  • Some idea on my bike

    heylo riders
I'm siddarth from Bangalore, owning a two and a half year old Yamaha R15. Love the experience and the ride i have on this extreme machine but unfortunately it met with trouble that the mechanics in the city are finding it difficult to identify. 2months back i got this problem while riding the engine goes off, but then i just left it to take some rest from riding may be because of heavy traffic after transporting it from my home town. then it works fine and all of a sudden i find the bike engine light blinking. it reads '42'. then after showing it to some company mechanic he finds out that there is a problem in the 'ECU'. and he even remarks as this to be the rare problem that they face. and he suggested me to purchase a new ECU (processor of the bike). the ECU alone wil cost me to 10k. and obviously it is very expensive for any person especially me to buy where i doubt that it can spoil again in later future. so i would like some suggestions on this if any1 really have a good idea please help me out on this.
i have got a last doubt on which tyres is best and good accord to its efficiency and performance with size.
    Thank you
    Regards,

If 42 is the correct error code than it points

Error code-42- No normal signals received from the speed sensor

•Open or short circuit in wire harness.
      •Defective lean angle sensor.
      •Malfunction in ECU.

You need to contact your SVC and pressurize them for Diagnostics tool check. In one tour, my bike broke midway in Bangalore and I was perplexed that even best of the SVCs there stay away from using the Diagnostics tool. My bike had coolant temp. sensor problem and I had to repeatedly request one of the SVC to diagnose using Diagnostic tool.

In short, go to SVC, escalate complain to Yamaha India and ask them to diagnose the problem. If the lean angle sensor issue is there than I guess the cost would be less than 1k. In case wiring harness has gone bad, you ll have to shell ~2K. Only when the diagnosis clearly states that ECU is faulty and you have tested it(plonk your friend's R15 ECU and test it for a day or two) than go for ECU change.

        Hello Everyone,
I had a great owning and riding my Red R15 beauty. I bought in Oct 2010.
Recently I am facing an issue. I am not sure if any one of you have experienced the same.

One day while riding suddenly my bike stopped and engine problem yellow light showed up on display. Then display got completely off. I had remote ignition installed on my bike. So I started with that and it worked. Then I took it to service station and they found that one wire was loose inside. So that was minor issue.

Then after few days, my bike's display again didn't lit up when I put my key into it. I tried remote system also which didn't work. Then I had to push the bike to some distance manually while putting it into gear and start the engine. (Same old desi method ) I took again to service station.

They said relay had gone bad. So they changed relay which connects to the ignition. So it worked and I was back home. But after reaching home when I stopped engine and pulled the key out a strange loud noise was coming from bike near engine. It was loud enough to be noticed. And after 15-20 minutes it was fine.
And for next few days same thing happened. After starting bike and riding and then stopping engine, the sound came.

Then one day again Display problem. I thought I should change battery as it was almost 2 and half years that I had not changed it. So I bought new Exide battery and got that installed.
And then Display was again fine.

Now the very next day, I pushed key inside and again the damn display was off....

Now I am not able to figure out the reason for this. This is really frustrating guys. Please help me figure out. Even service guys seem to have no idea.

Shall I get my whole starter/ignition kit replaced?

^^^ remove the remote ignition and try running the bike for a couple of days. If the problem is resolved, it the remote ignition's that's the culprit.

          • Re: Yamaha YZF-R15 - Front Tyres

Hi, I've been riding my R15 (v 1.0) from 2010 and have been extremely happy with it. I am planning to change the tyres now and am unable to find the Zapper FY 80/90 - 17 (stock front tyre) in any of the shops in Bangalore. Could any one confirm if MRF Zapper FY-1 (90/80 - 17) could be used on version one bike without affecting the excellent grip and handling the stock one offers? Thanks.
            Thanks,

Thanks Bro. But I removed the remote ignition system also. Its still not working. One of the guy on xbhp had mentioned about fuse blown issue. I checked that as well. It is fine. I dont know what could be the trouble. Service station is 100 Kms away.
No idea now what to do.
I am scared of showing to local mechanics.

That's the Race Dynamics ECU. You are better off by it from Race Dynamics than from some website.

Hi guys i own a r15 v2 done 29k kms i have a problem. Whenever i start my bike irrespective of a cold start or not i get a slight humming sound coming from the tank/ engine area earlier i thought it to be radiator fan sound but it is different because even if i start my bike for the first time in the morning i get the sound another thing is that if i turn on the lights (hi beam) the sound subsides. The sound is similar to the sound that we hear when we turn on the ignition key keeping the engine switch(red one) in on postion while the speedo and engine check is performed
Is my fuel pump okay (it costs a bomb and i already had it replaced along with a new tank and many more things in a crash)
Guys please help as i had been once saving to get my bike joelled when it crashed and now i had been ready to go for the mods when this issue arised.i hope abhimanyu replies to this iam a great fan of his(iam not undermining the others they too can add)

^^^ if your bike is starting within first one or two ignition starts then the fuel pump is absolutely fine. The fuel pump is not as delicate as its being made out to be. In most cases (I would say 8 out of 10), when the pump is not giving adequate pressure, it's because of clogging due to impurities. A through cleaning with paraffin and compressed air should clear these impurities. However, no one seems to want to do that and the easiest method seems to be replacing the fuel pump.

As far as the noise is concerned, other than the fuel pump, radiator fan and the ignition coil, there is nothing under the fuel tank that has the potential to make any electrically generated noise. Unless you are using HIDs. If you are doing so, then the noise can be from the ballast.

Hi Guys, do you know any place in Chennai where I can get a "rectifier" for R15 (2010 model).

My battery is blown out because of the faulty rectifier, and cannot replace the battery without replacing the rectifier.

I've checked with almost all Yamaha Service/Spares Centers in Chennai, none of them seem to have it.
Even asked them to place an order, but was informed after a month that the order has been put on back order; and they don't know when it'll be shipped.

Calling and complaining to Yamaha Customer Care didn't help

                          pls. help me out.

Got down into parking today morning to buy milk and found out that my R15 was not in parking. When i raised alarm, came to know there are multiple incidents in nearby society.

After much hoopla came to know my bike was parked some 500 meters away from society, on main road. Surprisingly, the handle was unlocked, and both front and back wheels missing.

Both Rims with Disc plates attached, both new tyres, and the Sprocket Driven... Same was the case with some other bikes. A good 20K of loss which money i wanted to invest in gears.

PLEASE guys make sure your steeds are safely parked and protected. Must be some gang operating around. BTW i live in Dhanori, Pune.
