    Hi Guys,

I had a minor crash yesterday nite. There was a spill (oil/greasy water) on the road just 5-10 metres before a speed breaker and I braked (I do front only) and the bike slid out from under me. The bike fell to the right (not very fast, I would have been around 15, max 20 kph). I picked it up and apart from the crash guard on the right being bent, a small dent in the exhaust (already dented previously from an earlier major accident), rear brake lever scuffed off and a 3-4 inch long scratch/gash on the right fairing there was no other visible damage (no broken indicators, no other fairing damage, no apparent performance loss (although I was a little tired to notice this).

What, according to you, should the major concern areas be?

P.S. I came back from CSS without a crash, and guess what the first riding experience back in town was like .
If it's a two way traffic road, then the on-coming vehicles must have dragged the water- greasy spill a little further to ur lane making slippery surface even before you could see the actual area of the spillage.

In that situations one need not panic brake to lock up his front wheel, just a gentle braking is enough to lock-up the front causing the bike to give-up on the road.

Congrats on the last one mate!

    • I have not really looked for any fluid leakage, but the bike seems to be working fine as I rode it back home (10 kms) without any hassles at decent speeds.

I have to take the bike to Bajaj anyway to change the footpegs (worn out during CSS), replace brake pads, check the tyre condition (maybe the tires are gone (they have started graining very heavily), I have done 5200 kms, ~800 of them on the track).

I'll take it there quicker now.

      @n_aditya : I have Puig

It was a one way road, but someone had maybe gone the wrong way on it and dragged it a little back. Also, given the graining on my tyres, even a minor spill could have caused it.

Switch to Bridgestone Batallax BT045 or Pirelli Sport Demon's. The IRC's are obscenely expensive at Bajaj.

I have the Puig sliders too and nice to know they held up pretty well and didnt cause major damage to the fairing requiring a replacement.

So do you have to replace the damaged slider or can it be "repaired" to get it back into shape?

I saw the shogun sliders on a fellow ninja's owners bike and it looked awesome and stronger. But when i checked with the service center chief, he suggested Puig. Main reason, Puig is bolted on to the bike via a "flange" unlike the shogun's which directly mount onto the chassis. A crash with the shogun's could damage the chassis. And i believe this guy cos he is very knowledgeable and he is well versed with bigger bikes such as SBK's.

Of course, with higher speeds the extent of damage could be higher even with a slider.

So for the interested folks, Puig frame sliders would be the one to invest in.

        • While I was gathering myself after the incident, there was a guy who has helping me who put the slider back into shape with his hand. I need to check with the guy who installed it on whether repairs would be needed.

                  With his hands! Yikes!

This is exactly why I'm still in two minds whether to go in for sliders or not.

The Puig version has what looks like a pretty flimsy flange, so the amount of damage that it can prevent is questionable. In fact, I've been told that it can at best do its job if the bike is merely dropped or falls at near stationary speeds.

The Shogun type which bolts onto the chassis ( I thought it was the engine block?? ) ,is supposedly much more sturdy but then again I've read somewhere that in a shunt, the damage could be transmitted to the more valuable heart of the bike, where without the sliders, the much cheaper to repair/replace fairings would have taken the force of the impact.

Now I'm even more split down the middle.

Looks can be deceptive Worst case, your flange will bend and you can get a new one. But if the chassis gets damaged, bye-bye ninja. Shogun has an engine mount bolt too.

                      • Do keep in mind that sliders are most effective for soft crashes...like during a turn or skid at slow speed, etc...a high speed crash/slip slide will anyway mess up the bike...My soft crash in the parking lot resulted in a bent handle bar...a slider would have shielded that...

unless you plan on keeping the green seat... you also have the option of re-skinning it black.

will work out much cheaper too.

Yes, I am planning. The total cost will be around 10K

Re-skinning means changing the green leather/plastic to a black one?? How will be the quality and finish????
