anyway on the performance note i am very much satisfied. But i feel that i am spending too much on her. Another major expense was the replacement of the handlebar bearing. The full set costed me 3300 bucks here in the NCR region. Not even 10k km and the handlebar bearings perished? I have been using fazer too and it does not take me fortunes to maintain it. This is my main concern!

Re: Yamaha YZF-R15
Hey guys,
My junior is looking to buy a R15, I love it too ............. but my obvious concerns being a senior are
1. FE in city/touring
2. The cost of the service at the ASC (please let me know grade & ltr of engine oil used in R15)
3. Some common concerns associated with the R15.
Warm Regards,
Pranav

Thanks for the info yaar.Originally posted by awesomeo View PostYou need to change it depending upon wear and tear. I ride a v1, and I just picked up new rotors last week. When the thickness of the rotor reduces beyond a certain threshold, it's advisable to change. 35K is too early to change, unless you've ridden too much with a worn out brake pad.
Happens, I get a similar life with my brake pads. Don't worry, business as usual. Quality of the brake pads are steadily declining. There is not much you can do about it.---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Re: Yamaha YZF-R15
The cost of the kit doesn't justify the performance gain.. Also the damage to the engine is also not worth it..Originally posted by Ezilkannan View Posthas anyone ever tried the daytona kit from Yamaha? Is it worth it?
The whole daytona kit for R15 costs close to a new bike
so bettet not go for it.. My advice..
Ride safe and have fun.

Re: Yamaha YZF-R15
Ivin I too had thought any grade of the above mentioned by you can be used but recently when I had a casual talk which my friends who have biking experience like over 5-6years claimed that one a particular grade has to be used and must not be changed from each drain to another as the piston would be set to rotate or move according to the thickness of the oil being used and get used to push and pull at same force so the thickest amongst those three is 20w50 which is usually used for bikes which take much of heating like P220, cbr250 and the like nd R15 is extremely good at aerodynamic and doesnt need such a thick oil and isn't recommended from the company also! This is what I got to know from that discussion but don't know how far it is right!Originally posted by Ivin View Post20w40 , 20w50, 15w50 can be used. Correct me if what I was told is incorrect.

Re: Yamaha YZF-R15
Using the same oil throughout the services is definitely the better way . I just wrote the recommended grades. Thats allOriginally posted by Yashas Rl View PostIvin I too had thought any grade of the above mentioned by you can be used but recently when I had a casual talk which my friends who have biking experience like over 5-6years claimed that one a particular grade has to be used and must not be changed from each drain to another as the piston would be set to rotate or move according to the thickness of the oil being used and get used to push and pull at same force so the thickest amongst those three is 20w50 which is usually used for bikes which take much of heating like P220, cbr250 and the like nd R15 is extremely good at aerodynamic and doesnt need such a thick oil and isn't recommended from the company also! Re: Yamaha YZF-R15
In fact , for the R15 V1 the 15W/50 is the right recommended oil but in case of V2 you can switch over to 20W50.
Also, would like to know if anyone has swapped their V1 ECU with V2 ECU would like to know their experiences and naggles faced.

Re: Yamaha YZF-R15
FE: somewhere about 35 to 45 depending upon how u ride...
Service: 505 for engine oil duing warranty period (2 years)
cons: The rear seat. The wrists will be strained initially and then during long rides
But i would simply say go for it.... probably the best machine you can buy today a this price point.
cheers!!Originally posted by xpranav View PostHey guys,

Re: Yamaha YZF-R15
Any specific reasons for this oil grade difference between v1 and v2???Originally posted by shrinathrao View PostIn fact , for the R15 V1 the 15W/50 is the right recommended oil but in case of V2 you can switch over to 20W50.

I mean AFAIK both bike have the same engine internals same crank same gear box so shouldnt the oil be same then???
I have always used motul 20w50 on my v2 and my friend uses motul 20w50 on his v1 we drain oil at 1500-1800 kms but engine sound is same in both
Cheers
