Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
That's what i was thinking and i even told my mechanic to change the fork oil but he refused and said fork oil must be changed when fork seals leaks, not every now and then, now should i change the oil myself, i have to purchase tools for doing this thing, after how many kms do you suggest fork oil change, and which oil should i go for my Rx-100, although i have always used Yamaha's OE fork oil.Originally posted by sibun View Post

Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
Hi Experts,
I few questions running in my mind and few issue that I'm facing in my bike. Looking forward for the help!!!
1. Both wheel rim has rust on side walls. Tried cleaning with kerosene, Rust remover and etc... But still it has been hard to remove all. Can I try painting inner part of rim? Puncture guy was telling not to do that as it may shorten life of tube/tire. Need help in removing rust further and opinion on painting rim inner part.
2. My Speedometer provides reading without any issue, but odometer not at all moving. Please help me in repairing my odometer
3. Fuel indicator always provides different readings (lot of fluctuation ) . What would have gone wrong... How to make it work accurately?
4. I cleaned Airfilter as said Pinaki, I have made foam wet with gear oil 90 but by adding droplets (not by having in cover). I'm feeling foam is not wet up to mark. Will that cause any issue if foam is bit dry?
5. Cleaned contact point in horn my opening it as said by paul in forum from then horn is not all working. What should I need to check and any check list?
My bike completed 90K kilometer, on my own and knwoldge I have gather from forum accomplished below tasks:
1. Cleaned Chain as suggest in forum.
2. Cleaned Air filter.
3. Cleaned break drum and shoe as suggested by pinaki.
4. Changes head lamp bulb, and front side indicator bulbs.
5. Changed front tyre (Ceat F85) and rare tyre (Ceat Mileaze since M86 was not available)
6. Cleaned bike with water, then car shampoo and finally again with water.
7. Polished with waxpol (Got it from Bangalore distributor directly at cheaper rate).
8. Tired cleaning horn, failed to make it work
After this bike has become smooth, pulling is good and looks like new bike
No plan to service other parts till I get few minor issue corrected which I have stated above.
Regards,
Pradeep

Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
About your wheel rims , rapair them asap . Rust weakened rims are dangerous to ride on . Tyrewalah is saying bakwas - if you clean and de-rust properly and let the paint dry to hardness in sun ( few days needed ) and apply french-chalk powder , new rim tape rubber - no problem . Since your bike has run quite a lot , also tighten the spokes and check if wheel & sprocket bearings need grease etc , while you are at it .
Read this , it may be of some help - http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/motorcyc...tml#post604383 .
With the air filter mounted in the bike , open air filter box cover and touch the upper part of the foam with a clean dry finger . Now does it make your finger-tip a little oily ? That's the right amount of oil , ok . Yes , under oiled foams let dust pass through . Over oiled makes a drip all inside the airbox and the bike runs rich .
The fuel meter is an approximate device , it varies with battery charge too - with practice I can now predict it
Next time you begin with "hi , experts" I am not replying , ok
?
LOL , mechanics here say change fork oil every year and seals when they leak . I just replace both every 2-3 years , but this time I'll try to retain the seals if they are not leaking as you all say .Originally posted by kusmaker View Post.. Is it necessary to change the fork oil at every 10k, kilometers, some mechanics says that the fork oil should only be changed once they start leaking with seals ofcourse, otherwise there is no need to put fresh oil with old seals.
Change your fork oil , use veedol fork oil - it's the right grade for Splendor etc . Gulf has made my bike's front end a bit stiff , I like it soft just like from factory .
Carb fitted back on bike today and she started up nicely and runs much much better
. Particularly - idles by itself with me standing away from the bike - which wasn't happening earlier . So unclogging the pilot jet worked . I didn't even tune it just returned it to the settings that were there before the service . Tomorrow I shall go looking for the air-screw o-ring , as paul noticed , and he's right - it's quashed . If I don't find it , he shall have to get it for me now .

I have a hero passion pro 2012 model which is giving 65-70 on highways and 60-65 on city. Just loves the torque produced by these little engines...Originally posted by deep007 View PostThe only thing that take me away from the hero bikes like 97cc is mileage.if I get the mileage figure from the current owner that would be great.

It depends on so many factors that this is not always straightforward to reply . On my 2010 Splendor+ I get between 65 to 70 kmpl , usually around 70 . But I am a careful rider and maintain the bike in good condition , check oil and tyre pressure , oil chain almost weekly etc etc . You can expect between 55 and 65 kmpl , at least . In the Hero range with this engine type , best mileage is to be expected from the HF Dawn , kick-spoke version - simply because it's the lightest in weight .Originally posted by deep007 View PostThe only thing that take me away from the hero bikes like 97cc is mileage.if I get the mileage figure from the current owner that would be great ...
If your main concern is mileage , you should also check the Bajaj bikes like platina and TVS star city . Their fuel mileage is much higher . But in these , mileage deteriorates quickly with years . Which is not the case with the Hero bikes . Now decide what you prefer

Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
Regarding mileage then let me tell you that there are bikes that will give higher mileage but none of the bikes will have longetivity and less maintenance like Hero bikes. Moreover Hero bikes quality is much better in quality than competitors.Originally posted by deep007 View PostI have purchased bajaj platina 100cc and used it for 6 months and then i sold it.i get a mileage of 76kmpl at a speed of 40-45kmph but i sold it due to the handling when taking quick turn and also looks are not great.

All spares be it small or big is best. Come on nobody thinks so much while buying a splendor. Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
Is the carburetor settings the same for both CD100 and Splendor?
I follow Pinaki Sir's setting and have trouble only with idle screw as sometimes setting idle screw just before knocking down improves the bike's FE and makes the engine sound and beat more crisp and distinct. I don't know whether im doing it the right way.

Hi everyone, my friend recently picked up a used gladiator SS(2009) for about 25k and which was run only 34k on odo. He is now facing issues which seem very strange.
1.> The bike smokes when throttle is revved to max at neutral. (Bike was serviced recently, and service engineer at YASS says all gladiators smoke, even new ones)
2.> The bike is jerky and is not smooth running.( YASS advised to change clutch plates)
3.> the frame is rusted near crash guard mounting points and requires arc welding. ( This requires arc welding and battery removal, can a can of metal past do the job here?)
4.> Spark plug : (Any recommendations, i noticed its the same NGK one for splendor)
5.> The air filter is paper type.( It just requires replacement at 10k can this be cleaned and reused like foam and mesh types?)
6.> The bike is currently running on Shell 20W40.(Is this good for long distance rides as my friend wants to visit his hometown, i.e 630kmns upward.)
Can the experts advice me as my friend is contemplating sale of gladiator as its eating up his funds on multiple visits to YASS.

Thanks PinakiSir, will do as you say and leave it at HH SVC. However my past visits to HH Svc has not been good. Infact the reason for me to DIY service my motorcycles can be attributed to the shoddy mechanics at HH SVC. I have tried almost all HH SVC in Bengaluru, but result is same. Some HH SVC do not entertain over counter sale, some do not let customers into the service bay and several such stupid regulations have made me take matters into my own hand.Originally posted by Pinaki View PostNo fret brother . My humble suggestions -
1 . forget the book . Get the chain adjusted from any local mechanic . Every fortnight dip an old toothbrush in 90 gear-oil and lube chain with it . You need to remove the bottom part of chain cover only - 2 number 10 nuts . Baas .
2. If you suspect the clutch plates , have them replaced . Clutch plate set is quite cheap . Go to a good Hero ASC nearby to you and they shall do clutch plate replacement , rotor filter clean , oil screen filter clean and tappet adjustment for you - all at once . labour charge at ASC for all these should be around Rs 200 total . Plus cost of a) clutch side gasket b ) clutch plate set c) one bottle Hero oil - thats it .
3. Try to observe how the ASC mechanic does these jobs - and next time you shall be able to do them by yourself . You just need to see it once - it's that simple .
4. All our engines make oil very dark and dirty in around 1500 kms of use . It's a normal fuction of the oil - to clean and absorb engine effluents and hold it in a suspension . Not any problem in this . Just replace the oil in 2000 and all is well

Iam forced to leave my ZMR at HH SVC as its FI and am familiar with only carb ones. This too is at a SVC which is perhaps the better one among ASCs.
I will surely try my luck with the above svc and see if i can get these done well, and probably learn a trick or two from them mechanics.

Help for fork straightening
Friends,
I own a Hero Splendor for past 02 years. The bike is being used for daily commute to my work place which is approx 44 kms (to and fro).
The bike is serviced at regular intervals & us running perfect. But of late for past few months I have been feeling that the bike drifts to right while riding & also there is some noise from the handle bar.
After checking front front I have found that the front fork alignment is slightly tilted towards right.
So is it due to this & how can I get it corrected. What could be the charges for the same.

Re: Help for fork straightening
Most probably your bike's steering stem bearings are worn now at around 30k kms . Replace the bearings and racer . Replace fork oil . It's unlikely that the fork is bend .... but not impossible too . But first do these 2 easier things and see . It should not cost you more than Rs 600 for both at the ASC . I'm 90% sure that this shall solve your handlebar problemsOriginally posted by mh41002141 View Post... I own a Hero Splendor for past 02 years. Re: Help for fork straightening
Thanks Pinaki for your prompt reply.
I have checked the handle bar & have found that the front wheel & its front fender is not in line. have checked with ASC they say that fork straitening & replacement of bearing wil cost around Rs. 400-450. Also if handle bar is to be replaced then it will cost another Rs. 300.
So please suggest
