You said that "Premium/Boosted" fuel is ordinary fuel + additives....!! But actually what i wanted to convey thru that article was that it is not ordinary fuel + additives rather it is higher octane fuel + additives...!!! And, also with this a few additional benefits(listed in the article) are given by this fuel..!!Originally posted by Raccoon View PostWell... so what about it?
Its typical marketing rhetoric. But whats that page got to do with what I said??
Hope my point was clear..!
You said it right that 93 octane is not available now...!!Originally posted by mithun.08 View PostSmall correction, premium is 91, 93 is no more available
But, by premium did u mean "Xtra Premium" fuel by Indian oil which is 91 octane OR "premium" fuel which also includes Speed97 by BP..!
91 Octane fuel is offered by Indian oil co. by the name of "Xtra premium" but even higher octane fuel is available(as i said above)..!!Originally posted by Raccoon View Post^^^Thats right. And both types have the same octane rating, as of now (91)... as reported by the oil companies.

which also includes Speed 97, didnt mention it because many dont use and our bikes can run on normal fuel without any problemsOriginally posted by inder.cool View Post

Now the point is, if you want higher octane, go for Speed 97. Adding octane boosters will only help the manufacturing company, not your bike! And technically, Speed 97 will NOT help most Indian vehicles (bikes or cars). Some people report better performance with Speed 97. Its either psychological, or its possible that the performance of 91 octane dips further down, due to adulteration. If that happens, naturally 97 octane petrol will seem better! Almost all petrol we get is adulterated to varying extent. Its a huge racket...Originally posted by inder.cool View PostYou said that "Premium/Boosted" fuel is ordinary fuel + additives....!! Dude, as I said before, both ordinary and premium have the same octane. Here, by premium I mean 91 octane speed/xtra premium, etc.

97 octane is not very highly recommended for older engines due to the ernomous amount of heat generated. Back to the original point KNOCKING!!
..
Blade can you please give more details, when does the knocking occur(RPM), kms on the ODO etc
and what you think is knocking can be other issues lik tappet adjustments too

No dude... I see loads of misconceptions regarding fuels in this thread! Higher octane fuel does not mean it has more energy value!

I dint mean to say that it has more energy, but meant that more heat is generated if a higher octane fuel is used due to higher compression ratios and the ocaten rating, which is nothing but the fuels resistance to burning.Originally posted by Raccoon View PostHuh!?!?!?

But the compression ratios in our bikes/cars aren't gonna a whit higher than what they are designed for, if you use higher octane!! Using higher octane will not generate more heat!Originally posted by vinfreak View PostI dint mean to say that it has more energy, but meant that more heat is generated if a higher octane fuel is used due to higher compression ratios and the ocaten rating, which is nothing but the fuels resistance to burning.

Ya agree on the part that it is not requiredOriginally posted by mithun.08 View Postwhich also includes Speed 97, didnt mention it because many dont use and our bikes can run on normal fuel without any problems
But, for additional benefits you can always go in for the higher octane fuels...
I(on my ZiMA) and one friend of mine(niranjan, xbhp id: niranjanvaidya) on his P220 have experienced that the bike runs pretty smooth and accelerates pretty fast with Speed97...!!Originally posted by Raccoon View PostNow the point is, if you want higher octane, go for Speed 97. Just one question though...have you ever fueled in with Speed97..??
Buy petrol from authorised dealers only...Then you wud not get adulterated fuel...and to double check this check respective sites and find out about the official retailers..!Originally posted by Raccoon View PostAlmost all petrol we get is adulterated to varying extent. Its a huge racket...

Inder, I filled speed 97 for both my car and bike and both the vehicles choked on this fuel. Both my vehicles are running very smooth on normal unleaded fuel. May be different bikes behave differently to high octanes.HH Karizma (Current) || CBF Stunner PGM-FI || Honda CB Unicorn Dazzler

About Speed 97, as I said, technically its just not possible... you might be noticing the difference due to the reason I mentioned. Anyway, if it works for you, its fine... using gasolene of higher than required rating does not usually harm.Originally posted by inder.cool View Post

No I haven't used Speed 97 yet. Was tempted once, but the price put me off.
What do you mean by authorised dealers?
Do you mean company operated bunks? Even then its not guaranteed that its not adulterated... mebbe at best less adulterated.
