Guys i would like to know
1) how much is engine life of a properly maintained and regularly serviced R15?
2)also i have heard that r15,s engine loses compression after 20k km, is that true
3)how much max KM have you guys covered on your R15 without any major or minor overhaul?

if my "2)" doubt is true,will it be wise to sell my R15 after 20k KM;s and go for new one? mine is 20p model 15000km clocked on ODO.

Had an unusual experience this weekend. Started for a place 20 Kms away on Saturday morning. After I reached first signal and stopped, I noticed the throttle response was abrupt. Idle rpm in every gear suddenly rose to 1.8K(just moments ago, idle RPM settled around 1.4K without any tantrums). In addition, bike wouldn't start with normal self and a little throttle. Rather, I had to rev it tad harder in the beginning to start the bike. Confused and speculating about accelerator cable stuck, I went for nearest Yamaha SVC. It was really difficult to ride in stop and go traffic. In first SVC, head mech. wasn't able to diagnose the issue and temporarily reduced the idle RPM. Had a talk with lead mechanic at other SVC, who services R1 and MT01 and has decent experience with all sort of low problems. He suggested something wrong with throttle body and asked me to come to his SVC.
When inspected at next SVC, we found considerable amount of water accumulated in the air box(below the filter). His suspicion was correct. We had to clean the throttle body (and injectors) thoroughly. After the process, the bike was back to normal except for pretty low idle RPM. After raising the idle RPM I headed back home. Checked with watchman about pranksters or any secret downpour in our area that I missed. Was amused to know that he proactively cleaned my bike with strong water jet and targeted the FFE. Though angry, I politely asked him to STAY AWAY from such practices.

Check for air filter and air filter box. Is the console showing Orange(engine malfunction light). Just asking to ensure that throttle position sensor in not popping an error.

1. Have you checked your front forks seals ??
2. Whether any oil is leaking ?
3. how many kms are done till now ?
4. Have any time serviced front fork ?

As far as touring is considered you should check the following things as its 29K km on Odo. things like Cones set , fork oil level, brake pads, swing arm bush, cables, etc should be checked and if need replace them. Also get your battery recharged!

I donno whom you spoke to buddy, but you have clearly been misled.

On the contrary, the stock R15 block - 57mm, starts to loose compression and cylinder sealing after 10-15k kms. Reason? - The R15 has a coated cylinder and the rings are not too tempered to keep the friction low and to prevent the coating from being rubbed away sooner. Result - compression loss, oil seeping and dip in performance. At around the 20k marker, please dyno your bike or do a v-box test and you will be surprised that its much slower than what it came from factory.

Run 29,000 kms. Alot ! I doubt the front fork's been serviced. Have always done the general servicing of the bike. Any other parts that i should change/replace because the no of kms run? Clutch, brake pads, et cetera?

Time has come to update my R15's battery!! Poor me it's only 2.5+ years not even 3 yrs. But have to change it.

Again same issue of self start not working, sounds like krrrrrr...... krrrrrr..... (bike was ideal for 2 days). But bikes starts with a "push-gear-start". Later again if I self start with button then it starts!!

But would be going for 5amp or 9amp battery....still thinking

Someone here reported that he was using the 9 amp battery from past 9-10 months and it din't give any trouble.

But personally I know few R15 owners who are using 5 amp battery in their R15 V1 without any issues.

Same issue with me.. Planning to change the battery.. Let me know what u go in for. Il probably go in for the same. Kuch hua toh eksaath dubenge And you would be buying TATA battery or any other?

Went to SVC and got the bike serviced along with Battery check. He asked me to change it, though when ever bike will run it will get normal charge and work, but due to old age if ideal then battery will drain and won't pull the starter voltage !

I won't be going for Tata but exide only. 5amp costs Rs 1422, but battery man was against putting 5 amp battery in R15. He said think again and let him know. Because he said "I know R15 don't use this battery and if anything happens to your bike electric circuit or Battery then we are not responsible and we won't give the warranty also" ....This is shocking now !! Very tensed.

R15 suitable battery is for Rs 1100 exide. So I am thinking whether to go for it or not ??

What is the stock batery that the r15 uses and its amp ? My bike is out of warranty period so im not concered with that.
