I picked up the Pirelli Sport Demon 140/70/17 (rear tire) over the weekend for 3.8k from an importer/distributor who supplies tires to Sai Iyengar and others in Blore.
Sai Iyengar quoted 4.4k for this size.
Apparently the govt. has stopped imports of tires which have no ISI markings on them. Me thinks, the Indian tire co's lobbied against their foreign counterparts due to low demand and hence this move from the govt.
Imported tires are now sold at a premium and also difficult to get due to the importing that is on hold.
If anyone is due for a tire change, best time to pick up a set would be now.
My new tire is parked at home since the stock IRC has another 2000 kms to go before a change. Didn't want to risk not getting a tire later and hence went ahead and bought one. Only 2 pieces were left.
P.S. Thanks to Mav1234 for his help. He referred me to this tire shop. Its called Tire Junction and the owners name is Mahesh. Very helpful and friendly chap. Shop is located on Jayanagar 9th block.ATGATT - Because hospital ceilings are boring !!!
