did anyone try to play with headlights yet?? means anybody changed to HID or some other lamp like x-treme power or Osram nightbreakers??
stock bulbs of ninja are good enough(not excellent though)
i changed my stock bulbs to osram nightbreakers(whitish light) and one of my friend changed to PIAA bulbs which are brillant and expensive too.

        • Completed the first phase of run-in

Completed a run of 700kms in 13Hrs (only an hour off the saddle for breaks and eating)...the 4K rpm was maintained throughout which in turn made my bum sore ...anyway finally the odo now reads 875 kms. The last 75 kms were pure bliss. The way it pulls from 4k to 6k, feels superb. Things worth the money, are coming out now.

@toolkit: congratulations bro...a mini saddlesore, but no doubt a morale booster for the real one...
@milan: welcome to the band, dude. Which color did you choose?

I switched my high beam bulb to Philips X-treme Power (+100% brightness ; 35m beam spread) and i found it great. This is also compliant with the stock rating of 12v 55w.

IIRC, Gurpreet singh has installed HID's on his bike. PM him for details.

Best to maintain the tire pressures as per recommended values. Higher air pressures will expand the air when the tire heats up. This increases tire life but downside is that since the contact patch reduces, your tire grip also reduces. Dangerous and not advisable since the chances of blow-out also increase as air expands when hot.

Lower than recommended pressure will have a super sticky traction but lower tire life. Stay within the recommended readings for your own safety and of course for the safety of others too.

            • Yes, finally this weekend everthing was sorted. Tyre hugger, HID and flasher for indicators (now the tail light with integrated turn signals works). HID is quite powerful and will easily blind anyone and everyone in front (especially at night)

Will try to post some pictures that were clicked from my i-phone.

Adi, I had also recently installed the same one but i would not say it is +100% brightness but just a small bump over the stock one.

The stock bulb and the Philips X-treme power (and previously X-treme Vision) all share the same product codes - 12729.

My assumption is that our bikes come with the X-treme vision +80% brightness bulb as stock (same product code but other minor subtle differences are present in the bulb coating etc.) which has now been phased out and replaced with the X-treme power ones. Thats why you feel the improvement is only marginal.

In the US markets their stock bulbs are not philips and they have expressed superior levels of satisfaction upon switching to the X-treme visions/powers.

                      IIRC the speedo indicates 65kmph @4000 rpm and 85kmph @ 6000 rpm.

Been over a year and a half since my run in and i can't seem to remember this accurately.

                      • Engine was running a bit rough ever after my Maharashtra Trip. And since last week there was a slight knocking noise from the engine. The Mechanic was super busy today and asked me to bring the bike as early as 8 30 AM after Wednesday so that he would have enough time to work on the Bike.

He suspects tappets to be loose or Some thing to do with Valve Clearance.

The Bike has run close to 22000 Kilometers and I use the bike everyday, across very bad roads. Could the tappets go loose within 20k kilometers? or Is it a problem of riding on potholed roads everyday?

Do you feel the noise like loose marbles on idling? If yes, then that is the tappets gone loose.
Tappets will get loose more often if you are running the bike at higher speeds for long/revving up very high often. It is expected to happen in touring bikes-nothing to worry about. R15's tappet clearance adjustment is every 6K kms. Not sure about Ninja's.
Just see that he checks the tappet clearance with the feeler gauge (looks like a blade)&sets according to the prescribed mm. as per manual. There should be 8 valves in case of Ninja so that definitely requires some time&patience as the clearance is around 0.1-0.2mm.&even a small increase/decrease can cause major differences in power delivery&smoothness.
In any case, its nothing complicated, just needs a steady hand so let him do it patiently&then check the bike's response after he is done. If you feel the bike is not revving up freely or feels restrained, he may have overtightened so ask him to do it again properly.
No harm in adjusting multiple times as well till he gets all valve clearances right.

May be valve clearance setting,...how many Kms since engine oil change ?

                              • Yes people riding with me have said I'm a little hard on the throttle , so could be the loose tappets. I feel it while Idling and in slower speeds. In higher speeds i do not hear it anyway.

Another reason, Its been a while since i changed the Engine Oil. 2500-3000 Kilometers.
