Its been a while since I posted on this forum. I ride a 2010 Yamaha r 15 with about 20 thousand kms on the clock, or screen in this case. It was services about 4000kms back and was currently running on the factory spec oil.

Last night I started my bike after leaving it for about 16 hours, warmed he up for about 30-45 seconds (I warm my bike up for about 90 seconds when I start her up after a night or day/s) and rode off.

3-4 kms later I was on a smooth rode riding hard and went wide open throttle coming out of a nice bend. My bike's engine was going from 7-8-9 thousand rpm and then just dropped with a clanking noise to about 4-5k rpm. It was totally random. Power dropped off and I feathered it to the side, got off and then heard the noise. Sounds like tappets i.e its a clanking almost metallic sound. Goes clank clank clank with the revolutions of the bike.

I have always taken care of my bike but have ridden her hard. She has hardly clocked any numbers to have failed on me in this manner.

Please to give me your feedback before I take her to a service center. I would like to be informed before I go.

      Thanking you guys.
Hey could anyone help me out here.

Any ideas of what might have gone wrong?

      Thanks

When was the last time you got your Bike Serviced, did you check the Engine Oil Level? Yes as Tanmay says it sounds like a SEIZURE so it would be best for you to take it to the SVC guys ASAP without wasting any more time.

I think the same. There is no smoke. The engine was running at normal temps too. You do you think it might be a bearing? Maybe from the crank?

The bike was serviced exactly 3800 kms back. Last I checked around 2000 kms, the oil/ oil level was fine. I will go to the service center, no other choice.

I was hoping for some more info from somebody who might have gone through a similar experience before. There was no sign of the engine giving up before it did. There is just a clanking noise and loss of power. Still starts up the way it did. No smoke. No excessive heat.

Replacement of a cone set depends on how old is your vehicle! That tick sound when you hard break or bump a pothole can be rectified by tightening the cone set and balancing it!

If at all it was a issue of valves only clanking or click noise should come and moreover when tappets get too lose that sound arises and there will be no issue with the power! Once get valve clearance done! I doubt that might be the problem. Because I too revv hard like almost all the time and mileage had decreased slightly and power remained the same. So I doubt if your bike's tappet hadn't been adjust for a very long time which has loosened way too much!

                      Hey guys,

I have to change my bike's rear tyre.
I own the version 1 of the R15.

I've been looking in a lot of places but i couldn't find the stock rear tyre anywhere.
What other options would you suggest? I am least interested in how it looks, I love the way the r15 handles and wouldn't want to do anything to compromise its qualities.

A shopowner suggested i fir a michellin front tyre of the same size to the rear but i've read it can be extreme;y dangerous.

I need your help in finding a suitable alternative.

                      Please help me out guyz.

                      Thanks and regards,

                      Vikram

How about enquiring for a stock tyre at a ASC? They probably will have! I do not have any idea about tyres! I insist you stick to stock one for obvious reasons and try what I have mentioned above!

Please don't fix a front tyre as rear or vice versa. The profiles are very different&you will realize you made a big mistake.
I had posted long back about alternative tyre options including ContiGo, Pirelli etc.
But nothing like the MRF stock tyre if you can source one.

Please search for that post-hope it helps you.

                            I did try the ASC.
They don't have the tyres. They suggested that I use the rear tyre of the new version. Im unsure of what to really do.
I love the stock but can't seem to find them.
                            I'll keep the hunt on.

Please do let me know if any of you come across the stock rear tyre.

i have clocked 10k km in my r15 v2.0 and the service guys asked me to change the handlebar cone set. though i did not face any problem in handling, they told it that it was perished and would damage the chasis collar. I got it changed a few days back but unfortunately my bike is not handling as it should. Its nervous at curves and during overtakes. I have tried to rectify it but the Yamaha guys tell me that it does not have any problem. Further i usually wear my helmet in go. now when i leave both my hands to wear my helmet, the bike at the speed of around 30-40 kmhr starts waving itself. and then as the speeds goes further down it just becomes uncontrollable. This didn't used to happen in the past and even at speed of 20, i used to leave the handlebar and it used to be dead straight and stable

please suggest me that what can be further done because i hate her handling like this!
                              Thanks!

Go back to the service center and tell them about the problem. The problem is with the way they have fitted the cone set bearing races in to the steering head. Ideally, the races should be press fitted in one stroke on a press and the fitting should be true and concentric and touching the collar evenly all round in the steering head. Unfortunately, these guys use make shift methods where by they hammer the race in to the steering head. This leads to the race not sitting properly on the collar and being slightly twisted. The other problem is the fact that while tightening the steering head bolt, no torque wrench is used to apply the proper torque as specified in the service manual. The net result is over tightened bolt which puts abnormal pressure on the bearings.

All of these issue combine to create the problems mentioned by you.
