Did you remove the AFR? Please also ensure that you cleaned the jets, even a small piece of lodged dirt can ensure poor performance. Also you will need to re-do the idle setting (most probable cause) since you removed the throttle cable ends and put them back on the carb (since you mention that when giving a bit of acceleration steadies the RPM).
Lol, I would be happy if anyone answers. Sometimes, we would learn by mistakes of others.

The only thing I didn't do was removing AFR. I have cleaned the jets, adjusted the idle and adjusted the AFR to 3.75 turns. Didn't touch open the rubber diaphragm though. Slide was moving freely when I put the carb back. In fact, I was able to touch 100 kmph. This is happening only at idle, means some issue in idle/pilot system. And, it won't die as soon as I put the bike in idle, it dies only after 10-15 seconds. If there is a block, it should happen all the time, like as soon as I leave the throttle, it should die, but thats not the case.

Check the cables for slackness. Idle setting is my main suspicion. While refitting, the idle setting might need to be redone. Once the bike is 'hot', set idle to 1300-1400, hopefully it would take care of the shutdown issue. Also, to verify this, check the play on the cables, if there is a bit of play at the accelerator grip, you might need to adjust the slack using the nuts for A/B cables at the carb end.

Plenty of suggestions in the thread, but a few quick tips.
1) Check for tappet noise (sewing machine sort of noise)
2) Check if the engine revs freely (the ZMA/ZMR engine is very smooth)
3) Check the body for rusting anywhere. Silencers usually rust, so don't worry about that.
4) Check bike condition
5) Fairing - if they're broken, it'll be expensive to replace them. Put a slight bit of pressure on ALL fairing parts and see if they are broken in any manner. If so, check if they're fixable with Araldite, else it's a no-no.
6) Brake Disc - if it's got lines on it, the previous owner let the brakes run down to the metal.
7) Tyres - Stock or newer? Check if there are cracks in the tyres. If so, you need to get them replaced.
8) Battery - check self start. If it works ok, look for any dimming in the console when applying the starter/turning on headlamp.
9) Check for smoothness of the clutch and smooth gear shifts. If there's a clanking noise, be sure to turn to your friendly neighbourhood mechanic to verify any odd sounds.
10) Check whether all indicators, rear lamp, pilot lamp, headlight and horn are working OK. If anything does not work, verify whether it's a wiring issue or a component issue. They are easy to replace and cheap, but wiring isn't.
11) Paint quality should be good, with minimal scratches. That can tell you a lot about how the previous owner used the bike.
12) Check the ODO, and see if the speedometer is working. If not, the bike might have run for much longer, running with a broken speedo cable.
13) Check chain for slackness, and see where the chain wear indicator marks are. If it's run down to the right, you might need to invest in a new chain/sprocket set.
14) Check for looseness or rattles anywhere while taking a test ride. If anything seems out of the ordinary, bring it to the notice of the mechanic you take along for the ride.
15) MOST important. The papers should be in order, insurance should be there, and you should remember to transfer the bike to your name ASAP. You would need the help of an RTO agent for that, but do not avoid that.
16) Good luck.

Sit on the bike. Look at the condition of the brake and clutch levers, bar-end weights, straightness of the bars and instrument cluster. These could be signs of an accident or drop. Others could be cracks or damages to the quarter fairing and body panels, scratched engine cases, foot pegs or exhaust pipes.

Hold the brake and bounce the front suspension. It should feel even and firm. Get off the bike and check the fork tubes for signs of rust, pitting and oil. These are signs of worn fork seals, or possible future expensive problems.

Put the bike on its center stand if so equipped; turn the bars side to side. Feel for any 'notchy-ness' or roughness in the steering head.

Check condition of the following: Meters, Cables, Brake Liners, etc. Wear and tear on tires. Rusted joints, nuts and bolts. Dents on silencers. Condition of chromed parts.

Take out for a short spin. Try to hear any unusual noises, feel any noticeable difference in handling, etc.
Keep your eyes open for any sort of leakage after the ride. Brake oil, engine oil etc, needs to be inside the bike, not on the floor.

You might also want to look at things like nuts and bolts that might be missing or might need some change. This is also important from the point of budgeting. It's a second hand bike, some expenditure on servicing is expected but the amount should be restricted.

^^ Adding more to above, please check if there is any smoke coming from the exhaust, the most important one. If there is light smoke above 6000 rpm, piston rings have begun to leak. If there is smoke at even low rpms, time to replace the bore.

Mine is a 2009 November ZMA. First 2 years it was run very low (just 5k between May 2010 and Feb 2011). Hoping for the NBs to reach me today. Lets plan to meet up some weekend

Thanks, ryan.virgo, for pointing me to this very helpful link.
Based on the post, and some more research on my part, I've now decided on the Philips X-treme Vision only. A single bulb is available online for ~Rs 570, and Rs 600 at a local shop.
On the Philips site, I also came across the Philips Diamond Vision, which I believe will also fit the my Karizma ZMR, but has a very hefty price tag of Rs. 1200.
So, has anyone tried it out, what was the experience? Is it really worth double the price?

Also, while upgrading the headlight, I was thinking of upgrading the position/pilot lamps too, to an LED setup. Any recommendations on that? Can anyone confirm if the socket type is 5w5?
I didn't find the specific one on the above link on the Philips website. However, the closest match, Philips T10, 5w is way too expensive for me @ Rs 1749.
Will the Philips BlueVision work instead, and will it be a meaningful upgrade?

Diamond vision - whiter light, not brighter. Xtreme Vision is the right way to go.
Any T10 socket LEDs should fit. Check some auto accessories shops. Also note that LEDs might need to be put in a particular way in the socket (polarity), so test the pilot lamp before putting it into the socket.

The results were same for all these bikes, between 10.5 to 11 kg/cm2. Yet to get hold of a new ZMA. I am seeing around so many new ZMAs, but can't test them. Even if I request anyone, they might suspect me for doing something to their bike.

And sir, I think I have done something when I opened the carb and cleaned it. Since I cleaned the carb, if I keep the bike idle for around 10 seconds, suddenly the bike stalls as if the its cut-off. What have I done to cause this? It would start normally without any issues after the stall. As long as I hold the throttle, it doesn't happen. This is happening only when i leave the throttle for the bike to idle.

Don't start chasing ZMAs with the Compression tester in hand..people will get scared..ha ha ha..
Regarding the stalling problem, I think you have not tightened the Choke properly on the carburetor, and it may be slightly engaged. Check and correct it.

Ha.. ha.. ha.. The owners of ZMRs around looking at me suspiciously already. They were happy to learn that I am not willing to strip the fairing to check their bikes, but still they suspect me somewhere that I would do that too one day if I am desperate. My mind will not be at peace till I find out that the gauge is correct.

This is why you are expert sir. I have been racking my brain trying to figure out how would bike stall only at idle even after I cleaned up all the pilot system. But, never thought of this choke angle as everyday morning I am using choke as usual and the results are as usual. Will check the choke fitting tomorrow.

The resale value for 2012 Hero Karizma R in Maharashtra is Rs.58,000 to Rs.65,000.
But it largely depends upon the numbers on the odo and its condition.

Anywhere between 60k to 62k would be a great bargain IMHO !
