Thanks a lot. But when i went to the service centre taking up the complaint, he in front of me opened the handlebar and fitted the cone set properly. Since I have been a regular customer of that service centre, they know me very well and glad they pay special attention to my complaints. Now the problem is inspite of reinstalling the cone set again the problem is not rectified fully, though i must say that its far better than before. That 5% of dissatisfacton is the main problem. i can do as it is but then since i ride harsh, that thing will be always in the back of my mind! anything that i can do from my side, please suggest me!

    cheers!

Ideally, the races should be press fitted in one stroke on a press and the fitting should be true and concentric and touching the collar evenly all round in the steering head. Unfortunately, these guys use make shift methods where by they hammer the race in to the steering head. This leads to the race not sitting properly on the collar and being slightly twisted. The other problem is the fact that while tightening the steering head bolt, no torque wrench is used to apply the proper torque as specified in the service manual. The net result is over tightened bolt which puts abnormal pressure on the bearings.

All of these issue combine to create the problems mentioned by you.

    • Starting Issues

      Hi,

I can't get my bike to start, it had spent the whole of July outside in the rain, the last time I rode was at the end of June and had a slide thanks to some sleeping cattle.

I tried to start it back in August and managed to drain the battery, so I charged it last night.

Now what I have checked so far,

Fuel is in the tank, more than half full
      Starter motor=OK
      Starter Motor relay=Ok
      Starter relay = Ok
      Battery = Ok
      Spark plug = OK
      Spark plug cap = OK
      Getting a nice spark
Fuel pump seems ok, does it's usual whine
I have good compression (thumb tested)
Engine is turning over, but not starting, have also tried with the stock ecu, fuel is definitely going through, I get the odd flame from the exhaust. The only thing I suspect is the spark plug wire/cap, possibly it's not giving good contact when I refit back to the spark plug.

Any other ideas where else to look?

Seems like you have a bad ignition coil or a bad plug. I know, you said that you have a good spark, but since you have tried everything else, I suggest getting the same checked. Plugs may show a spark, but the plug or ignition coil can still be bad.

Had a mechanic come over this morning, he seems to think i have a stuck valve, especially since the bike was lying idle for a long time, have to change the rocker arms anyway, so we'll open her up on friday, i did check the coil with my multimeter , readings are well within spec, spark plug has only done 150 kms, i changed this when i changed the spark plug wire and cap back in may. The theory of a stuck valve/s makes sense, since i have fuel and spark, air starvation seems the culpret, unless the fuel has gone bad, i last filled in may to test a new map, got busy so couldn't cover many kms

Did you get the engine opened? What is the status of the valves? Will be interesting to know what happen in there.

Hello guys, a small query. My bike makes a loud 'tak tak' sound while going over rough surfaces. The sound seems to be coming from the chain hitting the swing arm. I've done everything I can but the sound still persists. Went to ASC and local mechanics too, but they couldn't rectify the problem. It doesn't even need a pothole, just some irregular surface and the sound comes "tak tak tak...". Chain is properly tightened as required, neither too tight nor too loose. I clean the chain every 400 - 500 kms at home with diesel and lube it with chain lube spray. Please help!!

Note: My bike has done less thank 12k on the odo and the chain and the sprockets are in perfect condition as they are cleaned and lubed timely always by myself.

You can try to put the Bike on centre stand(if available) or on the side stand and lift the rear tyre and check for free rotation of the wheel. Take help from a friend if required. If you notice the same sound, get the wheel bearing checked/greased/changed if reqd..
It may not be bearing prob but still worth a try.

Maybe the tool kit or the gear foot lever because I had a fall and there is a tick tick sound coming because the gear pedal had come into contact with road when I had a fall.
