        You bet.
Happened with my room mate's P150 once.

@All: Does the new Hero ZMA come with Bybre brakes?

        • Guys- How would one know if the sprocket is worn?

2 services back, I gave my ZMA to Sai Ram Motors and the bike didnt feel very good after that. Did a Kerala trip with that, and the chain started getting loose close to 2k kms mark. Then , when I gave my ZMA to Dheena Motors for service. The mechanic there said that the sprocket is gone. I didnt believe him and asked him to tighten the chain. When the bike was returned, the chain was still loose and when asked, he insisted on changing sprocket.

I resisted, and he proceeded to tighten the chain. The bike was back to old ways after that. But there is a slight chain noise, which I believe is common to all ZMA's and my bike has been having since a very long time. So wanted to know how to identify a worn sprocket. If indeed the sprocket is worn out (22k kms, 5 yrs old), I dont mind replacing it.

In my experience, generally you should change the sprocked when you change your chain. Which means replace the complete set front and rear sprockets and chain. If you replace only one, the wear on that new part because of other older parts will be higher. Ideally chain set in Karizma last around 20K Kms. Assuming that it can be accepted that your chain set might be worn out now.

Now coming to the noise from chain. Your sprocket might also be worn out as well as your chain. I think the only way to figure out try moving your chain sideways from around the areas close to sprocket. If it moves a decent amount that means there is a lot of play in your sprocket and chain which means the chain set is gone. I am not aware of how to exactly find that chainset is worn out. Some more knowledgeable members can probably explain. But the signs of chain set being worn is excessive chain noise, plus a lot of sideways movement of chain when the bike is motion and also chain becoming loose.

If you have not changes your chain set till now, I think you can contemplate replacing the chain set.

            • Krish, after 29k there definitely would be wear out of the sprockets; with use it bounds to happen. If there is still chain adjustment left, and if you are on a budget, you can just use it for another 5-6k kms. Better change the chain-sprocket kit after 25k kms. You can differentiate the worn out and normal sprockets (look at the teeth) in the following link.

              • Thanks guys for your responses. I will get the sprockets and chain changed. It hasn't been changed as yet.

I also think, there was a period of 4 yrs when the bike was rarely used (6k kms in 4yrs), and a lot of times, the bike was used without servicing. So lack of oil might also have contributed to the wear and tear.

I was hearing reports of ZMA sprockets lasting till 40k kms + and was concerned if it was a geniuine suggestion by the mechanic. I tend not to trust them in the first instance. Anyway, tmrw, have to get clutch cable, front brakes changed, so will do this alongwith it.

The 2011 & 2012 Models of Karizma have same part numbers for front brake assembly , but which are different than 2003 model Karizma .
So if 2011 model have Nissin brakes then 2012 should also have same as the spare number is same . Owners can confirm it .

                  • Hi everyone, well am new to this thread as am having a pulsar220 dtsi with joel's ffe and big bore kit so dont visit this thread that much, but after riding a karizma zma for around 450 kms today from palakkad(Kerala) to Bangalore;am forced to visit this thread and write this that KARIZMA IS STILL ONE OF THE BEST TOURING MACHINES AVAILABLE IN THE MARKET TODAY or should i say a complete BANG FOR ITS BUCK.Although it didn't had a good top end like my p220 but still who was bothered about it anyways.I rode in speeds of 110kmph-115kmph all day but still the bike never exhausted though.Ok now, being a pulsar guy its difficult for me to praise its main competitor karizma, but here i go; am mighty impressed with its highway capabilities and even thought for a second or so to sell off my pulsar and go for a karizma, he he just joking guys both are good machines and are perfect in their own ways and hope so hero will not discontinue this model and will soon launch its worthy successor.Ok then not making you all bore anymore, continue with your ownership experiences and hope everyone's enjoying up to their core with their machines, bye biker brothers, take care, ride hard-ride safe.

It takes a Big Heart to appreciate another bike esp., after you had souped up your Pulsar.....Your observation about the ZMA is what makes most of the owners happy, and keep the relationship for long...

                      • Miraculously getting FE of around 42-45 on my last full tank. Was shocked, checked the spark plugs, its perfect, no indications of being lean. Fingers crossed if it remains the same No changes done what so ever and no changes in my riding style. Definitely not a calculation mistake. Got a range of 715-720 on a full tank(Shell unleaded, as always). And all of it being in the city. Theres a gut feeling something somewhere there is a locha Drained out the Castrol FS and back to Shell AX7 again. Seems like the Zma is super happy with Shell

I am experimenting with Shell Rimula R3x diesel oil for the past 450 Kms...First 200 kms I got 32~33 kms FE..now for the past 250 odd Kms I am getting around 40+ in city...I am a bit worried, and had been checking oil level and quality and also the plug color...everything is normal.....I went for this oil because it has higher ZDDP,a compound which has high wear resistant property....I did this because modern Petrol oils are low in this compound to save the Catcon....On further search I also found that Gulf Pride, Shell Ax 4T ,Motul oil all contain this product in their oil as an anti-wear additive. From 2010 onwards this material was supposed to be reduced to 0.1 % in oil whereas in these oils sold in India, it is about 1~2 %....whereas in oils used in Cars the ZDDP is already being reduced.
Hope this continues and continue to safeguard our engines....

                            • Changed the front fork springs, and here is the comparison of the length of old and new. There is a difference of more than .75 cm. And the old one is 6 years old.

And the G-power Sparkplug. Any guess how it is doing? The AFR is around 3.5 turns. I get an FE of 33-34 in city and 37-40 on highway.

The ZDDP poisons the Catalytic converter over a period of time and so it had been decided by the API certifying consortium to reduce it to 0.1 %,for now , and slowly reduce it to near zero in future.

I have similar looking G power plug with a little tan, and with the Diesel oil I am experimenting with, getting 40+ FE in city..Yours should give better FE by the looks of the plug..Obviously it looks burnt and with ash, either your engine oil or the petrol is contributing to it....may be the Flash had heightened the ash like effect
