My zmar has developed a new problem. Whenever I go to above 4500 rpm for some time the engine struggles after that and I have to use the choke for some time. After using the choke for 5 to 10 seconds it will run without choke again.
Two probabilities ... the air hole in the petrol tank lid is clogged or the carb is clogged.
      Suggestions please.

Sir..it is revving freely.. I went up to 8k yesterday. But after that it gasps for some time...like being starved of fuel.

Anyway I am off to my mech and will check it out as well.

AFAIK chain guard needs to be altered only for profiles larger than 110. I had the same tire last year and it never touched the guard. I however did bend the link rod a bit.

            • Poor product and service quality and non co-operative staff

My cousin purchased a yellow karizma R 2014 model a month ago. I use the motorcycle too. The first problem that i face is that, the engine does not start every time I leave the bike for 2-3 hours. eve if the bike starts after choke, the engine dies of. On the very first day, I had to drag the bike for 3-4 kilometres in heavy rains. I tried kick-starting the bike for almost 45-50 mins, tried starting after giving a pause; but the engine refused to start.
Another problem that I am facing is about the non-accuracy of the gears. I am not able to put the bike in neutral gear for almost 2 weeks. even when I stopped at the signal, the gear change did not happen. I also tried explaining my problem to the executive to sold me that bike, but he was least bothered about a customers query as he was busy playing Subway Surfer on his phone and did not even have the basic courtesy to look at a person when he is explaining the problem.
The fuel economy of the bike is also a major issue I m facing and it is making a huge hole in my pocket as the fuel economy of the bike is 23-24 in real life conditions, while the showroom executive had promised me about 45. I seriously did not believe him because many of my friends and 2 cousins own both Karizma ZMR as well as Karizma R and they are getting fuel economy between 38-39. When I explained my problem to the head engineer of Singh motors, he told me that these bikes are not for fuel economy.
The technicians at the service centre straight away say that such a problem can never happen. I tried keeping the motorcycle at the showroom for a day for about 2-3 times but everytime the technician used to start the bike, he used to accelerate the bike above 6*1000 RPM and make the engine warm and tell us to restart the bike. I am really helpless. Needed serious help from fellow bikers and senior XBhpians.

May be a vapor lock. Open the petrol lid and leave it open for 5-10 seconds then try if it starts.

Karizma R is a carbed bike... cold start issue is very common... you need to give your engine some time to get it warm... use choke for morning start.. regarding the mileage ;; is your first servicing done ?? if not then get the first service done.. change the engine oil .. then check the mileage .... also dont run your bike in reserve oil more than 15km.. as soon as you hit the reserve mode ... try to fill in the fuel.. else you might have airlock situation... engine wont start .. will get stalled in middle of the road...

Last weekend I rook my bike to the mech. I had a damaged zma carb with me . Asked him to interchange the jets and slide. The slide in the damaged carb wasnt good so ended up changing just the jets. Also I changed the cdi unit with the one from my 'scrap' zma. The afr remained at 3 turns out.
Anyway the bike is not dieing on me now though the need for choke ir there if the engine is cold. Power seems to have gone down a teeny weeny bit...
Normally I dont change more than one thing at a time. Now with the change in jets and cdi I dont know which one changed the behaviour in the engine. Anyway I am keeping them untouched foe the present. Have to check the mileage too. Earlier I was getting below 30 in stop..go town traffic. Today I am off to a 140 km ride. Let me see what I will get today.

Arun Sir, the CDI in ZMA had never been reported with any defects so far. ...but the carburetor has a few quirky problems ie., slide getting stuck, idle Air Jet getting blocked , idle jet block etc.,. So hopefully it is the carb jets which might have caused your problem...Since you are doing a 140 Kms ride , you will get to know if the problem is solved for good or not....keeping fingers crossed..
                      Good Luck..

Anyone noticed this before? If i remember correctly i saw this issue last monsoon and i doubt if it has to do anything between moisture and electronics.
After starting the bike and riding on for some time the display becomes good. Only the clock is reset to some other time

                            Dear all,

I would like to share my 5 months experience with my Karizma R which was bought on 12th March 2014. It is a little big story, I believe you won't be bored of it. Before i start I would like to thank PSR sir for referring me to Ravi@17bhp (Ravi). Thanks a million to Mr. Ravi for his support and help with great interest and passion.

Here are the problems I faced with my zma and workshop people of Phoenix Hero, Madhapur, Hyderabad (I bought my zma here and 1st, 2nd services are done here)

Everything was very good before giving my vehicle to 1st service. After 1st service the problems I am facing are:
 Engine vibrations, engine sound and silencer beating has changed. These issues started from the very next moment I took the vehicle from the workshop after 1st service.
 Engine vibrates a lot after 1 kilometre ride and felt to be very difficult to ride further long.
 I believed after 2nd service everything will be fine and normal. But all these problems remind same even after 2nd service.
 I went to Phoenix, madhapur and explained the situation to them and complained that the vehicle is not running smooth. I left my vehicle for a day but the result was zero. They insisted me to sign on the job sheet even though I said I will check the vehicle for 2 days and sign. I am sorry to say this but, basically they argue a lot.
 Later I took my vehicle to Bhanu motors Kukatpally Y junction and asked them to rectify the problem. They did some work but the result was not up to the mark. They informed me that the silencer muffler was gone and a new silencer need to be replaced.
 After so much of hassle, requests and complaints with Phoenix Motors they finally agreed to replace my silencer. They said they ordered 2 silencers one is for me among those. But on the day of replacement they said that silencer is not for me and it is for somebody else. As I couldn’t able to please them anymore I asked them if I pay money for that silencer will you replace it for me now.. They replied YES. I paid INR 7300/- for silencer and they said the amount will be refunded after 10 days. They said these silencers are not entered in the books of company because of tax issues, as they got it from Kakinada.
 At the time of replacing the silencer, the mechanic pumped used engine oil into the new silencer. I checked with other Hero workshops of Venkateshwara Motors Narayanaguda, Bhanu Motors Erragadda and Kukatpally, Phoenix Hubsiguda and Lakshmi motors Somajiguda. All these workshop people said it will affect the catalyst converter so no one must pump oil into the silencer.
 The new problem aroused again, when the mechanic took me for test ride after assembling the silencer, the vehicle is JERKING like no fuel in the tank. Mechanic asked me to ride the vehicle in the same condition for 1 week and if the problem doesn’t rectify he asked me to bring the vehicle again. But I am not able to ride the vehicle in that condition because vehicle use to stop and doesn’t start.
 As I am already fed up with the behaviour and work of madhapur branch I decided to give my vehicle at Bhanu Motors Kukatpally, I gave my vehicle there to resolve the issue. I explained them about oil in the silencer. They said it is wrong and it will affect the silencer. They tried for 3 days to sort out that Jerking problem. They said they replacing the parts from other vehicles for finding out the problem and on the third day they found that the mechanic of Phoenix madhapur inserted a screw in the Valve Assembly air injection section (Product code: 18600 KRY 901). The jerking problem is resolved up to 60 % but 40 % of the problem still persist.
 I complained to the zonal complaints office by explaining all the incidents happened and I received a call from Phoenix, madhapur to bring the vehicle.
 Service Manager and mechanic argued with me when I asked about the screw and oil pumped in to the silencer. I asked that mechanic not to do any modifications and do the work according to the company standards and procedures. He replied company procedures are not correct and bikes won’t run properly if we follow company policy. I am not convinced at all with that answer.
 However, Next day I took a loss of pay leave from my work and went to Phoenix madhapur. The mechanic did something with the carburettor and the problem is resolved. I felt happy and signed the job sheet. They said Silencer money will be refunded within a week time. I said okay and I am still waiting for the refund.
 But again a new problems aroused, that is Misfiring sound from silencer when we raise and release the accelerator. Apart from that, Low mileage is another problem.

Combining all the above, recently rectified issues are:

Installation of New Clutch plates. At Phoenix nagole they said they found some particles in the engine oil and decided to check clutch plates. When they opened it they found clutch plates got worn out and even the steel plate (I don’t know what exactly it is) is with some scratches. They did not replaced the steel plate but they replaced clutch plates where i had to pay 2500/- for new engine oil and clutch plates and other miscellaneous parts. Vehicle found to be smooth and good but I still found little bit of vibrating.

I met Mr. Ravi yesterday and he test drove the vehicle and adjusted the AFR to optimal setting initially it was too lean, than the vehicle found to be less vibrating and smooth. Thanks for the help Mr. Ravi.
I still feel a little bit of vibration which I hope will be vanish away after doing couple of hundred’s of kms. (Correct me if I am wrong).
Now, I am trying to get my silencer to be replaced once again along with Valve assembly air section (pollution section). Hope that Misfiring will go away and my vehicle will be much more smoother I believe..

This is what happening with my Zma guys..! What do you think..??
