Yamalube lasts close to 2500kms, motul 5100 lasts 3500-4000kms. The engine revvs up more freely with motul5100. That's the only difference between the two. Oh and motul5100 is 20 rs costlier than yamalube.

Chain + sprockets come as a set known as chain set and life depends on how you are riding as well as maintenance. I've lubed my chain pretty well throughout it's 13000kms life and till date it's just about reached 50% of it's life. If you lube your chain at proper intervals, the chain set can last 20k kms.

A worn out chain will not tighten up even at chain tension level 7. A worn out chain will have damaged links. Worn out sprocket will have wear and tear on the sprocket teeth.

    • ^^ Does it in anyway affect the engine/gear-braking ? I got my bike used and don't know how the previous owner has maintained the chain set, folks at SVC asked me change the rear brake pads, liner(?) and the chain-set, my bike has done ~10k kms, is the life of the parts so less ?

      • yamalube semi is the motul semi synth, and the fully synth yamalube is the 300V motul. No difference just different badging.

I don't think so, but then I have to tell you that my experience with yamalube was very limited. It comes prefilled in the bike when they first give it to you, then I poured that in at the first service. At the second service I took motul5100 with me. Now till my time with yamalube I wasn't riding hard, true there were a couple of 100-120 kph runs but not nearly the kind of abuse my bike goes through these days. I am constantly on 7k+ all day and the motul5100 still hasn't given me bad gear shifts even after close to being run 3500 kms without an oil change.

Anyways, engine braking depends on the gearing of your bike I think. I don't think it'd change with engine oils.

SVC guys usually ask everyone to change their chain. My friend's chain was at adjustment level 3 (max is at 7) and they told him to change it. can you post a close up picture of your chain and sprocket so that we could tell if it needs a replacement or not? Oh and at the end of the swingarm, there would be a semicircle kinda metal plate. there would be a metal kink on the left side of the plate, there would be numbers written on the plate. Tell us on which no. does the metal kink is placed right now.

Rear brake pads, well hard to tell you how to judge whether they need replacement, I'll post a pic of mine and show you, but that'll have to wait till morning.

10k kms is very less time for replacement, if the chain was maintained. If not, then it is probably ****ed by now. Also, usually people don't use the front brakes too often as they think it'll cause the bike to skid and hence the rear wears off really quickly. WRONG practice, anyone trying to stop a sports bike with only the rear brake shoudn't be riding that bike in the first place. Also, some guys ride with the rear brake lever pressed, so the brake pads wear off rather quickly.

          • So there's been this problem with my bike since the past month or so. AT lower revvs, sometimes the bike shuts down. It doesn't stalls, just shuts down as if I had stopped it via the kill switch. This usually used to happen at traffic lights, i.e. when I stopped the bike to a standstill and then start it again at green light, sometimes it used to shut down. But yesterday it shut down on me while I was preparing to take a U-turn. It was kinda scary as I didn't notice the engine stopping (due to excess honking andtraffic was insane) and I leaned it in and throttled away but she didn't move when I opened the throttle. I was quick to put my foot down else it would've been another crash.

SO what to do about this bike shutting down at low rpm issue?

I thought it was due to clogged injectors, and would go away with more kms, but it's been more than 1000 kms and it hasn't gone away. Could this be a spark plug issue?

              Thanks in advance.
A bike is only as bad as it's worst rider.

The radiator fins will get bent, u can get them straightened at some Air conditioner repair shop, where they have that large comb sort of thing.

P.S. even the bent ones shouldnt create any problem, i am not sure on this.

                      • Today I went to svc to purchase chain lube. The guy there is asking me to buy the chain cleaner too. He says I shouldn't lube without using the cleaner first, else the chain will get rusted. Is he right? Can't I just lube the chain after a water wash?

just make sure u clean the chain using kerosene/petrol and a tooth brush then dry it, before lubing

It is always recommended to use chain cleaner.

It often takes a humiliating overtake to understand that an early jump off the red light won't help them lead the pact. All I want to say is - Go after green.
