Oil prevents water from getting to the surface and it's a good idea to put in 2 drops of oil in to the key hole as the monsoon rains have started . Also , light switches will/might be affected . Mine's a bit tight ( the indicator switch ) and will try to open it up this week end .
Also have to clean my carb since the engine stutters ( and goes on only if I give choke ) if I rev the engine above 6-7k rpm for 15 or 20 seconds .
Seems like a whole lot to do this week end since I have to over haul my front brake as well .

Thank you all for Suggestions. I will do it right away as i faced the problem last night too.

When the front wheel was turning the cable was like 3 quarter turn then stop then 3 quarter turn and so on . Means the gear is gone . Most probably when the cable broke , it jammed and damaged the nylon gear too . Any way , bought one (speedo gear) and hope to do the DIY this week end . In the mean while , have disconnected the cable from the speedo end to prevent damage to the socket there .

That speedo gear in my ZMA used to go kaput very often earlier. The first time being on the very first ride within 3 kms. Since then it got changed twice more in the first 8 months, but since then has been working fine. As you prefer, DIY would be the best option, coz these SC guys wont show interest in it as the tyre has to be removed completely

      • Guys my cousin is planning to buy a bike and is confused between KarizmaR (don't like ZMR looks) and Yamaha R15.

No his argument is that Karizma is more powerful thanR15 has it has better torque 18.35NM @ 6000RPM while R15 torque is 15NM @ 7500 RPM. This instantly means Karizma has better pickup than R15. He also says that both bikes have same power i.e. 17PS. Here I tell him that R15's peak power is at 8500RPM while Karizma delivers the same power at 7000RPM thuis R15 is revv friendly and powerful than Karizma.

Please tell what is the basis of saying one biek is more powerful than other?

Is Karizma Powerful than R15 or vice versa?

R15 is a track oriented learners bike and hence more sporty and rev friendly even after being a longstroke. Where as the ZMA is a Sports Tourer and hence produces massive low end torque but at the same time a comparatively lesser top end.

Initial pick-up for Karizma is more than R15. 0-100 figures for both bikes more or less similar, with R15 having slight edge. R-15's power lies in higher rpms and hence needs to be revved high. In city Karizma has better pull than R-15.

R-15 is completely in a different league in handling. With Deltabox frame and excellent monoshock, coupled with excellent sticky MRF tyres, its a delight in corners, with very good high-speed stability and excellent braking. R-15 is wind-tunnel tested and resists crosswinds better than Karizma. R-15 is more fuel efficient with sane riding, compared to Karizma. In addition, R-15 comes with liquid cooling and fuel injection.

The strong points for Karizma is its refined and smooth engine with superb torque at bottom. There is no need to rev the karizma much to tap the power. The rider-friendly position of Karizma is excellent for long rides, coupled with relaxed engine.

Choosing between the two depends a lot on rider's needs.

            • It's over three years since I own this bike and still using the stock horn.

I tried to upgrade many times but could not find a decent sounding horn.

I have seen few 220s and Karizmas with those round chrome plated horns but could not make out the brand.

              Guys any suggestions over this?

Also note that I am still running with stock Amco battery (If that makes any difference).

I believe you'd be happy with Roots Windtones.

Add Pulsar hi-tone to the stock horn and that's more than enough. I would not want to fancy my arrival with some flowery horns with funky sound. So I'm keeping it simply, silly!

Check your battery and if it is due, please upgrade to 9ah and add the horn and worry little.

If you switch to dual horns, please upgrade your battery to 9Ah from 7Ah(stock) as current current consumption increases.

                    • Philips XTREME VISION

                      Hi,

Was having tough time riding my zma at night with the stock headlamp. Have used Philips Xtreme Vision +100% light in my optra and found excellent improvement over the stock, so thought over why not get the same xtreme vision installed in zma.

Today went up to MAHESH AUTOMOTIVE in Feelkhana, the only stockist of PHILIPS EXTREME VISION in hyderabad bought a H4 60/55w and plonked onto my zma. It was absolutely bright and as they claim, the beam was very long and wider.

I stay 20kms away from the city and needed to do highway riding regularly, and today i have found much improvement (almost 200%) in visibility and didn't strain my eyes at all.

Though they cost on a higher side, night time visibility and safety is important. I can damn sure assure anyone will be satisfied by the kind of improvement by using this bulb in the stock specs without upgrading by adding relays, ceramic holders, burning up the reflectors.

                      • Then give this a honk! I'm currently using it. Went and tried the Pulsar horns but felt that they were'nt a considerable upgrade from stock. Originally was heading for the Maruti OEM's but by accident/luck stumbled onto these, real VFM and louder than both Pulsar horns and Maruti OEM, but at the same time retains the conservative nature as well as its a plug and play.

Tractor horn from Addon. Costs Rs.290/- IIRC.

Good to hear! I believe your bike is with a 9ah battery..If not, upgrade to it..It will put a big smile even if you ride with headlamps on for 3+hrs. Im thoroughly enjoying the light spread and all credits goes to Sriram. It just its up the road like anything. slapped myself during my recent nonstop complete night ride from banglore to chennai for not using the xtremevision with a 9ah battery. Enjoy pal..long way to go!

If the battery is not old and until you're not looking for a new battery, there is no need to upgrade the battery even if you're running with headlight on for more than 3 hours. (tried and tested, alongwith Bosch Dual horns = Skoda horns)

Sir please lets not make anyone afraid of the reflector burns because he would never make it out from the throw of the light until and unless he intentionally look into the reflectors
However an idea from my side is if we can get access to the reflector then we can paste some aluminium foil at the particular line, it wont get dull due to its resistance towards heat.
