First, I would like to Congratulate all the new ZMA owners (be it brand new, pre-worshipped) and welcome to the ZMA club (I know you folks must have already been settled down here thanks to PSR sir, Sriram, Ravi, Ashwin & many more long time runners on the ZMA).

My silver falcon has completed 50k kms on the odo just last week and touchwood it is going strong. Currently running on following setup:
1. Shell Ultra FS oil 10w40 & the bike just loves it .
2. 9amp amaron sealed battery
3. NGK G-power plug
4. 55/60w Philips extreme main bean using a relay
5. Roots dual horn using a relay
6. 1 35w Hid in a Hella 550 lamp(provision to attach another also )
7. Front 80/100/80 ZMR tubeless tyre
8. Rear 100/90/18 Sirac street (due replacement in coming months)
9. Removed Accelerator cable B (it had snapped & the svc did not have it, plus now the throttle has become quite revv friendly)

Ohh yeah, just forgot about the Million $$ question of Kitna deti hai!!. In the city it gives 39-40kmpl with a sane riding & shifting at 3.5-4k rpm. On the highways it returns 40-42kmpl with a speed of 80-90kmph on the odo.

Happy riding all!!.

Vishal
Today I too installed 6000k HID in stock reflector, got it from home shop18 with 6 months warranty @ 1200/- , but I am not happy with illumination on road. Also hi low beam switch exchanged. Now when I press low beam switch, HID beam goes up and vice versa.

I too have installed ZMR front and rear tubeless tyres with metal valve body, because rubber type do not fix in tube type rims hole. Is it so?

Completed 15000 kms in one year included 6000 kms of hard core tours. Faced minor issues like air filter fault, gear box oil seal broke, missing, speedo cable snatched, missing issue but all sorted out except finding neutral when downshifting fast from 4th or 5th gear, gear lever used to stuck sometime after 3rd gear, I have to release the clutch little bit again to downshift further for each shifts.

Mine giving mielage of 40 in city. I kept bottle of 1lt petrol with me, during a ride when bike came in reserve immediately I poured 1 lt of petrol and my steed did 40 km before comming in reserve in mixed riding conditions.

Top speed I achieved is 122 km/hr on speedo.

Last 2 oil change was motul 20w40 mineral but this time I shifted to shell Ax7, though no difference I felt in engine smoothness and gear shift feel.

Thanks

For the sake of oncoming motorists, plonk in a projector as well. FYI, 6K is illegal for our roads.

Thats true...Saw lot of people irritated due to beam of my HID..I will remove it asap as it is illegal also. Just wanted to get the feel of HID but no extra difference in illumination on road...so useless for me.

HID`s work best when installed in a projector as the normal headlamp is designed to use with a halogen & hence not much of a difference was noted with the change. HID in a regular headlamp will give you scattered lighting. Also 4300k HID is best suited for our Indian roads.

The best way to check mileage is tank full to empty to tank full method.

Thanks for your reply Sir. When asked the opinion of a local bike electrician he said that, the rectifier might be a problem since it is taking additional load of the higher watt headlamp. In the last 2.5 years of ownership (after plonking extreme vision, 9amps and changing all signal lamps to 10Watts) this is the first time faced such an issue. Even the fellow who charged my battery too commented that the battery is good. Would appreciate an explanation here!

The battery develops a higher internal resistance due to Sulphation. When this happens the battery voltage will show 12 Volts at rest after a ride( should be 12.6) and on starting it will reach 14+ Volts. if you continue with the battery , after some time the battery at rest will start showing less than 12 volts, and eventually fail...
A bike which is parked often for a week or more, will develop this problem quickly.
To test a Karizma if battery or RR unit is at fault, Remove Battery connection, and start the bike..if bike starts, and runs, and headlight works with slight flickering, then your generator and RR unit are Good.....If not suspect the RR first ,and then the windings ......

Today plonked a projector setup...got it @ 2300 INR.

Tested projector just now in dark. Illumination is excellent both on low/high beam. I think projector is not properly tightened in reflecter because beam is moving little bit left right on little rough road. Will post pic after Diwali pooja.

There are two observations.
1) Looking at the car on the right of the road, the illumination seems to be similar between both high/low. I can see that the high beam illuminates more of the road from the bump onwards, but not too much.
2) The beam on high is clearly illuminating the tree before the car. It means that it will be terrible for oncoming traffic, just looking at this glare.

I would suggest that anyone thinking of using HIDs should only use an HID (projector setup) with a cut off like this

Good HIDs aren't cheap, however, but if you ARE going to have an HID setup, only use something that does not blind the oncoming traffic. It's the responsible thing to do.

Hey guys i'm new to xbhp and new to bike riding in general. Just last month i bought the 2014 karizma r.
I have a few queries i'd like to ask you guys. I'm new to this so please bear with me.
1. I'm currently getting a mileage of 19-20 kmpl where as it was said i would be receiving 35. Will the mileage improve after the first service or is there something wrong with my bike.
2. Can you suggest any modifications i might make to the bike?
3. When i ride the bike for the first time in the day, the ride at the 2nd gear is not smooth there are a few jerks. Once i hit 3rd gear/ the engine becomes hot the ride is smooth again,is this normal or should i get it checked.
4. Any general tips for gear shifting in non-highway areas.
Any help would be really appreciated guys.

Observe running in period etiquette. If company doesnt specify please refrain from raising engine speed above 4k rpm(?) till about 1000km.
Mileage quoted is low by any standards. At what engine speeds do you change gears ?
Get the engine run in before going for any mods..also think about voiding warrenty before making any changes.

Whatz the battery rating ?
Is h/l 35 watts or 55 watts?

Liked the cosmetic upgrades. Lovely paint quality (in pics, would have loved to drop by to see the bike in flesh had I been in/near MUM). Can you provide dyno graphs/details to substantiate the claim of ~2.5 hp increase over stock?
