Airfuel tune for an aftermarket airfilter on zma!
Hello there xbhpians, I'm planning on replacing the stock airfilter on my ZMA to an after market free flow airfilter (BMC or K and N )! I've heard that tuning the carb is a must if you change your airfilter to free flow airfilters! I'm kinda confused, as of now my ZMA is running on 3.5 rotations anti clockwise from full tight! Any suggestions on the tune ratio after fitting in the free flow's? I'd be happy to accept suggestions on airfilters too!
Thank you [emoji5]

Re: Karizma/Karizma R Ownership Experience
Hi Guys, need your expert opinion on rear shocks:
My Karizma R has done close to 37,000 km out which approx 18,000 km has come via long-distance touring with ViaTerra saddle bag and saddle stay at the rear.
From last few weeks, I am experiencing severe lower back pain during my 20 km one side office commute. I feel each and every pothole on the road.
I checked the shock settings (see images below) and I believe that it is at the softest setting (They have been on this setting since day 1). Not sure what my options are besides replacing them.
Also, I believe going forward I will have to make the shocks firmer when I travel with saddle bag during long tours. Is my understanding correct?Last edited by rushikesh.ware; 05-25-2018, 11:43 AM.Rushikesh

Re: Airfuel tune for an aftermarket airfilter on zma!
The stock air filter is the best..K&N will allow more air along with more dust which will kill your Carburetor , and engine. Tuning a CV carburetor is an art and not many will be able to get the correct AFR ratio through the RPM range...so stay away from it...Originally posted by Lone7raveller View PostHello there xbhpians, I'm planning on replacing the stock airfilter on my ZMA to an after market free flow airfilter (BMC or K and N )! The shock setting will depend on the load at the rear..If you have more than 60 Kgs of load at rear, apart from rider, then set it one notch higher from lowest setting..otherwise the present setting will give you the best cushioned ride. Regarding the back pain , check your swing arm Lubrication..if it becomes sticky the up and down movement of the rear wheel will be affected.Get the swing arm opened and inspected for rusting and lubrication..at close to 37 K Kms I am sure the lubrication had dried, and needs to be greased liberally.Originally posted by rushikesh.ware View PostHi Guys, need your expert opinion on rear shocks:

Thank you for your valuable inputs as always.
For the rear shocks issue I had, I replaced the old ones with ZMR's gas filled ones (Thank you Lohit Kotapati for all the details!).
As usual the ASC didn't have them in stock. TheSparesCompany.in provided an excellent service and since I stay in the same city, they delivered it the same day.
While replacing, I kept the old and new side by side and observed that the old one had some deformation (bend).
I am going keep a check for a month and then will arrive at a conclusion on the comfort of these gas-filled ones.
I am going certainly bump up the stiffness during touring with the saddle bag.
On swing arm lubrication, had got it done at 30k km. The bushes had broken inside and the ASC had a tough time removing the old ones.
Also, I would take this opportunity to know more about you. Many of us have seen your valuable replies in Karizma as well as CBR group.
If you can let us know what bikes you currently own (and had own before) and what is your profession!
Thank you once again!Rushikesh

Re: Karizma/Karizma R Ownership Experience
Sir this sound reduces while pressing the clutch on idle,Originally posted by psr View PostThe idle is extremely low and the sound may be due to connecting rod big end bearing...that said does the sound increase while riding ?..esp., when you down shift ? if yes then conrod big end bearing...if the sound is consistent even while normal riding and also while down shifting then suspect crank bearing. but for the crank bearing to develop this it must have run without oil..My suspicion is on the conrod big end bearing .
Good Luck.
Every mechanic at my place is saying for a complete overhual.(maybe they want to make money)
Any valuable input that why that thad thad sound reduces on pressing the clutch lever.

Re: Karizma/Karizma R Ownership Experience
Well I think the sound is associated with valve clearance of both the valves! ( Exhaust and intake) there must be gap in between these two valves and when the engine heats up the metal expands thus reducing the sound, although do give a check on the tension of the timing chain as well!Originally posted by Om1234 View PostNo sir,the sound reduces while riding.
Will it require complete overhual to fix?

The bend in the rear shocks will definitely affect the rise and damping factor..good that you have changed it..I presently own a Karizma and regarding the bikes I had owned the list is long..from vespa, fantabulus to Honda MVX250 etc.. When you disengage the clutch the engine is de-couped from the running gears load and so engine has less load, which may account for the reduction...Otherwise Cluctch bell bearing wear out is a possibility..Originally posted by Om1234 View PostSir this sound reduces while pressing the clutch on idle,

Help with HH karizma PS carb tuning! (Need expert opinion)
Hi everyone, I'm a DIY kind of guy, but as of now I think i messed up with the carburator, I always wanted to know how this tuning works and wanted to try it out on my bike ( biggest mistake I've ever done ) did some basic research in the internet and headed up to tune it ! Did it a couple of times and felt that something's not right, my bike started showing cold start issues, unstable rpm reading, so I thought I'd stick to stock tune which is somewhere in between (3.5-4) rotation anti clockwise from full tight! As of now my ZMA runns on an A/F ratio of 3.5! But I started facing mileage drop issues with this as well, cold start seems to be solved but when today I tried to kick start my bike after a couple of days, and it rained heavily for the past two days here! It didn't even bother to start up, after turning on the choke and and after some kicks I got ignition ! I had cleaned the carb twice and found out that there was a lot of dirt in the bottom of the carb! Plus I have this oil leakage in the airfilter ! Need supervised advice! Thank you

I have got K&N on my Karizma R (directly fotted on the carb). The initial thrust has increased alot which is really pleasing to experience and I am quite happy with this alteration. But, as far as damage to carb is concerned, I feel that dust particles may be going inside. Planning to get UNI Pod filter for it might give less pain to the carb !

The comfortable ride is back
. I can't vouch if the gas filled ones are any good than the stock ones, will have to ride a stock one back to back to verify that.
I am just wondering what is a thumb rule to realize that the suspension setup has gone bad and needs replacement. This time it clicked only after I paid a visit to the orthopedist.
Next thing that is bothering me is metal clinging noise observed after have ridden the bike for 20+ km and when the engine is hot.
I am suspecting the Tappet settings. I had asked the ASC guys to check it, but they ridiculed it out mentioning that it is better to not fidget with the settings.
I am nevertheless going to take a DIY for tappet settings as written by ashwinprakas.
Any more inputs would be highly appreciated.
Also, looking forward to answers for Lone7raveller card issue. Carb cleaning is also on my list.Rushikesh

Re: Karizma/Karizma R Ownership Experience
My issue seems to be solved now! I retuned it yesterday to somewhere in between (3.15-3.20) rotation anti clockwise from full tight! My bike was drenched in rain today and I started it after almost 8 hours! I left to college early morning and it rained heavily till evening here, after getting back from college and gave it a kick start, it started like charm with a single kick, plus the acceleration seems to be more refined and responsive now! Cleaned my carb as well as the fuel holes with petrol as suggested by ashwinprakas. Thankfully the issue seems to be solved now! I have issues with valve clearance, as my ZMA is giving a tik tik noise when I start it, but later on it's gone! Most probably it must be an issue with valve clearence itself as the engine heats up the metal expands and Gap is filled, although I'll give a check on the tension of the timing chain as well! Will keep you guys updated.Originally posted by rushikesh.ware View PostUpdate on new rear shocks.

Re: Help with HH karizma PS carb tuning! (Need expert opinion)
If you mess up the tuning you can always head to nearest Hero service center and they'll fix it for cheap , no big deal . But the carburetor has to be clean in the first place to achieve a good tune . The dirt you are getting in your carb seems to be rust , so firstly check the fuel tank for any water or rusting inside it . Empty & clean out the tank if so , else the carb shall choke up repeatedly from it . Check that the water-drain hole and tube inside the tank-cap is clean and clear to prevent water entry during rains .Originally posted by Lone7raveller View PostHi everyone, I'm a DIY kind of guy, but as of now I think i messed up with the carburator, I always wanted to know how this tuning works and wanted to try it out on my bike ( biggest mistake I've ever done ) did some basic research in the internet and headed up to tune it ! to prevent this fill engine oil upto correct level of the dipstick , be careful not to overfill oil .Originally posted by Lone7raveller View PostPlus I have this oil leakage in the airfilter !Last edited by Pinaki; 05-30-2018, 02:07 AM.

Re: Karizma/Karizma R Ownership Experience
Sir, I don't think it is an issue related to over filling of engine oil, cause I always make sure that I drain the entire oil out of my engine before refilling it! I use motul 20w50 semi synthetic oil (1 ltr) to refill !Originally posted by Pinaki View PostIf you mess up the tuning you can always head to nearest Hero service center and they'll fix it for cheap , no big deal .
