                • Another sad news fellow ZMA owners.

Yesterday night got a text from Aneesh bro, his family has decided to do away with the bike, and has asked me to find potential buyers. It was almost heartbreaking thinking he'd have to part with the ride, and that too after having put so much sweat and blood in it.

But ultimately, I believe it was the right thing to do, after all our bike's are just materialistic possessions, some day we'll have to out grow them and move on, cause as Randy Pausch said in his last lecture 'People matter more than things'.

                  • I respect Aneesh family's decision to give away the bike, else it would haunt them everytime they glance at the bike.

                        • My bike clocked 5k on odo yesterday . Economy is now at the 38-40 range (shifting at 4k and riding between 70-90 and occasional 100 and crawling through almost 10kms daily in heavy traffic in 1st and 2nd gear). Yes I am satisfied. The only thing that bothers me is the occasional tappet adjustment ceremony at the SVC . Which is as usual a pain in the you know where

Yesterday my exams got over and I decided to do some cleaning of the sprockets and chain as the ride has done 5k kms. So I decided to open the chain guard and front sprocket cover. Removed the bottom part of the chain cover but the top part couldn't be removed as it was stuck in between the tire and shocks .

This is the problem part : The front sprocket cover was attached using two bolts one at top and one at bottom. I tried to remove it using ring spanner of size 8. And damn it was too tight. I couldn't even turn even one bold out . I wonder how they tight these things .

End result : The bolts got damaged now the spanner slips and rotates on the bolts as the edges of the bolts are spoiled. So I decided to leave it from causing further mishaps.

And yesterday after coming from college, riding about 25kms I checked the bike at home for any unwanted sounds and yeah there is seems like the tappets are loose again so planning to visit the SVC shortly.

And one more news : Yesterday I bought 20w 40 oil from my regular oil shop. Payed 220rs for 900ml (gulf). The shopkeeper said from next year the price will be 270 rs for the same . The oil comes in new package and he said it hasn't begun delivery yet but they are expecting it soon.

Leave the tappets alone bro, they dont get loose this soon, If I remember correct we adjusted our's during the same time, and even with my rigorous riding style my settings are still intact, so better doubt something else, most probably drive chain noise due to dirt accumulation inside the front sprocket cover.

Squeeze, slide and remove the top part, making sure it doesnt rub against the suspension nor the alloys. Its hard first, but then you'll get the hang of it.

I always pertain to use proper 6 sided box spanners for the following, hope you follow the same.

Dont worry, the SVC guys are good at dealing with this, they'll just break off the bolts and then removed the lodged in part using a special kind of tool that looks like a vice grip.

Re-diagnose, We adjusted at about the same time, you at JVC and me at home, my bike at the time was nearing 4k, and now its nearing 7k, still no probs, so I believe its something else. Put the bike in 5 th gear while in central stand and let it run, note whether the bike jerks, if yes, then the drive chain is the culprit.

And one more news : Yesterday I bought 20w 40 oil from my regular oil shop. Payed 220rs for 900ml (gulf). Lucky you, here we get only 1L bottles, and cause of that, I always end up over filling it, but thanks to god, till now have'nt experienced oil leaks, guess the bike can tolerate upto 1L when refilling after draining, anyways am now looking for those canister type thingi in which we can measure liquid volumes, i,e like the once they use in petrol pumps to add oil for 2T's, but unfortunately they only come in 100,200,500,1000's but no 900.

                            • I am pretty sure its not the drive chain making the noise. Because I revved the bike in stand still position only. I cannot check during riding because I always use my lid.

I also have a feeling it is not the tappet because there is a slight tappet noise when the bike gets hot which is usual and present earlier also. But the thing is now other noises are prominent now. Its a total mix and cannot point out clearly. Well let me change the engine oil and lets see if it persists. .

Ignore bro, only bother if there's loss in performance. Frankly speaking my bike's also making all sorts of noise, but here's what I do, I've added some freaky blingy keychains so that the noise they make covers up the rest of the bike's noises.
