Of course it should be. Try to get hold your sales manager. Normally those guys have a little more authority and would be able get you the parts for free. Otherwise, the branch manager would be the safest bet, only problem is he is never around.!Originally posted by prafultripathy View PostDoN\'t LivE tO DiE, dIe tO LiVe

Just spoke to Service centre!
They were of the opinion that the piston rings are subject to wear and tear so they are not covered under warranty. But they are not completely sure about it!
Now if the PBK is correct, then the entire engine is subject to wear & tear and the 5 year warranty offered by Bajaj is a farce!
Lets wait for more details before we conclude anything._________________________

Then what kind of warranty are they providing. Everything in the bike is subject to wear and tear in Indian road conditions. What they are telling you is absolute BS. Try to talk to the manager or higher up.Originally posted by prafultripathy View PostJust spoke to Service centre!

Failing of piston rings can cause engine Seizure. So it should be covered under warrenty.Originally posted by prafultripathy View PostJust spoke to Service centre!

Clutch plates/Chain Sprocket Set/Disc Pad/Filters/Gaskets are not covered in warranty AFAIK!Originally posted by inflammable View PostFailing of piston rings can cause engine Seizure. So it should be covered under warrenty.

But we really don't know the scope of the warranty provided by Bajaj on the engine. Don't remember, but I don't think its mentioned anywhere in the manual too.
My piston rings are being changed coz the bike is drinking oil!_________________________

@Praful: Warranty means a "manufacturing defect" whereas the regular/ normal running of an engine results in the wear and tear. Probably that is the reason it does not come under the 'free replacement' thing, because technically speaking, it is NOT a manufacturing defect.
That's what I think!:)

Good point Aryan!Originally posted by Aryan View Post@Praful: Warranty means a "manufacturing defect" whereas the regular/ normal running of an engine results in the wear and tear. So that means we need to also know as per manufacturers what is life of each component in the engine. Coz, it would only be covered under warranty if that particular part needs to be replaced before is expected life cycle.
If we don't know the expected life cycle of the parts, then Bajaj can easily tell us that so and so part is subjected to wear and tear and cannot be covered under warranty.
So again we again come back to the scopes and limits of the 5 year engine warranty!_________________________

It does make sense what you say. But then if there comes a time when there is a engine seizure because of a piston ring failing, then Bajaj would not replace the engine? Even with engine oil present? There could be so many cases of wear and tear inside. My take is when they say a 5 year warranty on the engine, it should be that there should be no need of opening up an engine for five years besides the regularities. If it is NOT mentioned in the manual, the scope of the piston rings, then it should be assumed not to be a part of wear and tear.Originally posted by Aryan View Post@Praful: Warranty means a "manufacturing defect" whereas the regular/ normal running of an engine results in the wear and tear. There is always a catch when a manufacturer says it provides 'warranty'. This is never clearly mentioned; hence the customer ends up paying from his own pocket whatever the amount.Originally posted by pranay View PostIt does make sense what you say. How I wish manufacturers would start giving 'guarantee' and not 'warranty'.

Damn these legal thingies. If not for Praful's problems, we would not have known so many things and maybe ended up with a huge huge dent in our pockets. Keep riding and finding more out, praful!Originally posted by Aryan View PostThere is always a catch when a manufacturer says it provides 'warranty'. If it comes from Bajaj, then it would definitely be on April 1st.Originally posted by prafultripathy View Post
I hope the day comes when manufacturers say our products don't need a warranty!

Yes, thats seems to be the only source of info now!Originally posted by Aryan View Post@Praful: I would advise you shoot a mail to Bajaj; they would be the best people to clear out this confusion regarding the "5 year engine warranty" thing.
