I think some ill omen is set on me and the bike... as todays fall was unexpected and no fault of mine or the bike...and the speed was also lesscompared to what i drive on other days...IT was when i was just coming out of my society gate and took the right turn at a speed of 20...

Do not know what happened... went to the same place afterwards for a accident scene investigation to see if any gravel or sand was their , which resulted in my fall.. but to my surprize their was non...

      • Ninja Front Disc Pads

        Hi Guys,

I would like to know the typical life of Front Disc pads of Ninja.

I'm asking this because my bike's Front disc pads have reached the end of its life. It has done 4950 Kms so far. Of late, the front discs lost its bite very much. Today, I got the PBK chennai guys to check them out. I've been told, that they have to be changed...

Is it normal for the break pads to wear off within 5000 Kms? Please share your views.

sorry to hear about that. I don't know the situation you were in but if you lean too much on slow speeds the bike tends to fall .. this is normal in any bike ..

disc pad wear and tear depends on how you drive and how much brakes do you use ... there are plenty of posts in this thread about varying life of the pads but on an average i think the pads do get changed on the second service i.e 6000 kms however, there have been people who conserved their pads for 12000 kms or so. It is very easy for you to find out if the pads are gone by looking at their width and if it is gone it needs to be replaced no matter how many kms you clocked

I use only my front disc most of the time (80%)... once/twice a week, i take my bike to Office in peak hour traffic. I go for a 300 kms ride on all weekends.

I went on a 1000 Kms trip recently (which includes riding up a mountain of 1500m height)... I guess, this would've busted the pads prematurely...

Could be that you took the turn at very low speed and the weight of the bike overwhelmed you.

Dont worry about the bike. With some time and money it'll be back to its gleaming self. Get some gear to protect you better. Thats more important.

Edit - time you took the bike to a temple for a pooja. A pair of frame sliders should be on the list too.

Depends on the way you ride Senthil. If you're using the brakes a lot (quick deceleration from high speeds) then expect them to wear out pretty fast.

My front brake pads were changed at around the 6k or 7k mark. My odo currently reads 8.5k and the rear pad has still some life. It may need a change in another 1k or 2k kms i reckon. I use both the brakes in combination with the front being more biased. Rear brake is only tapped lightly to shed excess speed quickly.

I had one incident where a flat piece of marble came below my front tyre causing the bike to skid...this was on the 1st gear at almost 10kmph...made the same happend to ya

Bout the frame sliders I'm using puig (check out the DSG website). They're no cut...else there's shogun (requires some cutting work)...hope this helps...ride safe...

                      Hi Aditya,

I've changed the Front disc pad for Rs.1300/-. Let's hope that this one lasts more Kms.

Let me know when you want to buy the knee guards. I can get you a discount at Orion so dont worry. I bought the A* bionic knee guards for 4.8k (Retails at 5.2k).

Go for the Puig Frame Sliders. Costs around 6k with shipping. Available at DSG (pune) and Bachoo Motors (mumbai). If you remember, when we rode to Nandi hills I mentioned that I was ordering them and asked if you want a set. I got a pair for myself and a pair for Alok (his xbhp ID is Exo).

I have the Puig ones too. Bought them from Bachoo motors, Mumbai. The shogun sliders requires that you grind the counter shaft cover for installation. Thats the downside but they are supposedly the best.

Well dont hope that it would last longer. The new ones are no different from the ones on the bike which came from the factory. Your riding style will determine the life of the pad's.

Yeah it was me that met up with you guys in Chennai. Are you riding this weekend with the boys?

For knee guards Cramster bionic seems to be value for money with 1600 bucks with shipping.. do visit their website. But these guys sell only online and i haven't seen any product review as yet.

I recently got Puig Frame sliders from Ultimate Auto Impex (Mumbai) for 6.2k with fitting though these frame sliders retail at 6500 bucks and are best for ninja. But there is months of waiting for green colour, i dint wait and went with black once.

Few pics with frame sliders and how the fitting is done.

very sorry for what happened. it is quite interesting to note the fact that a 1000 ninjas has been sold and only a handful of us share the experiences in this forum / or members in xbhp. our roads(not highways) and traffic is sort of unique and not a very text book situation for ninja or for any sport bike. all of you know that the handle turns less on the ninja compared to a normal bike. this is one root cause of unknown falls. also in a high traffic situation an indian bike may have a better chance to survive a reckless bus driver pushing you off road than our beloved ninja. in stopping and turning especially keeping the handle locked on one side you have to very careful on a variety of counts like proper gear, balance, holding the weight of the bike, grip of your foot on the road at the time of turn etc.. if not a dropped bike will be the result.

may be these are the pains of owning a super bike. but things will get better over time. but i feel that kawasaki or Bajaj can really think of reducing the cost of spares as a good no of ninjas are on the road. and this reduction will go a long way in making the ninja owners happy especially on difficult time's like a dropped bike.
