I am sure you would have taken a few drops on the dipstick ,touched it and made your observation. First of all heat contained by the small amount of oil will dissipate into the colder surrounding and so when you touched it, it was relatively less hot. If you had drained the entire 1+ liter of oil and pushed your hand into it, you will know the actual heat,by touch(DON'T EVER DO IT).....
    2. In the exhaust there is a Cat convertor which works on heat, and then you have the "silencer" and/or baffles which sends the hot gasses through a labyrinth to cool it so it's velocity diminishes and reduce the sound it emits.
The heat in exhaust, and engine will rise if you change to lesser viscosity oil (lesser particles),so engine oil does take heat away..many here have experienced it when they changed to a 20w40 from 10w30 grade oil.
    Hope I make sense.
    ^^ PSR,

Yes it was just a few drops..

Well I just made a few experiments and some observations and based on your explanation, I could conclude that the oil does its job perfectly on transferring heat and lubricating. Am I correct Sir??

But still I don't feel any decrese of the amount of heat neither from switching from 10W30 HH oil to 20W40 mineral NOR from 20W40 mineral to 10W40 Fully Synthetic(very expensive too).. So still im in a confusion whether to continue use this oil.. Shoul I cover more Kms to make the decision? Already done over 600kms with this oil..

Ant thank you very much for the detailed explanation..

    • If the heat is really concerning you , I'd say you better measure it with a thermometer .. before making conclusions based on guesstimate . A good makeshift test is if a drop of water placed on the hot outer casing evaporates instantly ... it's past 100C and you should get worried . If changing oil grade to a good 20w40 isn't making it any better ( after you measure it ! ) then the engine overheat is not because of the oil and you gotta check elsewhere . You can't solve a non-oil problem with the best synthetic oil you may buy .

ZMR depends on Air Cooling to a large extent and oil cooling for may be 20% of engine heat exchange..the total covering of the engine sides with fairing will lead to heat . Even in my ZMA-R I found that removing the bottom cowl/fairing made a good difference to engine heating..Now with the removal it is much cooler..so you do have a problem of air circulation..A full fairing will give aerodynamic advantage, but reduces the air circulation in and around engine leading to lesser heat dissipation.
Further the ZMR is mapped for lean AFR mix, which further increases the operating temperature.
Using a thicker oil will give that much more better heat dissipation than a thinner oil..so a 20w40 is ideally suited to the Karizma engine.Do not go for thicker grade as it will make the engine sluggish,or a thinner one as it will make it hotter and oil will deteriorate in just 600 to 800 Kms.

        • Hi All,
Is there any thing i could do to prevent the oil cooler fins bending while cleaning it with high force water jet?Is any radiator shield available to perform the job. Those damn illiterate bike cleaning guys no matter how hard i explain not to put water nozzle inside front cowl,They do.I seriously fear for the jet force could bend the fins.

As usual my friend is perfect with his figures (FOURTEENTH time @ 19516 kms.) and good to see you have changed major of the things at near to 20k kms.
Replace the words "I have to" with "I choose to" and notice the difference in how you feel.

                            • Hi all,

Can anyone tell me about the availability of ZMR's Radiator??
I got my ZMR serviced almost two months back and the service guy there suggested my to get the radiator changed as the fins have got damaged.

I am not able to find the radiator till now, inquired about 3 4 service centers and none have it or information available for the same.
Can anyone tell me about the availability and the price for the same?

Also, I dont get to ride my ZMR allot (courtesy my work timings), so i generally am able to ride 1000 - 1500 km in two months.

should i get my bike serviced in 1500 km??? I am using Castrol Power 1 Racing 10W50

                              Please suggest guys...
                              PEACE!!!!\/

                              RESPECT!!!!
