i'm still in the run in period

done a bit over 700 km on the bike. wont look for top speeds just yet.. around a thousand more and it will be chennai-bangalore-chennai.. i'll give it a try then
    Why Biking?
Because all other sports need only one BALL!!

    • I think the rear brake is quite adequate but yes a rear disc would be nice if it wouldn't be a little too much for the p135..

yeah..nin and another guy achieved that speed and they both also completed the saddlesore...and installing a monoshock would require a few modifications and a very good mechanic who knows his job otherwise your bike may just end up being defunct...

        • First Service experience

Hey guy's I wasn't active for some time but that doesn't means that I was not reading. Just didn't had anything to say.

By the way I completed 506 KMS today. Hurray (but it took 15 days)
So was the time for first service.

I went in and the guys told me that I can wait for 1/2 hour and it will be done.
They said I can go with the mechanic to see what he is doing on my bike.
          Things he did :
          1. Changed oil. (actually he overfilled it and also took the oil from a big blue drum of oil that was named bajaj DTSI 20W50. he measured 1 litre and poured it in.)
          2. opened Air filter and it was super clean.
          3. Changed paper oil filter. (it is a small cylindrical piece.)

I told him that gears were clunky and he tightened the chain and tightened the clutch (now the clutch engages at the end rather than in middle.) Hurray my gears are smoother and I can hit neutral on a traffic signal easily.

I was very impressed. Total cost 350 for oil and 30 for filter and 7 labor.

Now my bike feels much better. But I just felt that he didn't open the carburetor ? I think it should be cleaned. And what about the DTSI oil, he said no need to change it in 10000 kms. I am worried. is there such a oil ?
he said it would take a top up fill in 5000kms and then change at 10000.
Should I rather change it at regular 2000kms ? and put castrol active extra 20W50 ?

There is no need to open Carburetor!! not this early.. may be you can ask him to do that once in 5000kms. Regarding DTS-i oil, that's what Bajaj claims, but if you are using bike regularly, then you will know when to change the oil. If the oil is at the end of it's life, you can feel that gear shifts are not so smooth, engine noise will be a bit more than usual and you feel like engine is not revving smoothly. That's the time you need to go for change. Normally 2000-2500 kms is a good time to change if you are using mineral oil.

By the way, give us an update on how DTS-i oil is doing, was using Motul 15w50 mineral oil.

bajaj dtsi 10000 never worked for me....i think you should better go for a change at every 1500 kms....and you can use elf or something of ur choice but make sure its ok for bikes...and mayb you can shift to motul after 4000kms..which i heard is a safe limit though i don't know for sure...

              • Seriously need help!

Don't know that how many of you are facing this problem.. but sometimes.. my mill(p135) runs as smooth as butter.. but on any other day it runs as heavy as if there are three persons sitting on it..

when i got it checked from my regular street side mechanic (servicing only at BSC).. he ripped the bike hard and after putting his hands on silencer told me "yaar, ye to dhuan de rahi hai (still ripping it).. warranty me hai na.. isko le jao.. aur bolo (BSC) ki piston change kare valve dead hai"

Valve dead @ 13679 Km.. never ripped it beyond 85 kmph (excluding twice)..

Went straight to DEWAN BAJAJ, OKHLA, NEW DELHI.. there i told service center guy to check it.. "thodi bhaari chal rahi hai".. check kari aur 20 minute baad la ke bola.. "clutch plate down hai"..

usko bataya.. bhai.. ghumne jana hai.. ~1200 kms.. chali jayegi.. bola haan..

But i am still confused what to do.. clutch plate worn out @ 13679 km..
Is BAJAJ showing its true color??

Confused whether to go home on it or not..

                What should i do???

                • Got MY P135 today...Hurray...A great day all over. Rode around 40KM today itself. Is it OK? Few things that I want to know-
                  1. What should be the RPM when I insert the key and switch it on?
                  2. Will there be any Problem if I ride around 60KMPH once or twice during the run in period?
                  3. How long is the Run in period? Is there anything else that I should take care of during this period.

Please answer my questions. I know you have a tight schedule. Thanks for your help!!!!!

don't know about the valve...bt clutch plate may wear out at above 13000 km on the odo...bt sometimes the p135 does feel heavy and a little unresponsive bt nt so much that it feels like 3 people sitting on it...
my advice would be change the clutch plate as soon as you reach home..or better change it before you go if you feel like..

First of all..congrats for your new ride dude....p135 is quite a beauty..

                      1. just adjust the rpm at about 1.5k initially...
                      2. nope..there shouldn't be any problem if you do it once or twice..but don't do it more than that to avoid long term damage.a guy i know ripped it during the run-in period and his ride was never the same again.
                      3. the run-in period is upto 1000km-not above 45 in 5th gear and upto 2000km-not above 60 in 5th gear. do the run in properly and as given in your manual. don't rush it.. i did that and am getting wonderful results now.
nothing much to take care during this period, just get your first service done properly and let your ride settle down before pushing the limits.

1>Due to auto-choke, the rpm may rise upto 4k aand then be normal.
2>60kph shoot for some time wont hamper the bike.Once or twicce is fine .But dont rip it from the first day.
3>run in period may be for 1k.Ask for the sales person or read in the manual.A new bike is like an infant, needs to be taken careof. Use appropriate engine oil. Check oil leakage, suspension, disc brake sound, front wheel.

Last but not the least, congrats for your bike.

Clutch plate wore down at 13000 kms is normal and can happen with any bike, It largely depends on clutch usage style by the rider. Get your clutch plate replaced as soon as you can.

                            Bike running heavy :

                            1. check the air hole at the petrol inlet, it should not be blocked.
(before starting your bike open your tank and then start it, it should let the required air in the tank and this helps many times.)
                            2. get your chain cleaned and lubricated.

                            Hope it helps.

                            • Mileage check ????

I just checked my bike's mileage at around 500 kms and was super happy.
                              61.5 kms/ltr

                              method for testing:
as soon as the bike hit reserve zeroed the trip meter, went to petrol pump (1.5 kms) and filled in Rs 70/- Extra premium (0.99 liters).
for 2 days I rode the bike smoothly around 40-45 kmph. And at 59.9 kms it hit reserve. So add the 1.5 kms (59.9 + 1.5 = 61.4 kmpl).

What are you guys out there getting ???? (specially the ones who have crossed 10000 kms.)

                              • When to do the second service

                                Hi Guyz,

I am a little confused here on when to do the Second free service of the bike.
It has run around 1600kms...i did its first service around 600kms...
In the manual it says 4500kms but i think its too long for a bike to go without servicing...
What do you guyz suggest....pls reply asap...
My gear is becoming harder and its very hard to shift gears now...moreover somethings loose inside the silencer...like a stone or some nut is inside it...dont knw...
Can i give my bike to the SVC just to get these probs solved and without going for the second service...pls help me here guyz as its my first owned bike and don't want to mess up my baby...
