I am using Yamaha recommended from past 3.3 yrs and still change the oil at 2900kms-3000kms-3100kms interval. Absolute no issues and still maintaining a figure of FE 40-45kmpl.
Done many nonstop 500kms+ rides no issues, So just wondering what benefit does it gives changing in mere 1500-1800kms interval ??

As a general yardstick, recommended oil change intervals by factories are actually on a slightly conservative side. These intervals are recommended based on whole range of considerations. Changing oils at 1,500 to 1,800 kms is not going to give you any obvious additional benefit as such. However, it does ensure that oil in your bike is cleaner than what it will be at 3,000 kms mark. I have always changed my oil at 2,000 kms mark irrespective of which oil I have used. Recently, I had to split open the whole engine (have covered over 25,000 kms) and upon examination of all parts, we found that all parts are like new. There is not a single mark of abnormal wear anywhere on the components.

So the bottom line is; change the oil regularly thereby keeping the general state of oil cleaner and healthier. This will enable the oil to perform at its best and help protect against any abnormal wear.

Hello R15ians, I am fed up with the problem faced by my bike.
Recently I got my 7th service from a local mechanic done and till then I used to prefer ASC only but later was not impressed by the service they render.
I asked the local mechanic for valve clearance and he told me that he has done it for 2 of my friends and they were satisfied too but after I got valve clearance done the pull till 4k rpm isn't the same as earlier, I mean its decreased and doesn't take cold start I'm forced to start it like non FI engines(pull the throttle and start). But it does not continue after it gets warm but untill then in slow moving traffic or a U-turn it turns off and also there will be a lag when I open the throttle fully till it gets warm.
I thought the idling was very low (shows 1.1 - 1.3k rpm when warm)
So I learnt how to set idling from one of the recent posts and did the same. While doing so I heard some sound hisss..and am worried if I have over done it! Please do provide solution what has happened and what is to be done?

If you think the valve tappet clearances are suspect and you are not satisfied with the ASC, go to another ASC and get it checked. Checking of the tappet clearances should be done on a cold engine.

Thanks for replying and I did not get valve clearance done at ASC instead local mechanic! Next service I am going to a ASC and explain what the problem is and will get it rectified!

Its 15k on the odo now. I had given my bike for service at 14300 kms it was giving a good mileage of 45kmpl worst case was 40kmpl, before the service bike was switching off while moving at slow speeds with the clutch pulled.. i had got this included in the job card.. now the problem has been rectified but mileage has suddenly dropped below 30kmpl, what could he have done to rectify it?? are there any chances that the Air-Fuel ratio is changed?
when the bike is in idle the engine doesnt sound like before.. i feel its running faster but idle rpm is 1.2k..
suggest me something.. i ride around 70 kms a day.. 25-30kmpl is really not managable

Nothing great of an advantage as such but whatever the oil quality or additives in it an oil change every 1500kms is better than any xyz oil changed at 3000 kms not by much though to write home about but in generally for the peace of mind I change it at that interval morever I use motul 3100 gold 20w50 that costs much less than yamalube 15w50 ss so the costs come out same every 3000kms for both oils give or rake 100 bucks

                        • Yamaha R 15 Engine issues at 20k kms!!

                          Hi guys

Its been a while since I posted on this forum. I ride a 2010 Yamaha r 15 with about 20 thousand kms on the clock, or screen in this case. It was services about 4000kms back and was currently running on the factory spec oil.

Last night I started my bike after leaving it for about 16 hours, warmed he up for about 30-45 seconds (I warm my bike up for about 90 seconds when I start her up after a night or day/s) and rode off.

3-4 kms later I was on a smooth rode riding hard and went wide open throttle coming out of a nice bend. My bike's engine was going from 7-8-9 thousand rpm and then just dropped with a clanking noise to about 4-5k rpm. It was totally random. Power dropped off and I feathered it to the side, got off and then heard the noise. Sounds like tappets i.e its a clanking almost metallic sound. Goes clank clank clank with the revolutions of the bike.

I have always taken care of my bike but have ridden her hard. She has hardly clocked any numbers to have failed on me in this manner.

Please to give me your feedback before I take her to a service center. I would like to be informed before I go.

                          Thanking you guys.
