Sriram what you said is really true. Great contribution from all the members. Senior members shared their experiences with their ZMA's and solutions for problems. so it is a path for newbies like me to learn a lot. I met Ravi personally and I am very happy for that. Even now and then I always call him and ask too much of questions but he replies vth great patience, I am very thankful to him.
Now, I am very confident that even If I mess with my zma, I got a strong backup to guide me just being funny... But it's true..

Once again I heart fully thank you all.

Mr.Sriram...you are generous with your appreciation of me....It is true that when I entered the Karizma thread it was not active and many doubts still remained in the minds of owners...slowly I started to learn on my ZMA and started solving the small problems, while understanding the bike's absolute reliability..It was a joy for me to share what ever I learned and be useful .
The most remarkable learner here had been Ravi Anna, who went to the extent of opening the Engine, and learned many things which he had been openly sharing with all of us...he is pious and without any airs on his knowledge...he had made my and many member's life easy by being upfront helping members all the time.
I have not seen any thread , with so much technical share , and good well meaning members helping out each others....Happy to be a part of it.

Psr sir and Ravi. I am planning to take a long ride. I will start tomorrow from Hyderabad to Srisailam to nagarjuna sagar to Hyderabad. Covering up 600 kms all together on my zma. I never did this before on my zma. Actually didn't get a chance. I did 500 kms 2 stop drive on my cbz 2003 model in 5:15 hours in the year 2008. That's from hyd to kakinada thrice. Never felt much tired even though it was a 2 stop drive. In 2012 on pulsar 180 I did 470kms drive from Hyderabad to rajahmundry, believe me I had to stop for every 50 kms and felt very tired.

Now I want to do this 600 kms drive (it's a break journey not continues drive). So I wanna see how it Wil be on my zma that did 5600 on ODO so far and it's engine is not familiar with this type of drive earlier.

As Ravi said the engine will completely open only in long drives at high speeds and even ride becomes smooth... I wanna check it out on my own now.

Attention: Do I need to check anything with my bike before I start..? As it is near to its third service.. Please guide me.

          • Suresh:

Check your brakes, cables and Tyre condition. The engine oil check is must.
Carry a spare spark plug just in case. If you're running on tubbed, carrying a spare tube would a good option but I leave it to you.
Try not to over stress the engine but gradually she will live up to your expectations so put on the tourer cap and remove the racing instead.

Always do a pre-check, cables, air pressure, oil level, lights (sidelight, headlamp) before setting out on any journey. Check oil - if more than 1500 kms have passed, replace it with Shell AX7. Some of us have had good experience with Rimula R4 as well.
It is not wise to do long distances at a stretch (might be others disagree with me). I have formed a habit of stopping every hour or 100 kms, depending on the road and mood. These small breaks help one in staying focussed and maintaining concentration along a journey.
600 kms on your ZMA should be a breeze, it'll easily do that distance without any hiccups. Remember to keep the fuel petcock on the "ON" position so that you don't run into any unpleasant 'out of fuel' situations on the highway.

Edit: Looks like Sriram also posted at the same time. Notice how we stress on the same things? Tyre, Engine Oil, Cables. These might seem trivial, but when travelling, they are of utmost importance.

Dear Sriram and AK3D, thanks a lot for your suggestions. I will check all the things you mentioned. I will try to carry extra tube. Now I have to go out and buy helmet first. Even Ravi warned me to take safety precautions. Thanks a lot for all. I will keep u update.

AK3D, tourers will always try focusing on small things which are overlooked by amateurs. This is how we ended up learning? Aren't we? [emoji4]

I'm sure Suresh will gives all a feedback from his trip. One other advice is always keep checking your rear view mirrors, in my experience, high flyers don't always gives us a hint. We end up smashed with cross winds as these vehicles paasby and even put us in a adrenaline rush if not aware. Trust me, initial days of touring have faced these. Sometimes scary.

Aamir sir and Sriram sir have already given inputs for a safe journey. I'd just add 4 points:
                    1. If travelling at night, carry a small torch.
                    2. Do the air pressure check/refill on a cold tire only. Otherwise, the actual psi would be a lot less than what you filled.
                    3. Carry all relevant documents - RC, DL, insurance, PUC.
                    4. Most importantly, wear safety gear.
                    All the best!
                    Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.

                      Oil... chain lubrication... brake chk...
                      Keep spares of
                      Acc cable
                      Clutch cable
                      Spark plug
                      H/L bulb
                      Fuses (various ratings)

                      Tools
                      Safety gear
                      Torch
                      Waste cotton cloth

Apart from these I have with me always an LED ( the type that can be used for parking lights ... cost me 50/- for a LED) connected to a 2 meter wire with crocodile clips at the other end. With that I am never without light since I can tap power from the battery if needed.

A good helmet is a must when on the highway. A jacket, pair of gloves and knee guards are necessary as well. Do as your budget permits, but don't skimp on these things, your skin is precious.

Yes Sriram, and we keep learning. I'm noting down some other things I noticed in this post. That's a superb point I missed, about checking the rear views once a while. There have been so many occasions I've seen heavy vehicles bearing down fast, spotted easily enough with the RVM, and space given to them to overtake. After doing it a few times, it become second nature to glance at the mirrors for an instant. Thankfully, with the ZMA being a comparatively heavy bike, it is stable on the highway. Once you get used to it, you know how to control the vehicle when something heavy passes by.
Highway cross winds are amazing, if you're not in control/aware, you could well go off the road. First time on the highway with strong winds, it felt like a hand picked me (and the bike) up and put me and my bike to the far right of the road. I was doing about 75ish at the time, and slowed down to the low 50's to keep the bike in control.

There are many many other things, but experience learned practically only adds to the list. I learned (from you) that if one dog pops out on the highway, you can almost be sure that its partner would be looking for a chance to cross as well!

That's a new one for me acs, it's totally worth doing that.

                        Other random notes :
I also found out that if you see a goat (insert your animal here) grazing on the side, it's better to slow down as they tend to jump out on the highway followed by a few of their folk.
I have also seen people (drunk and not driving) weaving out on the highways unsteadily.
Another thing to be very careful of is vehicles parked on the side. The occupants have a tendency to open the door without checking if there's a vehicle approaching. This is also the case in the city.
New riders tend to ride on the extreme left of the highway - it's risky, you should stick to the left of the middle of the road if there's no separating divider. As shared above, there are many things that can happen.
Always scan the road ahead for any differences in colour. A darker patch might indicate a pothole or an oil patch, and noticing it a few seconds earlier is always good for the rider.
I found out (the hard way) that a distant straight line on the road speedily turns out to be a rather large bump that announces the beginning of a village (or is there on the highway without any purpose).
Above all, ride at a speed you're comfortable at, you are riding for the pleasure of the ride, not to indulge in a reckless race with anyone. You will often encounter people who want to race with you, and will even egg you on, but never indulge them, it's your own neck on the line.
Keep some phone numbers handy, people you can call on to help if you're stuck somewhere.
Best of all, enjoy the ride!

zem mpfi air filter lets more air in than oe filter. Specs apart ..it supplies air to a 1 L engine.. psr sir is the right person to answer your query ..itz his idea. I think you will get better response across the rev range.
