Re: Karizma/Karizma R Ownership Experience
Hi guys... I am trying to fit in after mebbe 3 years. My job posting made sure that I had no time for my bike. It is in a pathetic situation now. I did a general service last week and it is ride-able, thats all. For now I am letting it go like that... have to get my RX in running condition first. Only then will I lay a spanner on the ZMA. I have a doubt, since I am now back to a novice. Are the spare parts ( including body kits) available as earlier ? ( Confident cause a friend told me if I need anything just ask... but still ) . One main mod I would like to do is to the headlight. I would like toget rid of the fairing, but retain its 'independent from handle' aspect. Is there some way it can be done ?

Vineeth has done the Boric Acid treatment ?Originally posted by ashwinprakas View PostYeah IIRC I remember him mentioning sluggishness when cold. I might go for Castrol FS one with the Golden Bottle not sure about its name, It costs around 500/- here. I believe since its FS fake wont be available. I dont know if it makes any difference but Vineeth bro using the Borric Treatment as well.sigpic

Re: karizma r Engine Rebore Cost? and Where spare parts will available at cheap rate
It was 3300/- when I inquired a week back. Not at the ASC though . Also I forgot to ask about the make of the piston.Originally posted by psr View PostDO NOT go for REBORE...better to buy standard OE bore along with Piston set , plus packing set and get it replaced...Best to get it done at The Authorised Service Center since the work will have some Guarantee on parts and workmanship...If you do it outside, then it is as good as throwing your money in dust bin....unless you have a reliable Mechanic you can trust..
The bore+piston kit will cost you approximately 4K packing kit another 500/-~600/-..These are prices from 2015..I don't know present pricing. Labour for the work will be 800~1K...any other part like oil seals etc., will be extra.
Always get the work done with ASC to get warranty on parts and Labour..and they will have necessary tools to do the job correctly.
Good Luck.sigpic

Neutral light blinking on my Karizma R
Hello guys....
This is Mustafa ,newly joined xBHPian.
I ride my Karizma R (serviced regularly)
I need a help from you guys that whenever at the time of gearshifting i press the clutch, the neutral light blinks in my bike, and when released it goes off again unless in neutral gear.
I approached to a service mechanic guy and he replaced the clutch switch but the problem is the same again.
It has gone upto months trying to fix it .
Please help me by increasing my knowledge.

I am using Osram night vision in my Honda CB Unicorn .... It is awesome ... But one problem .... It doesn't work in fogOriginally posted by ravi@17bhp View PostOsram nightbreaker is tooooo good for a Karizma. One of our xbhp member from Hyderbad is using it, but cost a bomb. You get only in pairs, and a pair costs around 1600.
Currently I am using Osram SilverStar, which is reasonably good. Philips visionplus is also as good as Osram Silverstar. Somebody even reported (vaas2000) VisionPlus is far better than SilverStar.
If you switch on the headlight without the engine running, the battery drains very fast. You know how, in the last one year, the battery prices have double almost.

I will inquire in detail. Gimme 3 or 4 days. I am from Kannur, Kerala. BTW, Ashwin, what is the rate there ?Originally posted by LOKESH2423 View PostBrother where I can get it.. Please tell me. Can you please give me your number and where are you from

Recently one of the tail light bulbs failed and I changed both of them. The SC put in 5/21w ( OE ) bulbs despite my instruction to use 5/10w bulbs. After a couple of days I started getting low battery warning ( starter not working, only one horn working). I changed my riding pattern ( less use of brakes at traffic lights and road blocks) n confirmed it really is the battery. Today I bought a couple of 5/10w bulbs and an LED bulb. But the LED doesn't work as it should. It has only one level of brightness. If the park/HL is on the brightness doesn't change if I apply the brakes. I am thinking about using it in one socket and a 5/10w bulb in the other socket.
BTW, you should know that I am using a 9 AH battery and 55/60w HL.

Re: Karizma/Karizma R Ownership Experience
Hello there folks,
I have been wanting to pen down my experience of owning a Karizma R. So here it goes.
Ever since i got fed up of spending too much moolah on the RTR Fi i had, i was on the look out for an apt upgrade. It had to be higher cc and more powerful. Yes, there were couple of dream bikes in mind but being restricted by financial constraints i had to settle for something which would serve the purpose.
Going back a couple of months from July 2015, i still had the rtr (now converted into carburetted and 180cc) i had a chance to ride couple of bikes namely Duke 200, Classic 350, Karizma R and Ns 200. With 50000 Inr as the maximum amount i could spend (note i didn't wanna take a loan or go under more financial strain) i decided on the Karizma R. The other bikes mentioned were not something up to my taste. With Karizma it was more sort of made for me types. So ended up buying a 2011 White Karizma r for around rs 55000. A little over my budget but the bike was the smoothest and best one among the ones i took for a test ride.
Coming to the experience over the last 2 years of riding.
Engine and Performance:
Since this was one of the key factors while purchasing i had to make sure it was well taken care of. Riding this engine is a pure pleasure. It is anything unlike the RTR i had. Rtr was madness and fun but this was more mature and tame. You couldn't just wring the throttle, lean as you would wish or just throw the bike around anywhere. It requires a calm resonance and a mature rider to handle it well.
The first month i fell dowm from the bike 3 times. I began wondering if this was a wise choice ever. Eventually i adapted my riding style to match off with the performance of the bike. That meant i had to undo my riding style which was hard accleration, late braking and leaning too much at the corners.
The engine delivers power in a very linear way. It was just about perfect for me. Enough grunt when needed and runs without any stress. The engine is happy to be revving around 4000-6000 rpm which i believe is just about what you need on Indian roads. I must admit it is not the most refined engine but it is smooth if you can get hold of the right engine oil to match its characteristics. I found for the plains, the Rimula series work the best on this bike.
The performance is something i am proud about. The bike travels like an arrow on the highways. Just point it and it goes straight in that direction. It is so stable and comforting and relaxed. The bikes likes to cruise at 90 kph all day long without getting heated up much. This air cooled 223 cc mill is so simplistic in nature that it has no other bullshit attached to it. You will either love it in time or just hate it. With time i have begun to love this engine. Simply put it is a classic and also me with age have begun to love the simple and classic machines. Modern machines dont attract me much these days. Another good thing is, not much technology in this machine makes it more user friendly.
Styling:
Aesthetically its a good looking machine. It doesn't look outdated at least by looks in my honest opinion. Initially the handle bars not attached to the headlamp assembly can be a little turn off, but you will grow into it. The instrument cluster (speedo and rpm meter) is the old school analog ones which is a bliss for me with a touch of digital odometer and fuel indicator. This is just about right for me. The body panels give a little aerodynamic styling to it with decent graphical stickers. I can get into details here about each and every part but would stop here and generalise. The quality of parts used is fine. It is not top notch but at the same time it is not of cheap quality as well. So overall its not an eye sore. For me its elegant and has a look of purpose behind than just show off.
Braking and Handling:
The handling of the bike is something i would harp about anyday. It oozes confidence in the rider. The chassis is so stable that it feels planted on the road. It feels like a boat on the road. The front end being on the lighter side helps with handling but you wish it was a little more heavy just to give you that 100% confidence. Nevertheless i am happy with whatever it has to offer. Panic braking is not a concern. But yes, do not lean the bike on gravel or brake during corners.
Braking is good enough as the bike's chassis itself helps the braking factor. The front brakes have good bite. Dont expect it to have the performance of R15 or Rtr or even the duke. The brakes feel like its not sufficient, but trust me it gets you stopped in time. Again, get used to the bike first is all i would advice. The rear brake for is just to control the bike. The brake shoes do give away soon (maybe because of the weight of the bike). In the last 2 years i think i have changed the at least 4 brake pads while the front disc pads are still running on stock ones which came from factory at 40000 kms om the odo.
Suspension and Gearing:
While the suspension is on the softer side with stock setting, even with the hardest setting i do not like it much. Probably this is the only thing i do not appreciate on the bike. Maybe i am used to the better suspension on my Rtr that i feel this. Or more likely a replacement with Zmr's rear gas filled shock absorbers might just do the trick. Just because i do not like it doesnt mean it's bad. It does its job well but there is always room for improvement. You know what i mean!!!
Like most bikes, the first 2 gears are on the shorter side and the remaining 3 are long. The bike asks for gear change in the first and second gear as soon as about 5000 rpm which is not bad but it leaves you with oodles of torque for the next three gears. The engine cuts off at about 8000 rpm which i beleive is deliberate. At about 8000 rpm at top gear this bike does about 130-135kph on the speedo. So i am assuming without the engine cut off this bike is capable of doing greater speeds which might give other 250-300 cc bikes a run for its money. Anyway i am not a guy for top speeds (once i was) these days. I am happy cruising around between 4000-6000 rpm.
Tires:
The stock setup of 2.75-18 at front and 100/90-18 at rear makes you believe its too thin or maybe the bike deserved much better broader tires. But trust me, i can understand why this has been designed this way. This is the best and optimal setting in my opinion. You dont need those bulky tires giving you extra grip. I will tell you why. I recently changed the rear tire after 39000 kms on odo. It was running on stock zapper y. Now i have installed the masseter x from mrf of same specifications. I didnt find any much difference in grip levels to be frank. The lean angles are the same and the grip generated also is the same. The only difference i felt was masseter is more easier to lean with because of rounder profile. The chassis makes the bike so stable that it nullifies any other effect. In simple words the rider would not feel a difference (at least according to me). The only complaint i would have with is sourcing a good 18 inch front tires for the bike. Not much choice with 18 inch front tires in India.
Pros and Cons:
Let me start with the pros -
1) Good for touring whether be it hills or plains or even with pillion.
2) long wheelbase helps with better stability and good torque even at high rpms.
3) easy handler and easy on pocket also if maintained well.
4) they say it has a 15 litre tank, but it can accommodate close to 17 litres. So a blessing in disguise i believe.
5) it's simple and not so complicated.
6) its just about perfect for Indian roads.
Now coming to the cons. I might just be nitpicking here:
1) mileage could have been better
2) better rear suspension
3) spare parts are costly and difficult to source
4) the fibre panels tend to break easily. So be careful not to ride harshly on bumpy roads.
Overall its a good package. It might not be the best in any of the segments. There are competitions which might beat it black and blue. But this bike reminds me of the bot from the movie "Real Steel". It will give you a run for its money.
And its a bike you will fall in love with over a period of time. Its never gonna be instant love.
For me this bike has opened up my mind ever more. From being a fan boy to appreciate and treat every machine with respect, with being closed from heart to a much more evolved person this bike has definitely left an impact on me. Most of my words might be prejudiced but i cant help it with all honesty. This will remain with me for as long as i can live. Letting go is a problem now!!!Everybody has their own version of TRUTH!!!!!!

Re: Karizma/Karizma R Ownership Experience
I've purchased a used karizma recently and been searching for correct tyre pressure (On and offline). Surprisingly I couldn't find a satisfactory answer...even a mechanic from authorised service centre gave me wrong value...kept on searching..untill now... got this from one old vehicle parked on the road

It was always 29 (F) and 33 (R). Didn't your swingarm have this sticker? Your manual should also have this info.Originally posted by IntoOblivion View PostI've purchased a used karizma recently and been searching for correct tyre pressure (On and offline).
