Hi Guys,

Recently on my P220 Fi I have started to hear these metal clapping sounds from the engine compartment side. When i showed it to a local mechanic shop near my house they said its an issue with the silencer and not the engine. But I am pretty sure that the metal clanging sound is from the engine side. And i have also observed that the power of the bike has too gone down badly. The KBX brakes just suck as years pass on. My bike is almost 8 years old now and I need her back in full power.

Could anyone advise what might be the problem here. I am based out of Bangalore and if anyone could share the best mechanic in town who could bring my 220 back into shape, it would be really great. I am not sure if i should be visiting the Khivraj Service Center in Bangalore.

I am pretty sure that metallic clanking sound is from exhaust. The welds on the internal bend pipe have broken. As a temp fix it can be welded. But in the long run it will need to be replaced.

Which side of town are you in? Mech suggestions can be given based on that. But I can assure you that no single place will fix all your problems, you will have to visit multiple different mechanics for different issues.

I'm facing a rather peculiar problem in my P220 Fi. Even if I shut down the bike the motor continues to tun till the time the battery is dead. The service center guys have not been able to solve the problem. Any possible leads?

Hi Praful,

Well I am based out of Marthahalli ( Doddanekundi), so i just wanted to check if there are any good mechanics around or should i check with Khivraj SC?

And you said that its an issue with the Silencer. If i have to fix it permanently whats the cost for it? Should i do it locally or should i check in Khivraj SC.

I would also want to do a good full service on my bike including small tuning and engine overhaul. So which mechanic shop would you refer me to?

If you pull the key out the engine still keeps running? The only way to kill it is to stall it?

I would recommend the most expensive option first. Get your bike full service at AutoService in Banashankari. The next service would be at some local mech after you have identified the issues after the service at AutoService. Google for location and contact details.

Service may take 2-4 days or more based on what parts you need to replace.

Thanks for pointing it out (y)
Yes exactly the same problem. I have already changed the relay once but the problem resurfaced with 15 days. Will get it replaced again with dome
shaped as I have replaced with the square one

Yes sir. Nopes you cannot stall it, you have to tap the relay really hard and hope that it stops else you have to disconnect the battery terminal

I too had the same problem once. I removed the wires attached to the battery by unscrewing the bolt on the battery with the key. The problem was with the relay. I beated the relay with my fingers and then connected the battery again and things became normal again.

Haven't been on the saddle for really long, apart from keeping the P220 in running condition by doing the occasional grocery runs. The front tyre needs a replacement, any recommendations ? Did look at changemytyre.com and it showed up the MRF Zapper.

Found the R15V2 to be a little expensive, I don't really ride a lot these days, I do intend do a few tours during the monsoons. Hence I want something that would have great wet grip. Have a Ceat Vertigo Sport on the rear and want a tyre that would complement it.

Stock front is the best bet presently.

But since you said you want something to complement the rear vertigo, I think you would need a tyre that slips in wet as much and the Michelin Pilot Sporty does just that

Hey all, hows it going?

I think I have a pretty major electrical problem in my bike, however I haven't been able to pinpoint exactly what it is.Over a period of time I have had several electrical shorts like the headlamp fuses blowing up, high beam staying on even when the switch is in low beam position, starting problems where the bike restarts on pressing the start button. Most recently, I had an incident where the bike switched of completely while riding and on start up the speedo was showing "ECU"(where the total kms is shown) and the bike refused to start, after a couple of key restarts, the bike started, but I'm anxious about the problem repeating.

What could be the reason and possible solution, should I go for an overhaul of the bikes electrical system, I recently got back from a trip to Sikkim/Bhutan so that could have taken a total. The bike is around 86k kms/8yrs old.

Any help on will be greatly appreciated. Praful looking for your expertise with the 220.

I have actually forgotten what the ECU on the console meant. Try searching this thread, it definitely has been discussed before. I think it was something to do low battery + issue with the relay circuit around the battery.

Headlamp frequently fusing = too much surge in the circuit, both the coils and relay circuit could be at fault.
High beam stays on even on low beam = 99% fused low beam bulb OR 1% chance switch is broken internally
Bike restarts on pressing start button = explain more, didn't get the problem

Have you ever replaced the wiring harness on the bike ? If not, do it ASAP. That solved a lot of my electrical issues, since the original harness from the 2007-2009 batch was pathetic. They improved loads from 2010 model onwards.

Also the switch gear if never changed till now, can be considered for a change. Loose contacts on the insides cause strange issues at times, for example my bike would randomly die after going over a pothole or a bump too hard. It was because the switchgear for ignition was broken internally, kept killing the bike over broken bits of road.

Thanks yet again for your help.Took it to the svc centre today, Playing around with the fuse near the relay reproduced the EC 3.9 problem. The mech said it was just loose, only time will tell whether that was the case :-/ . I changed the harness last year so I hope thats not the issue even though the bike has been through some gruelling rides in that period.

The low beam as well as the switch works most of the time, but the high beam problem occurs every now and then.

By bike restarts I meant after pressing the started the self-check on speedo happens again.

I think I'll have to wait n watch to see if the problem happens again, lets see,Will update in a few weeks. Thanks again.
