Moving on... stopped by at the KTM showroom today. The mini-Duke looks pretty darn good. Remarkably light, looks better in person and sounds... interesting. I might describe the exhaust note as "punchy". What I found interesting is the plastic mud screen on the radiator. The Ninja sure could use one of those. I'd try getting one made but I'm snowed under with work. Or maybe I'm just lazy. It's hard to tell, sometimes.

Also, being stuck in traffic doesn't feel as bad any more. Spotted a Ferrari on Indiranagar 100ft road doing 10.0 kmph in Saturday evening traffic. Poor guy.
Even i have plans to fix one on mine.

Black Ferrari?! i saw one doing the same when I was at blore in Dec!

    1. Is it normal for me to feel like wanting to shift to a higher gear even when I am in the 6th gear? The torque feels so high (to me) that I keep trying to shift another gear only to realize there isn't one - I had a Ninja for two years and I was looking for the imaginary 7th gear even in the last month of ownership, so that makes two of us!
    Make that three!

    • I too look for the imaginary 7th gear . Of late,my front brake feels spongy and is devoid of feel and works only if the lever is pressed a bit hard. Now,feathering the lever is no good.:-( ive checked the brake pads and the brake fluid and both are normal..any idea as to what could be the problem also should the coolant be diluted with water or can it just be poured in concentrate form? Btw,did anyone see 2 green ninjas at pbk Chennai today at 3?

      • Yeah, I was at KTM too.

About the meetup, ronthedon just got his Ninja and we've been riding around. In fact, we're riding to Nandi Hills tomorrow, so interested may join!

And I was at KTM too. The Duke 200 is a good looker. I saw ronthedon take off with his Ninja and I stayed back for a bit of a photoshoot with the Duke 200. Here are the photos.

          2. Is it okay to use the engine braking? - it is so powerful that it easily accounts for a 30% speed reduction just letting it go.
As you may have figured by now, you're not the only one Shifting to 7th gear? : KawiForums.com Kawasaki Forums: Kawasaki motorcycle forums (90% polled "yes"). It's time for me to replace my sprockets and I'm picking a 15T front to lower the rpm a bit. I engine brake quite a bit too. Feels natural for some reason.

About the mudguard, it'll be a while before the KTM spares are available... what do you have in mind? Worst case, I'll try some local fabrication before the rains start.

I'm no Ferrari expert so after comparing against a couple of pictures, it looks like a recent Italia. Classic red. Sounds incredible.

Well, we had a fun ride. I completed my first 800 kms on the bike, and started revving it to some serious levels today (still under 6k though). And it's like the bike comes to life after 4k rpm. The engine just pushes you with boundless torque and with just a nudge over/under 6k, you'll be thundering at 80 kmph.

Not just that, the way the motorcycle gets to those speeds is also deceptive. 40 - 80 doesn't take much time at all and it's obvious that this baby can take you to some serious speeds.

I'll be posting the pictures soon.

Just a question: Can the Bangalore Ninja owners have some sort of a meetup at the KTM Showroom sometime? I was toying with the idea. It'll be nice meeting each other in person and sharing ideas and so forth.

And here are the pictures from today's ride to Nandi Hills: Blackbirds

                  3. Is it normal for the brake lever to have more play than the clutch? Yes, the brake lever is much softer/has more play than the clutch.
                  4. Is there a recommended tubeless tyre puncture repair kit and how necessary is it? A tubeless kit only make sense if you have a portable foot pump. Otherwise all roadside puncture fixers can repair tubeless tyres.
Thanks so much Buddy. Just curious, what bike do you have now? You were one of the people whose travelogues and inputs (not to mention the DIYs) helped me finalize the Ninja.

                    You're welcome.

I now just have the Royal Enfield. To be honest, I was a bit hasty in selling off the Ninja, I should have held on to it till a suitable replacement showed itself in the Indian market.

Now my weekends are boring and I watch motorcycle porn (of yet to be launched bikes) whenever I have time.

Actually that was the first thing I mentioned (see link below) when I saw the CBR pictures last year! Should be a straight fit.

Ah. Sorry to hear that. I am trying to ride within the city and get the running in done. Seems like the best way to run it in without exceeding the 4k limit and yet exploring the range till that limit nicely. Downfall is that the roads are terrible within the city. But then again, it is allowing me to get used to the bike's dynamics in terms of its bulk, braking, surprises and what not.

I use this (Code No.:440007) and highly recommend carrying it on any long rides/trips. If you find a nail in the tire, just stop at any fuel bunk, fix the puncture and fill air and ride on. Saves the effort of carrying a pump around. I have fixed 2 punctures on my bike with this and many other punctures on friends bikes during our trips. Takes only a few mins (<5) to fix the puncture.

No offence saar, but i'd rather do it myself. Plus its cheap, the kit costs around 400 bucks and it contains quite a few adhesive strips. AFAIK, the roadside repair guy would charge a lot more considering one is riding a sportsbike. I guess they normally charge 100 bucks for such a job.

I have the FZ hugger and not using it anymore since I switched to a 140 profile tire. Reason is the hugger touches the tire. If anyone wants the hugger, please let me know. I stay in malleswaram and the interested one will need to come over and collect it.
