where to apply double tape? on the screws? and how?
the black sticker option is not much appreciable and the colgate trick will not work as headlight has turned yellow from inside due to dual HID

I started my bike after many months and put a new battery in. The starter didn't work, it sounded like "tak" on cranking.
Push starting worked like a charm. I then rode it for around 5km. Killed the engine using the switch and then tried the starter, it still sounded like "tak".
What could be wrong, the starter motor, the starter coil or what?
A month or two back I went to a local mechanic and he did connect two points with a screw driver and it started, at that point he said it's the battery. This time I got a new battery but still the same "tak" sound.
It may have been possible that the bike was started using the starter with the originally weak battery, did repeated attempts to start killed the starter?

Issue fixed, the local mechanic fixed the starter motor by tinkering with it.

          Carbon issue in the motor?

No clue, I wasnt there when the issue was fixed.
            It works fine now.
My bike is from Oct, 2007. I rode it after almost 4-5 months. Still, the way it revs and pulls is like its just broken in.
The exhaust note is also simply amazing.

              Hey guys!

I purchased my pulsar 220F in August 2011 and its been 4 years and 27K on the odometer. I have upgraded the tires to Michelin Pilot street radial around 10 months back. Everything is stock, just got a couple of replacements done like clutch plates, chain & sprocket, clutch lever & cable (all done a month back at Varun Bajaj, Hafeezpet). The bike was running perfectly up until a week back when it started showing some issues (Current Engine Oil: Valvoline 4t 20w50)
              • At lower rpm's the acceleration is really bad (Like when there is no fuel)
              • The rpm needle flickers a lot, even when there is no acceleration (goes to 12K easily as well)
              • The bike switches off more frequently then ever (idle for 2 seconds and off)
              • There is tak sound usually when starting and a constant bad noise after it starts (Starter motor/coil maybe?)

Are the above issues related? What could be causing the issues and also the best place to get them rectified in Hyderabad, preferably somewhere nearby Gachibowli.

              Thanks!
              Cheers.

              • I have simply inverted the rubber thing where the main stand hits when at rest. Works beautifully. No mod required. Main stand raised by 0.75 inch.

I'm following this thread from past few weeks as I own a P220fi(November 2007). My issue was similar to that of @forcooler's. The projector went OFF, speedometer stopped working and after a few days the bike refused to start.
It all started when the municipality guys selectively took my bike from a huge herd of parked bikes from a No-Parking zone. I don't know how they handled the bike or what have they done to it, I got it back in mere 20 mins, but the damage was already done.

I was broke, so thought to take the bike to service on next salary (which was indeed a mistake). But, before the salary could arrive, on one Sunday eve, it refused to start, it wasn't even making any sounds on pressing the ignition. I tried shaking the wiring with no success, then somehow took it to nearest mechanic and asked him to check the wiring. He started doing something weird with the wiring and checked the relay as well. He concluded that the mistake is in the relay and it needs to be replaced. He then went to a couple of Bajaj service stations and came back saying that P220fi's parts are rare to get and the service stations don't have them in stock. I pushed the bike back to my place and then went to the nearest Bajaj service station and asked them for relay problem, the guy there bluntly replied "Boss! agar relay ka problem hai to mai karwa dunga, but aur koi problem hai to mai help nahi kar paunga. Mere paas pehle se 2 P220fi khadi hui hain 2 mahine se. Maine lena hi bannd kar diya hai FI."(Boss! if the issue is with 'relay', I'll replace it. But, if the issue is with anything else, I won't be able to help you out. I've already got a couple of P220fi standing in my yard with some or the other issues. I've stopped taking FI for service.).
This was really disappointing for me, but being helpless, I took the bike to them next morning and asked them to call me by noon and let me know whatever is the problem. They called me in the evening and told me that they've replaced the starter relay and the bike has started to take the ignition, projector bulb was fused so they've replaced it as well. Then they told me that the harness is damaged and needs to be replaced, but it is quite hard to get. They've contacted there suppliers for the harness but the harness is not available with them and the probability of getting it in near future is very low. In the evening, I went there to get the bike, it started smoothly on the very first ignition attempt. I was so cherished with its sound. But, then to my surprise, the bike could only take the ignition on Neutral, which was a complete reciprocal of what used to happen before, i.e. the bike used to take the ignition only on gears and did not use to respond while on neutral. Anyways, I asked them to order the harness ASAP and let me know when it comes. While I was about to leave the service station, I came across a new issue. The bike may or may not take the ignition on first attempt and may require several attempts to get started. I called the service guy and told him the issue, he said the same thing again, "Sir, harness is the issue". I came back and called them on there phone for next whole week, but the harness never came.

After a few days, I located a renowned service station(a startup) and went there and told them about the issue and about the loose fairing's horrible sound. He assured me that he'll do everything he could to get the issue resolved. I had heard a very positive feedback of that center and thus I gave them the bike. The next day he called me and told me about the same thing, "The Harness Issue", or if that is not the issue, there is something wrong with the sensors. I was totally annoyed, but then he told me that the fairing and speedometer is fixed which gave me a sigh of relief. Then he told me that the Bajaj guys have somehow replaced your starter relay with that of Pulsar150's relay, which also could be the issue of this problem. He assured me that he'll get the harness arranged from somewhere. I don't know when will he do that.

Can you guys please confirm me that, is it really difficult to get P220FI's spare parts?
Can I get the harness from somewhere else?
What else could be the problem with my bike?

PS: My current location is PUNE, MH.

Hi brother. I would recommend you going to Krishna Bajaj (INOX cinema, Fun n Shop Mall, Fatima Nagar )in Fatima Nagar Chowk. (I hope this is not the service centre you went to ). From my experience, he has serviced lot many FI's and may be he can help you out. Dont go to Bajaj Service near Jagtap chowk, Wanorie(near fatima nagar if someones says you to) not trustworthy.

It is very strange that you have changed your pump thrice. The pump is good for 1L+ kms actually, but it is possible that it would have got damaged if you have run the bike to completely empty the tank or used poor quality fuel.

Also, did you replace your fuel filter? That needs to be changed every 3-5K kms, sooner if your area sees a lot of bad quality of fuel.

The choice to change over to carb is entirely yours, I wouldn't recommend it unless there are NO Bajaj Fi tuning service centers in your area.

Finally getting rid of the Michelin Sirac this weekend, its been 3+ years on this Sirac and it has got cracks on it now. After almost 7 years and 5 Sirac's I will be moving away to another tyre. Getting the Ceat Gripp XL 120/90-17 to replace this, fingers crossed that it has half decent grip in wet tarmac.

Among other things, need to replace coneset and rear shockers as both are bust !!

Apart from that the bike is running generally OK.

Odo reading is at 20K something, bike has done a 'little' more than that probably around 120K.
