    Thnx for the reply,,
They say K&N improves air flow by 300%, so if i am putting it in front of air pipe, with the same amount air as before, i don`t think it can increase air intake,
    Any comments ..?

^^^ What happens to the stock air filter that you propose to use? Air has to flow through both of them. It's not like the K & N is going to let the air flow with 0% resistance. The air will have to flow through both the filter elements, thereby taking a more circuitous route to reach the throttle body. That in turn will lead to a drop in air velocity and air mass. The ultimate outcome will be drop in performance.

The claim of 300% more airflow is with a rider attached to it i.e. as a 'replacement' to stock air filter system and not in congruent with the stock filter.

        • trail braking

          - does anyone here trail brake?
          - how's your experience been?
          - have you ever lost traction?
          - when pushed near the limit, does the r15 front tire (stock) wash-out suddenly or will it give a warning?

i have been practicing cornering on a selection of corners for the last couple of months and have made good progress so far.
on a particular set of 48-52 kmph right-handers i recently tried trail braking and was amazed with the results. i could turn-in quicker, it was smoother and most significantly it was faster by 2-3kmph straightaway! (this when 1kmph improvements have been slow to come).
without trail braking the front feels kinda light & vague at corner entry, but now it feel just right.
only the release of the front brake to on-throttle transition felt awkward but by overlapping those that has got sorted too.

a slightly sliding rear is manageable but i am concerned about the front tire traction.
also, do you think quick flicking is ok with trail braking?

(please note this not a discussion about whether or not we should trail brake.)

          • I am new here but an enthusiast in touring have done a lot of long runs longest of which was about 1000kms in 14hours i have 09 november 20p2 r15...offlatele been hearing a clicking sound from the exhaust of my bike even after short but high speed runs...this sound is similar to the sound emitted by other bikes as their exhaust cools but this is happening since a few weeks for me the bike almost 50000 kms old but runs too good also have got a 7amp vrla battery to support my projector setup which i need since i mostly ride at night and my cone set is also gone long back but have not replaced it since i dont have much time to do so between my college and my touring...its as good as it gets because it still gives newer r15s good competition on highways and also has a better top speed...
Before my doubts please note that my bike is totally stock mechanical wise except for the lights and battery

            My doubts here are
Is the sound from the exhaust normal?
Will the battery create any electrical issues?
My bike is pretty harsh sounding compared to many newer bikes is it because its a 20p2 model or is it because of valve tappets because as far as i recollect i have never got them adjusted till date.?
There is a strong smell of unburnt fuel coming out of the exhaust always be it idle or after a ride? how do i rectify this?
Finally is it advisable to remove the catcon?

              1) the sound might be from a rusted exhaust or check the gasket between the silencer pipe and the head.
2)no battery will not create any problem as long as the projector you have fitted are properly wired, i have heard people using 9 amp battery without any problem.
3)ya try the tappet setting and see if it reduce the harshness ,if the tappet wear is more then you have to change the rocker arm, which are tend to wear. also check your cluth bell the harshness you are talking might be due to it
4)what fuel efficiency are you getting?
5)removing catcon will not increase much performance ,instead of go for aftermarket exhaust system
and do change your cone set it has lot of effect on handling of your bike

                Firstly thanks for your reply...
The sound comes exactly from the silencer unit and not from anywhere near the engine so i really dont know if its cooling off or its a problem because i have not heard these sounds before
Again as you said the clutch bell replacement is a costly affair and i have even realised a difference in sound when i pull the clutch lever while the engine idles on neutral the whole sound of the engine changes ...
Then again i dont know the price of the rocker arm and would be glad to know it if anyone has replaced it as for the tappet its long overdue and will be getting it dont soon
As for the exhaust i dont want an aftermarket because i want the bike to look and sound stock which an aftermarket will ruin
Regarding mileage ...i got the bike in november 09 since the day i got it i have been ripping it as at that time i didnt bother much about running in but i feel the engine has got used to this type of driving style on highways i get an unbelivable mileage of 47 to 48 in city it just drops down to a mere 35 ....many of my friends who used my bike for a couple of days were shocked to see the economy figures and that prompted them to go in for an r15 but i have not once seen a bike give such economy while being ripped

                • Guys, i keeping hearing the term 'coneset', what is it? i can't find any mention of it anywhere in the service manual. is it local term for steering head bearings?

More than 98 percent of convicted criminals are bread eaters !
Statistics show that more than 75 % of violent crimes are committed within 24 hours of eating bread !
Bread is known to be extremely addictive. Subjects deprived of bread and given only water, actually begged for bread after just two days !
Bread has been proven to kill. Scientists have now uncovered alarming evidence that 100% of the people who eat bread will eventually die !

that is the same average i am getting on highways even after ripping it , even i have 20p model,
the clutch bell will cost you about 1400rs + around 1500 for clutch plates set ,i suppose they might have being also worn out at 50k km

these are roughly cost of parts dont know the exact cost pls cheack with service centers!

Guys, in 6th gear will the bike redline? If you're on a straight smooth road with no ups and downs ?
                          Thanks

I don't think a stock bike can, even with a lightweight rider. but if it could then you'd see a speed of around 145 on the speedo. :-)

                              • I have changed my pates twice in the 50k kms i have run but the clutch bell and the cone set never so i guess its time for me to do that
btw suddenly i realised yesterday that if i let go of the handlebar at cruising speeds it wobbles slightly is this because of the cone set or what ??please help me regarding this because at times its scary.
I am running on my third set of stock tires which are the best...recently changed my rear wheel because it got bent as i was riding it with low pressure n hit a speedbreaker but the guy who fixed the fresh tire on the new rim didnt do it properly or what i dont know so every 2 days i have hardly 13 to 14ps in my rear tyre , there is no puncture but then how to fix the air leak any solutions?
anybody crazy about touring ? anyone wishoing to mount phones on the bike for navigation purposes i found a pretty cheap phone mount looks decent i m getting it in a few days just make sure that you have an elastic band around it though for extra safety....and also found some replacement tail lights for our ride i mean a proper led setup getting these both in a week will let u all know how they are
