It went well for 1 day and discharged the very next day, Prompting me to believe the battery isn't charging at all. I checked through the service manual and zeroed in on the rectifier/regulator, thinking that maybe the regulator is done for. Despite replacing the RR unit, the voltage across the battery terminals is still 12.8v at 5000rpm, which is not what its supposed to be. The service center guys say because I am using a 5Ah battery, its charging at 3.5Ah, but discharging at 5Ah, hence its not working properly. Else the battery and the RR unit is fine.

Anybody faced similar issues? Because I know a few people here are using 5Ah batteries, and they were working without any issues AFAIK. Please help guys. I'm really challenged when it comes to electrical analysis/repairs.
Guys, some help with this please?
    You get the point?? :D

    • Hello all,
my bike is running harsh from past 2-3 weeks. changed engine oil just 1000 kms back and the oil has come down noticeably. is it normal? the engine sound has changed drastically from past 3-4 weeks. as i didn't have time to go to ASC, i took it to a local mechanic on a weekend. he told that the rings have become week and i need to change engine oil every 1000 kms or else i'll need to go for reboring. is it really true? my bike has run just 37300+ kms in 2.5 years. i have maintained my bike quite well and i'm astonished to hear what the local mechanic said. what might be the problem? please help.
      Thanks in advance.
A crash on d road may kill d biker n d bike, but d relationship btwn d bike n d biker never dies.

Its only next to d relationship btwn d mother n her baby.

I'm running on Amaron 5Ah battery, and things are fine. First thing to know, 12.8v at 5000rpm is with load or without load? Voltage drops with load.

You need a better mechanic, there is no way to know if your rings are weak just by audibly inspecting the bike. Is it the tappet noise by any chance?

Clutch slipping is usually associated with wrong grade of engine oil and clutch plates going kaput. How many kms have you done on your R15? Usually a well maintained R15 clutch plates have surpassed 38k kms without any problems.

            Cheers,

the odo shows -18 k. i have this habit of overusing the clutch. the bike has not been in use for over a year. as soon as i came back to india i changed the oil with the normal one supplied by yamaha. i am also thinking on the lines of opening up the clutch and cleaning the clutch and friction plates. the major hurdle is there is a special tool required for openeing up the clutch. i dont have it. will have to order one from yamaha.

                    Same situation - 3 years, 11 months.

                    Just replaced with a Amaron Probiker 5Ah MF battery - 1100 bucks. 24 + 24 months warranty.

Just need to remove the foam at the bottom and modify the terminal clamps a bit.

I changed the clutch basket myself at home last weekend. The center nut needs a tool called the clutch basket holder. But, I could manage without that. Just locked the bike in gear and used the rear brake to hold the clutch basket from rotating.

But for just changing only the plates/springs, no extra tool is needed at all.

Its without any load. Bike is just running without lights or anything else, held constant at 5k rpm.

                      • I own a 2011 yamaha r15 v1 . the bike has done 5200km and i have just loved every km. However for the past some time the bike is not performing at its full potential and this really concerns me.
I am having two problems with my bike:

                        1) The chain on my bike keeps getting loose too frequently. First it used to get loose within 200km of riding but now it would be loose within 30km. Just 4 days ago i took my bike to the SC, had the chain lubed and tightened, however it was loose again within one day (the chain touches the Swingarm). yesterday I took my bike back to the SC and the mechanic had a look at it. the mechanic rather unconvincingly concluded that the chain had bends in it and has to be replaced ( costs 2.6k) . I am not saying that the mechanic is duping me but I am not sure if they are properly qualified. Anyway, I have no other option since this workshop is the only yamaha SC within 300km.
I have got it serviced regularly. Should the bike chain give up just within 5200km?

                        2) The bike just does not feel smooth and the exhaust sounds a bit harsh. Even when the bike chain is tight, it only revs upto 9000 rpm in 5th gear , which limits the top speed to 117km/hr while the bike used to hit 130km/hr.

With the little knowledge I have about engines, I think this is happening due to a loss of compression in the engine due to a change in valve clearance (or the tappets need adjusting). Maybe the exhaust valve is too tight and as a result there is not enough compression and a loss of power at the top end. i am concerned that this may result in a damaged exhaust cam and the cylinder head might have to be replaced!

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Since you already changed the rectifier, check if the harness which connects the stator coil to the rectifier is secured properly. You'll find this cable coming out of the Left Hand Side Crankcase, and this goes into another socket which connects near the coolant tank.

If that's fine too, take a multi-meter and check the stator coil itself. It's a three-phase coil with delta. More on that: three phase coil deltsa - Google Search

If your chain is worn out, it will be stiffer at some place, and softer at other places. That still doesn't explain why it's loosening itself.

Did you adjust your tappets? Because values/tappets don't tighten themselves. Compression loss never really occurs with valves.

Get the rubber bushings replaced which are enclosed in the rear tyre (the drum part where the rear sprocket is attached). It is not expensive and all the problems that you have described above will vanish. Let me know if this helps!

                              • Has anybody, recently, replaced the chain and sprocket of R15 v1? I heard the prices have come down.
                                Mine is 2008 R15 V1 with 14/42 front-rear sprocket ratio.
