guys need help..........after opening the air filter box for cleaning saw a few amount of oil inside the box
what could be the reason ???...............is piston ring gone
also there is a bit sound change in the engine. my mech and few friends saying the there may be some leek in the air box as the sound is like extra air going inside or like k&n type sound but after inspecting found no leek inside the air box .......... mine is 2009 feb r15 vi ( 20 p1 ) series has clocked 21k kmLast edited by sunny9830687955; 05-20-2013, 02:37 AM.

Re: Yamaha YZF-R15
Hopefully the engine is not yet damaged. Replace the air filter ASAP.
I have seen one such case with wrong installation of K&N and oil entering the box. The engine was dismantled for cleaning but no damage I think.

Re: Yamaha YZF-R15
you guys are not gonna like this, but K&N filter is only good for the areas with no dust in the air. in india, mostly it ends up in damaged valves and seized engines. I know many senior members here, who had their engine seized coz of K&N.
Those who claim it works, good for bike, are the people who live in clean air areas and havn't clocked many kms after installing the K&N.
It does not work in Mumbai, delhi etc. It reduces the piston ring life, damages the valves. only good thing about it is the induction noise. better performance for just few KMS, (that too, mostly psychological)
But is it worth the risk?
Just think guys, why Yamaha hasn't put it in it's R15, KTM in D200/390, kawasaki in Ninja 300 Suzuki in hayaB?
Do you think Rs. 2000 more purchase cost is a deal breaker for the customers of these bikes?
To let in more air, the it compromises the quality of the air. simple logic.
i've seen pulsars, zmas, rtr with seized engines coz of K&N. Stay away.
My funda is, do whatever you want with the exhaust. it's just the waste disposal. don't compromise on the fuel quality and that means AIR+Petrol (or diesel in cars)
have mercy on your bike, if you luv her, and put back the original one.
if you are stubborn about better air flow, go for Simota or cosworth. they provide better filtration that K&N. little less risk.

Re: Yamaha YZF-R15
You will need to get the head and the block checked. It could be either the valves or the piston clearance. The remedy could be something as small and cheap as valve seals/ piston rings to as expensive as replacement of valves/ cylinder and piston.Originally posted by shardul View PostIt's rs. 250 /- if I'm not wrong...

Re: Yamaha YZF-R15
On what basis are they saying so? Did they open the engine or did they just take a look at the smoke coming out of the exhaust and decide to tell you to change the cylinder kit? One cannot say definitively what needs to be done without opening the head and inspecting condition of the internals.Originally posted by shardul View PostWent to service station in gujarat today, they asked to replace the piston and that will costs around 8k..

Re: Yamaha YZF-R15
3 days before, i got my bike fully water washed by removing the fairings *removed the battery connection and covered the wirings*... I got the parts prone to rust sprayed by a rust removal spray and that also included the middle part *non-contact path* of the front and rear disk although some liquid leaked onto the contact patch... From then on, the rear brakes seem marginally less responsive... What might be the problem? Help me out people.. I use a mixture of DOT3 and DOT4 but i am quite sure that it is not relevant to the problem in hand...Wheel was a good invention but two wheels with an engine in between is way better!

Re: Yamaha YZF-R15
The problem is clear within your statement it self, the spary has made its way onto the pads, so it's barely effective now. You can remove it by holding the rear brakes while riding in an open area or remove the pads and rub them against one another for some time, scraping off the top layer a bit , so the fresh pad material is free of the spray. The braking efficiency shoudl return to what it was. If you are not sure of doing it, the svc guys will do it.Originally posted by Adithya LA View Post3 days before, i got my bike fully water washed by removing the fairings *removed the battery connection and covered the wirings*... Exactly that's what I'm thinking I just spoken to service head of gujarat region he ensured me that piston won't damage in early phase of engine and asked me to call once I go to service station..Originally posted by abhimanyu31 View PostOn what basis are they saying so? Thanks Bro! I will try riding while simultaneously applying pressure on rear break...!Originally posted by krish2778 View PostThe problem is clear within your statement it self, the spary has made its way onto the pads, so it's barely effective now. Just be careful not to lock the rear brake. And BTW I wouldn't suggest this method riding on public roads..!!
