Man, This one is looking damn good. Had never fallen in love with ZMR before. Looks like a Classic Honda of 90's. Just got an Idea what Hero should do now. Use this exact frame, and plonk in the 'ZMA' engine(without FI). Might even cost less by 1-2K.
Please stick to the round headlight. U might get a bigger diameter one in the future though(or may be twin lamps). But,Tank extensions are must.
    Are the indicators, Honda CBR's?

And can we have a side profile view please???

      • Hi guys. Hope you all are maintaining your rides well. Always check and lubricate your chain well. If not your fuel efficiency will take huge hit. I learned this the hard way. Though I always kept the chain lubricated but never checked for tight spots and this resulted in drop of 10kmpl.

        • can you elaborate about tight spots?

Tight spots are kinks in the chain.

After adjusting a loose/new chain to spec, I would roll the bike a few feet. I discover the chain would be as tight as it can be! Roll a few more feet, chain is loose, roll a few feet, chain is tight, so on and so forth.

It implies that the chain gets tighter when a certain area gets to the front/rear sprocket.

              • I still need to complete the mod, there is quite a lot of final finishing to be done.

                List of things done

Remove the complete fairing, speedometer and its clamps from chassis. Includes meter clamp too.
Remove the headlight wire including bank angle sensor.
Get headlight stays - To hold round headlight and indicators.
Get round headlight of the bike which you like . I got it from Road-king with ambassador reflector (it can withstand heat of any bulb).
Get the indicator assembly from Unicorn/Stunner. Bajaj's may not work as the bulb watt is different.

Get hold of a mechanic who can fit all these stuff for you. Any mechanic can do this.

                Now the speedometer.
I personally felt the speedometer is huge for a round headlight. I might get rid of it.
Got a custom made meter clamp from lathe which took enormous time to get the measurements correct and mount it.

Headlight used is 7" seal beam, so getting bigger than that would be tough. Tank scoop, I really need that to complete the look, but I don't want to tinker the tank. Any straight fit scoop ?

I shall post few more pictures soon.

Well.. I didn't measure performance, but the ride feel is much much better. Did a 150km long ride d very next day after installing this setup. I could happily cruise at 90's as earlier if not better. Much easier in Bangalore city traffic now.

Best part I liked is, there is no drag for cross winds like earlier !! Its a great relief for me on highways.

                • Guys, Any recommendation on a good handle grip brand for ZMR ???

I had been using the grips showroom had fitted at the time of purchase.. but removed them today as i never felt comfortable with them.. they were kinda hard & a bit too thick for a nice hold.. However the feeling is even worse with the naked handle bars.. too thin now

There are a hell lot of grips available in the market.. but if anyone has a favorite then please do suggest.. the one which has provided you a nice hold, not too rough n hard, comfortable on a long ride & durable ofcourse..

                  My Bikes:
Yamaha RD (The one which taught me what riding is; Can never forget this one)
Bajaj Caliber (The one closest to my heart; I still have it after 15 yrs !)
Yamaha R15 V2.0 (The best I had; Ah it let me become the college hunk I once used to be :) )
Hero Honda Karizma ZMR (The bike for the family man in me; The practical one; The current one)

But isn't the aerodynamics as important on long rides?? maybe not the cross winds.. but the wind hitting on your face! how is the handling now? any gain or loss in avg?

The zmr wind shield is useless. As are other windshields. Your head is way above the shield and its precence or absence is hardly anything. Unless you are crouching.

Dude, I think you got a bit wrong there.,The wind shield in most case (bike) is not only used to deflect air from you but mainly from bike and to direct it to side ways (To tear the layer of air in front). So,you cannot say it is useless. If you need to get full use of it you have to crouch as you said.Without the windshield, you may even feel difficult to reach top speed as there is nothing to direct air sideways. And the drawback of the windshield is mainly it cannot handle crosswinds.

I agree it cuts the air and helps in aerodynamics. But the wind blast across your face would be same. Your head is way above the windshield bro. Sit straight on your bike and you'l see. The lower wind gets deflected sideways by the shield. But what about the wind in front of your head? There's nothing to deflect that

Naah... Nothing fancy... I'd a local fancy foam type grip for the initial 18k kms. Then they peeled off, being foam type. Got another local grip and using them for 7k kms now.

Who said aerodynamics only relates to the wind shield? It only paves way for the bike to lurch forward with lesser drag. Of course I agree that ZMR's wind shield is way too small. CBRs are way better!
But barring the Avenger, no bike has a wind screen to protect the rider's face/chest.

                            • I haven't checked the FE yet. And I am least bothered about top speed. For me cross wind issue was bothering more than cutting the wind while going straight. I think adding a proper/decent windshield should solve the problem to some extent if not full.

Per me, aerodynamics comes into picture when you are limiting the bike on track OR riding like nuts on highways. For decent speed cruising I don't think it matters a lot.

AFAIK ZMR's fairing is not aerodynamically tested (wind tunnel testing I guess) like the R15/CBR, correct me if I am wrong.

I am not sure what you are tyring to say here mate. but its helps me out in a lot of ways.. I love the ZMR's windshield.. of course.. in a sitting position tht the ZMR offers.. the windshield doesn't play any vital role.. however.. when it rains.. or when there is heavy wind.. or when it freezing cold.. just crouch.. and hell yeahhhh.. there is the pleasure.. it protects you better in these conditions... i don't get the water hitting my face directly.. nor the wind gets past it.. and during winter.. again.. it pushes the air away.. and i guess the windshield usually on bikes are for crouching position only.. atleast for those of full faired and half faired bikes.. if you are looking for a windshield like those of in Avenger or in RE.. you will have to give up on the beautiful looking fairing..
