Glad that you are safe. Your bike took all the beating and protected you, unlike some manufacturers- I feel that hero does not compromise on the rider's safety in the name of styling.

I happen to travel on single lane district highways quite frequently so I am sharing my experience.
The correct way to overtake any lorry/truck/bus/heavy-vehicle is to overtake from the right side and to maintain sufficient distance and not tailgate, this way you will have a better field of view of the oncoming traffic as we will be using the opposite lane momentarily during overtaking.
While most people get too close(tailgate) to the vehicle they are overtaking, maintaining sufficient distance is actually much safer and also easier.
Also never overtake a vehicle along with another vehicle. I have seen this many times, one car/bike following another car/bike while overtaking a heavy vehicle blindly and dangerously.

In short- If you get too close to the vehicle that you want to overtake, close the throttle, let the distance between you and the vehicle ahead increase, check for oncoming traffic, open the throttle and overtake from right side.

Most of the truckers in AP respond to horn and indicate whether it is safe to overtake or not by giving hand signal.

On a multi-lane highway where slow moving vehicles are on the right most lane(fast lane)-
Sound your horn and see whether he moves to the left lane or gives any indication. If he does not then wait for more than 10secs(because the vehicle in front of you can abruptly change the lane if he decides to), increase the distance between you and the vehicle ahead (almost double(or even triple) the distance what you would have maintained while overtaking from the right side ) This is because you will need much more field of view and check for any slow/broken-down/parked vehicles that might obstruct your overtaking maneuver. If everything is clear then only overtake from the left. Please note that overtaking from left is very dangerous and should be almost considered as a taboo.

Don't ask me how many times I have seen bikers being pushed out of the highways by the truckers.

Yes.. absolutely correct.. but my concern after that was.. thank God nothing like that happened to my friends.. if it had happened with my pal who was taking the lead then all the three of us would have ended up crashing and God knows what would have happened after that..

Also i guess these were bad indications of what could have happened on our way to Manali..

Lesson learnt from my silly mistake and will never make that mistake again..
