Anyhow, after billing and getting the cash receipt I started my bike, went to petrol pump and got full tank. Went ahead and rode the bike on an open free road for some 10-15 kms and I felt the same thrill, smoothness, excitement which I had felt when I rode my bike for the first time after taking the delivery almost six years back. Karizma will celebrate its 6th Birthday on 15 feb. Let the adventure never end...Bikes will come and go but charisma of Karizma will stay forever! clap:

Clicked after service while returning home.

PS - Since I sparingly use my bike, any tips to avoid such starting problem? How to keep the bike (especially engine) in good shape with my kind of intermittent usage. From now I will, however, start my bike for 5 minutes once a week for sure to keep the battery charged.

@ Anmol...Good to see that you have resolved the problem safely.. Most roadside Mechanics are lacking in basic knowledge, while the ASC mechs at least get training on the bike... If you are not using the bike regularly, Just start and idle engine once in 3 days for 10 minutes , and follow BP, advice(mentioned in my post earlier), of filling in a little NEW petrol once in 7~10 days.

          • Starting trouble in 2004 Karizma

            Hi Guys,

Frustrated with another problem. Im in an area where there is no mechanic available for atleast 20 kms and my stalled 2004 zma is the only means of transport from here for now and now it isnt starting.
I have checked the fuel flow and it seems to be fine.
Next i guess it was the spark plug and found that plug is fine, however there is no spark from the plug adaptor or the wire to which it is attached to.
I have checked fuses(under the seat inside the fusebox and the red one on the right side of the bike near the battery) seems fine. removed and reconnected the socket to the CDI and removed and reinserted the fuses one by on after checking each of them.
The Neutral light glows and the battery seems fine and the headlight switches on horn works too.
Perplexed about what to check, Please help asap. Thanks in advance.

I rode the bike for about 45-50 kms and stopped the bike and after about 30 minutes couldn\'t start it again.

Bike had the first major fall today. My brother was returning from krishnagari completing his work. he was a hit from behind by apsrtc bus coming to chennai from tirupathi in CMBT signal yesterday morning.

My brother stopped as the signal turned red and the bus hit from behind. the bus front right side hit the bike. a couple of bikers were also injured. thank god no one were injured seriously. my bro lost balance and hit the divider on right side and left down to the left. he had a bruised shoulder and wounds and scratches on his right hand. police took 3 of the bikers to a nearby hopsital for first aid and a cop came with them to the hospital.

the bus driver said he doesn\'t have money and also as other bikers suggested, police registed case. got the bike this morning.

              damages incured:

              1. bent handle bar.
              2, broken bar weights.
              3. A deep cut in the new Michelin front tyre.
              4, dislocated front cowl
              5.. ratlling tail piece.
              6. brokem tail light

replaced handle, tail piece, bar weights are yet to be sourced. exchanged the michelin tyre for 350rs and got zapper. didn\'t wanna take risk as this bike is regulary used.

removed the front fairing and place few washers. still no go, rattles like anything. also the front feel woobles a bit around 40 to 50 kmph. the tyre guy said the alloy is bend. he said machining the alloy will not stop the wobble. he asked me to fill nitorgen air said wobble will reduce. did that and wobble is very neggilble. occures only around 45 to 55 kmph.

really issue is the front fairing is twiseted to one side. mean the inside fibre and rods got twisted. not able to allign the fairing in a straight line. some how got is fitted but still it rattles also since the fairing is twisted to one side, the weight gets shifted to one side to the right side as the bike moves.

mech suggested fiber molding. have you guys heard about fiber folding? how much the new front cowl will cost?

Replace the T cone and check forks, that will prevent the bike from going on one side
Replace the fairing and cowl, remoulding and all will not help
Use some rubber in between meters and fariing to reduce vibrations

Does anyone here have an idea as to how long the zma clutch springs usually last? My bike has run 66k and the clutch is shot. Ive not been able to get the springs since the last 3 months and its highly frustrating. I finally managed to get the clutch cover packing after 2 months.
I know i could take out the spring and measure it but im hoping someone here would be able to tell me how long the spring usually lasts. Im pretty sure 66k would mean the springs are toast!

                  Any help would be appreciated.

The disconnect from Honda had forced the HH to go in for locally made parts...From what I heard the parts of Karizma/ZMR are now locally made....so quality and longevity of spares is going to become a problem in future...

The problem with Indian bike manufacturers is that, as long as they bike is in production line, we manage to get spares but they strangle the supply of spares soon after they are decide to stop production which leaves existing owners a big question mark on their face. Though there is an obligation from the company to support the bikes with service and spares for 7 years after they close the production line, still it is very disappointing to see the way they handle void in between.

                          Update on my Red Karizma:-

                          Karizma 2004 Blazing Candy Red

Piston ring changed and have done about 400 kms till date. Coming weekend will be doing another 600+ and that I suppose will be good with the run-in. I\'m very tempted during these days to twist the throttle beyond 80kmph however, have decided to take it slow till run-in of say 1000kms.

The issue of idling /rpm fluctuation still persist, but that did not deter me from enjoying, just I have keep blipping till the engine reaches the optimum temperature. Will need to find time to look into these issues.

                          Update on White 2011 Karizma-R :-

Was facing an issue where the bike shuts down soon after a good run at signal and will refuse to start until I give some time. (This reminds me of known issue where the bike used to stall during my road trip and used to give recovery time before I could get it running.) Also I noticed there was another issue where the rpm won\'t come down as you close the throttle, but it takes couple of seconds till it reaches bottom. PSR Sir analysed the issue and found that the choke cable sleeve over the years got ruptured and water had rusted the cable and eventually broke the cable, the cable was removed completely and placed the plunger back in the carb for now. Need to plonk new cable.

Though I did not have any complain further of bike stalling today, however, the rpm fluctation issue persist. May be I will need to go one at a time. Planning to get the choke cable fixed and watch how it behaves. Need to see if there is any relevance to the issue.

Having another road trip around the corner, will keep this thread posted.

I don't think we missed checking any. Unless we going to try another carb.

Update from my recent road trip:-

                              ZMA 2004
                              Round trip 638 kms

As usual, I could not resist riding the bike after I crossed 180 kms, had to give in to my temptation seeing empty roads on NH. Acceleration was quick to reach 100 and climbed 110 effortlessly.
I enjoyed my ride through out this trip. Ceat tyre at rear gave a support and new suspensions were spot on. Need to have a crash bar for safety.
Fluctuation problem persists and that will be looked into it shortly.

Most common area for leak is the carb insulator, I faced the exact same issues mentioned in your post, went away when I changed the insulator, just get a new one, remove the old one, clean the seating area with some acetone, wipe it clean and dry, and then fix new one but after using some sealant. And that would do.

                                I will recall my experience with the same problem;
When engine is moderately hot the RPM would stick/hover when we open and close the throttle on neutral.
When engine is really hot, the bike stalls when in traffic stops, and sometimes comes to life when we thumb the starter, but would instantly die when throttle is opened. To recover completely from this issue you would have to take a break till the bike cools down.
My temporary remedy was to keep opening and closing the throttle when the bike slows down or if in traffic signal, and if bike is stalling near a downhill slope, jump start the bike with throttle open, the one thing I noticed was that if there was more than adequate suction from engine, then the bike would run.
