Hi,

Have a couple of things i would like some help on. Would appreciate any inputs on the following based on your experience:

1. Improving the headlight. Stock headlights are not good at all.
2. Rain protection. What are the parts on the bike that are susceptible to rusting/rain damage. Whats the best way to protect these.

Thanks!

Conventional h/l upgrade has been discussed threadbare in this thread. Just go through it. Nowadays led projectors are coming out. But they are too costly.
All parts that look like iron or steel is likely to attract rust. All nuts, bolts, steel colored parts etc. Dont forget the screws on the front brake oil reservoir . Any screws/nut/bolt you take out ..apply oil before putting in . Apply oil to all bolt heads n metal parts. A thin layer will suffice.

Thanks for the reply. Ive read most of the posts. However, there seem to be too many different options by various different people. Would appreciate it if someone could suggest any successful solution that has worked for most.

What would be the approx price for the LED projector upgrade. Wouldnt mind spending really if its worth it.

Thanks for the tips on preventing rust. acs1207

2 conventional options that are really VFM in the long run and successful:
a. Osram Night Breaker (Plus) 55w - 1100 rupees a pair (search hard and you can bargain/find single piece in 500-600 range)
b. Philips Xtreme Vision 55w - 1200 rupees a pair (search hard and you can bargain/find single piece in 500-600 range)

P.S - Relay isn't mandated for the above options.

New successful light mods done by BLR folk:
CREE LEDs (minus projectors) - Rs 3800. 10 watts, 2000+ lumens IIRC . Awesome lighting, but pointless without projectors. Blinds oncoming traffic.
Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.

Great!! Thanks @Divya Sharan. Have read some good reviews about the Osram Night Breaker. Is the stock reflector/sealed beam ok for this upgrade. I mean will the heat melt/warp it in any way. Are these H4 bulbs?

Are these the ones to look for

Buy Osram - Night Breaker Plus Headlight Bulbs Bulb H4 online at best price in India at Snapdeal. Shop online for Osram - Night Breaker Plus Headlight Bulbs Bulb H4 and get Free Shipping, EMI* & CoD options across India.

Yes, those ones. Direct plug and play. Snapdeal is selling them costly. Search car spare parts shops to get a better deal. I have them for two years now. No issues with the bulb or reflector.

Hi...
Always use hero oil. I tried various brand bit found stock is the balanced one.semi synthetic or synthetic oil will corrode gasket and cause leakage. I experienced when I used shell ax7.also when I switched to 10w40 my bike found bit difficult on top end. But with stock it find it easier.I own hh hunk.

There are three wires that come out of TPS and are inserted into a female socket. End to end resistance should be 5k ohms. From center to one end should vary between 0 to 5k or 5k to 0 ohms when the throttle is opened. You can see how to test these values in the following video. Observe the connectors carefully. First I checked the resistance end to end, which showed 4.75k ohms. Next I checked resistance between center and left side, which showed around 0.5k ohms with throttle closed and increased to 5k ohms when throttle is opened slowly. Next I checked resistance between center and right side in the same way and it showed 5k ohms at throttle closed, and decreased gradually to .5k ohms when throttle is opened fully. The video may not be very clear, but will give you an idea.

To check the voltage you need to connect the TPS to carb. You need to check the voltage coming out in the center wire with ignition key ON position. The voltage should vary gradually and smoothly between 0.5 volts to 4.5 volts with throttle opening.

First make sure everything else other than engine is alright.

Also, when you mean 4.5 turns of AFR screw do you mean full turns or half turns? It should be a full turn. 3.5 full turns is an optimum level.
We know Throttle position sensor's role in fuel injected engines. I would like to know, What is the use of TPS in a carbureted vehicle and what is its role in fuel delivery and how it affects vehicle performance in its absence?

AFAIK In this case it is to vary ignition timing...not fuel delivery

TPS here is used to switch between various ignition maps (which are on the cdi unit), without the tps (or one which isnt working) you would face performance issues, but as such it wont harm the bike. the cdi will be on the default map so the intended optimal performance is not delivered.
This is my understanding based on reading some manuals... somebody correct me if i am wrong.
How to reset or 'tune' the tps was mentioned in the unicorns workshop manual i think... it goes something like: ignition on, half throttle..hold for few seconds.. then full throttle, hold for few seconds, close throttle, shut off ignition (well something like this.. can't remember it off the top of my head, could be different for the zma)

I dont think the tps in zma can be tuned without hardware replacement.

From the step explained in Karizma/Karizma R - Page 1586 by ravi@17bhp apparently TPS in this case uses a potentiometer(Potentiometer - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia).

As a surprise GS150R TPS's resistance readings fall in the same range : 0 to 5k Ω .

All TPS (on our desi carb bikes) use a pot .. how it is tuned/setup might vary from bike to bike but basic principle is the same.
