    • Morning while coming from office, I was riding at 90 kmph on empty roads and enjoying the fresh morning air. At a deep turn, slowed down and down shifted the gear lever for gear change. Felt a feather touch and wondered as if there was no gear lever. Accelerated again thinking I shifted down the gear to 4, but engine started lugging and immediately noticed the gear is still in 5. Tried again to shift down, and again the feather touch, and I immediately looked down. There was not gear shifter . Later found that it was hanging. The screw that holds the gear lever near the foot rest has come off. Later with difficulty I reached home and temporarily put a plus screw. Later found that my mechanic did not tighten the screw when he cleaned the front sprocket.

Maverick, twice I changed the same parts and was all smiles after knowing the price of the spares.

You, OF, Sree are my Zma gurus
        Gear lever jugaad.. Brilliant !

Yeah, i was scared shitless as Ive heard that Zma spares are sometimes prohibitively expensive. Also, to my good fortune, the SC had the spares and the works manager assigned a mech pronto. I was in and out in 20 mins thanks to the works manager

For the perusal of bangy HH owners. Nikhi motors, near Mekhri circle seems to stock Zma spares. The service isn't bad either.
However, all these positives come courtesy of Mr. Sudhakar, the works manager there. The other WM there, a certain Mr. Arumugham, is a bungling idiot

          • One more story, when my Zma clocked around 23k, I went to HH service station for air filter clean. Obviously, they were busy and denied the service immediately. They asked me to leave the bike for an hour or two. With obvious frustration, I started back and saw the spares division. Enquired about the new air filter price and found it to be only 170 bucks. Thought anyway the life time of filter is nearing and immediately bought one and replaced it myself.

Also recently, when I needed to change the front brake pads, the brake pads completely worn out and could not run the bike anymore, found the thread of one of the two screws that holds the brake pads gone kaput. Had to take the bike to lathing machine and take that out by rethreading the screw and pull out. After this, I rode the bike without front brake with pillion back to HH service station in traffic at 6 pm. Appreciated my skills myself The finer part of the story comes here. Went to the spares and asked for the screw and found the screw to be out of stock. Enquired via phone at other HH spares and found none. Now I left without front brake pads and not spare part. Cursing myself for how lucky I am. I knew a good mechanic over there in HH and told him my story. He immediately went to the spares counter and pulled out one screw for me that was kept seperately. Lucky me. I am all smiles and soon my smiles vanished when I come to know that the price of that screw is 250 bucks. The mechanic there ordered one for himself (he had a karizma) and gave that one to me.

Another story. Recently found the right rear indicator hanging from the neck after I kept my bike idle for one week in the parking lot. Went to the HH Spares and ordered one thinking the price would be around 100 bucks. The real price is 250 bucks. Now, I did not get surprised and I am used to it.

The front right cowl of my Zma has completely broken from joints in a recent crash and I am yet to source the part. Just running by sticking it in place.

Actually, I personally know the mechanic well and he is not the guy from HH service station. I made him to do the work in hurry and the result of that is this.

              • Ravi !
You oughta be titled: "Jugaad king" man
You've been through quite a few 'interesting' episodes with your Zma i notice
Ive noticed that most screws, levers, switches etc on the Zma seem to be shared with the Uni. And i know for certain that the Uni's spares are very reasonable. Next time, some miscellaneous component goes kaput, check up if you can buy it from a Honda SC.

~220 rs for clutch/brake lever and ~170 rs for bar end weight. These are for RTR. and i thought only zma's parts were expensive

                    Reality check eh Satish?
The RTR's levers and the end weighs have the Zma beat as far as looks and quality are concerned. Im sure that's the reason for the price.

Btw, did you know that the R15's clutch lever costs 100/- only?

lol.....yep at times i feel that i could maintain a zma instead of my RTR. in most case rtr beats zma hands down when it comes to spares cost

Heck.....i got soo used to all these rates, i felt my splendor spare parts are dead cheap. Got it serviced after 6 months and 6k kms(changed oil inbetween). I was expecting the bill to be around 1000bucks, but everything was done in under 500 bucks

                      • The trick here is, the parts that you frequently replace in Karizma are expensive (most of them) and the parts that you replace rarely are inexpensive.

Costly spares in Karizma: Brake pads (1750), cowls (always above 1000 bucks), headlight assembly (1600), tail lamp assembly each(250 bucks), cam tensioner (1600), t-stem (1280), silencer heat shield (gold color 850, chrome 550), speedo gear assembly (300 bucks), foot peg assembly (1200), alloy wheel (5500), chain sprocket (once used to be 2800, now only 750).

Normal spares: gear lever, clutch lever, clutch and throttle cables, rear brake shoes, bar weights, handle bar.

I found some of the spares of RTR and P220 are more costlier than Zma.

Maverick, more interesting stories are there with my bike. It keeps me excited all the time. But, in all tours it never let me down, what a tourer it is, am loving my bike. Long live Karizma.

                        • @satish: You oughta go public with this revelation man. Will stop all the HH bashing going around

What you said about the RTR's servicing is the same with the P150 Ditsy that i had. Bought her second hand and a general service (Post warranty) always meant triple digit bills
My Uni to date continues to run like a charm (Second hand too) and the general services never exceed 350-450 bucks

@Ravi: Amen to that man. 1700kms and Ive already comprehensively fallen in love with my Zma !

Yes anna some parts are quiet cheaper than other bikes. RTR tails cost's close to 1500 rs rear grab rail 350rs each

BTW have u forgot abt the fuse saga and the dsg nero episode at kondachadri?
