 2 slow down, use some sign language and breakup english i.e speak the sentence in parts..he he...newazz i had not much of trobule till now TOUCHWOOD ! ! !...so just said him 2 go for the regular service...as per the manual...

ENgine Oil - TVS TRUE 4. No idea how it is..had plans 4 MOBIL or MOTUL....but then stuck 2 it as i thnk that is what TVS recommends(correct me if i am wrong)...newazz as it was my 1st service so stuck 2 it...will be gng 4 a MOTUL or MOBIL during te 2nd service 4 sure..

one major doubt i have is the SVC guys didnt charge me for CHAIN LUBE...i dont know why...its a O'RING and its prelubed same as that one used in a FZ....but in case of my frnds FZ the SVC guys charged him for the chain lubrication during his 1st service. so guys do the chain needs 2 be lubed by a dedicated chain lube for O'RING chain during the 1st service???

whn my bike came out after 1st service..i asked the SVC guy if he had lubed the chain...and he said yes...i chkd it out..and it was lyk cleaned and greased from outside as its been done in any other closed chain bike...so i am still puzzled about the chain lubrication....its duration in KMS for re-lubricating???...and the brand of chain lube??

rest of the service was carried out as per the manual. they gave me a feedback form too....and i wonder if it goes 2 the dustbin or they actually go thru each of it ! ! !

Another concern is the running in period...manual says MAX SPEED 50km/hr and i wonder how it doesnt mention the RPM???...which is really crucial...

newazz my concern is i have been riding most of the times in betwn 4k-5k rpm after i crossed 300kms...and speed is in between 55-60km/hr...yesterday went for a 84km/hr and had rode in between 70 -75km/hr for about 20- 25 mins...i wonder if its really gonna affect the perfomance on the long run...esp smoothness and mileage.

Yeah it is 20W40. Stick to a mineral for the first 5000kms. Go for Castrol Activ 4T/Elf Moto 4 Gold. And even the TRU4 isn't that bad.

Nice. Can we have some pics of the rear tyre please.Just curious to see how it looks on the 180.

                            @Pritish

Brief moments of ripping/high speed run wouldn't affect a bike during running-in.Just make sure that you dont do it for extended period of time/frequently.

The rear tyre is a direct fit. Will try to post pics tonight. And about the increase in acceleration and decrease in speed thing, a guy at the tyres thread had this to say.
