how are your battery terminal screws, are the facing horizontally or vertically? stock battery of r15,s have terminal screw are vertically fitted.
Still I am happy that R15 V1 supports 5amp. Becuase from past 1 yr my bike is serviced in front of me in every 3k kms. So my bike is running on MINDA 5 amp from last more than 1yr with out any issues.

Below are the pics of the battery and terminals:

When I asked to battery guy about 9amp battery he said, "Bike won't do justice to it. You won't have healthy relationship longer. It will start to show problem in yr or so. "

Really I don't know what R15 V1 is capable of ?? can it support 9 amp charging ?? This can be revealed only by the users of 9amp in R15 only!!

Infact I want R15 to support 9amp, so i can add few more things to it.

    • actually my mechanic had check the readings coming from the r15's charging coil with multi-meter and it is found sufficent to charge a 9 amp battery. but 9amp battery of p220 is too wide and it will not fit in the battery compartment of r15 so we have to try other bikes battery .

Did you check Amaron 9amp battery size ?? Which sunny is using ?

And probably check the TataGreen 9amp too.
I guess you are thinking on projector lights right ?

If R15 V1 Supports 9amp then surely would go for that coming 6-7 months.

        • nope ,but now i am sure that there is surely some 9amp battery that will fit in our bike ! will check it later with the battery seller.

no i am not planning on projector ,but as i am running on dual headlight setup for low and high beam of headlight. so was planning to change both my headlight bulb to 55w philips.

          • @somen1984: Neither the Minda battery nor the new Tata Green battery is 5amps...5L doesn't mean it is 5amps.
Both are 3.5amps only, please check again!

Thanks Bro for correcting even I was confused in this. How come anyone will change my battery to 5amp ??But this is what that TATA GREEN authorized showroom person said.

BTW does all older V1 has MINDA batteries. I know few people who has MINDA as stock in R15V1.

Mine is for Rs 1400/- with exchange of my old battery. But I guess we can bargain more. As it was late night so I din't bargain more for it. Originally it costs some where close to Rs1600. This is Mumbai rate. Price might deffer in your area.

My bike is a 20p1 model (Oct 2008) and it came with tata green battery. I've heard a lot of -ve reviews about Minda batteries. Even one of my friend had a Minda battery and his battery gave up within one year. I changed to Amaron 5amp @ Rs1200 two months ago.

I am using both lights in high and low right from day one. Din't had any issues till 2.5 yrs with MINDA battery.
Even I was looking for AMARON but din't find any at that time, all shops which I visited din't had the stock of 5amp battery. So went with TATA GREEN 5amp, as now R15 comes with TATA GREEN 3.5 amp. So thought it to be more perfect brand battery!

The code is 5L hence sometimes mistaken to be 5amps.
V1s came with Tata Green. Minda started from 2009 ending/2010 IIRC.

                        • Hi Guys,

I have just bought my R15 v2.0 Ltd White and have a few queries regarding the run in period.
My bike has done 190 kms,it revs freely between the 3k-4k rpm range, but then when it increases beyond 4K RPM(4300-4400) ,the engine is not smooth like as it was within the 3K-4K RPM range.
i know the R15 is a rev happy bike but is this the way it will behave during the run in period...am just worried about this.
Please also let me know if the oil and the oil filter has to be changed too.
I have also not crossed the 5K RPM.

It's anew engine. Will take time to set in, so it will be rough till first service is finished.

Spend some time with you machine its just a 190 kms old.. Its a new machine buddy it will take some time to adjust.. Well after run in you need to replace oil as well as the oil filter to it is recommended to change oil filter with oil and since your machine is quite new you have to

Bro don't worry on those terms, as you have time to list it down and speak to SVC on 1st Service.

I would suggest you to follow a run in with some small burst of higher rpms in run in. But remember it should be minimum only.

                                Best of luck!
