Re: Yamaha YZF-R15
Before changing the rings, ask them to do a compression test. You need to change the rings only if the compression values come below the recommended service values.Originally posted by rosher rider View PostDone 34000 kms on r15. No mod exept k&n filter(universal cone).
Major service @ 28000kms.
Using motul 300V since 15000kms.(change interval- 3k kms)
The matter is , Is anything special to be done now for engine. No white smoke yet,but workshop guy told me to change piston rings. Any help/advise from members is appreciated.

Re: Yamaha YZF-R15
Thank bro
Will Surely ask them to do compression test.
Moreover i am riding with orignal front tyre need to replace it now .It may burst as ot is more prone to punctures. Should i go for stock one or there are some other good tyre from outside ?

The stock tyres are the best. Nothing like them if you are successful in sourcing them.Originally posted by rosher rider View PostThank bro

Re: Yamaha YZF-R15
Hey guys, my R15 V1 has done 66k kms and Ive got to change the tires..
Do they still make the oem mrf tires or do I have to make do with some other tires?
Read somewhere they dont manufacture these tires anymore.
And if thats the case, any other good alternatives ? Please advise. Thanks.

Re: Yamaha YZF-R15
Hello guys I owned a R15 2008 model and right now it has done 33K Kms in last six years and I had Leh'd twice on it. Now I need some suggestions from you guys;
1) its clutch plates needs to be replaced as I felt lack in power on higher RPMs even its top speed is also decreased and its clutch housing makes noise too, I read somewhere on xBHP that some fault in Clutch Bell bush makes that noise. So guys if Clutch Bell bush is the fault for making that noise and it really needs to be replaced then please post its picture as the Yamaha dealer here in Jalandhar is unable recognise the part. Not even mechanics don't know about it.
2) On my last Leh trip while returning I felt some missing in the engine while riding uphill and it also shoots some fire from its silencer in short intervals. I discussed about it with my Mechanic (trained from Yamaha Factory), first he told me that its an problem in spark plug and on my second call he said its an fault in Fuel Injector and it needs to be clean. I never ever get my bike's injector cleaned as the dealer told me that there's no way to treat the injector of R15. But from last six months I didn't experience anything like that with the same injector and spark plug installed. Right now I had ordered a bottle of ABRO injector cleaner for petrol engines from internet as there's no such product available in our town and cleaners like 3M and Iftex are not available anywhere on internet not even in the market. Please suggest me, Does any liquid cleaner really makes the difference? Any other treatment for injector?
3) Which is the best rear tyre for R15 to ride it in the offroad conditions without loosing its power? Currently I am using the stock tyre in my bike but these tyres aren't good in icy roads and this year I am again going to Spiti with my friends
so I want to change the tyre with an offroad one. Any suggestion? I was considering Ceat Vertigo Sport 120/70 R17.
Please suggest me on these queries.

Suggestion: Get the clutch plates check. R15 2008 that means its a 20P1 model and I dont beleive the cluthc plates can go so fast. So you need to check if its loose.

Suggestion: injectors can be cleaned there are many injector cleaners which you can even mix with in fuel tank and ride. Other method is to put in a extra premium (if you are using normal fuel) OR 97 fue (if you already use extra premium). See if you find any improvement

Re: Yamaha YZF-R15
Yes you're right, I should go for inspection in SVC at first for the clutch plates!! But what about clutch bell bush, is it needs to be replaced or not? what about that weird noise?Originally posted by Shivanshu View PostThe suggestions are in bold.
I am already using the premium petrol in my bike. The overall performance is little bit down after returning from my previous trip; like bike is running 75-78 Km/h @ 6K RPMs in 6th gear on speedo previously it was 85-90 Km/h @ 6K RPMs in the same gear.Suggestion: injectors can be cleaned there are many injector cleaners which you can even mix with in fuel tank and ride. Actually I need a rear tyre that fits in offroading, using the stock tyre on icy roads or in snow is a nightmare!! last year I fallen for two times on the road at the speed of 5-10 Km/h all because of stock tyre. It just skids while riding downwards in snow or icy road. I know the MRFs are best in normal conditions but not for offroading.Suggestion: injectors can be cleaned there are many injector cleaners which you can even mix with in fuel tank and ride. --> The clutch bell can be tightened if loose, there is a bit of noise in all R15s but nothing to worry about. I got my clutch changed at 60K that also doing numerous trips in hills in almost every weather. So if the noise is a bit then be it..... some noise can be tolerated. as R15s have a tendency for noisy clutch bells after sometime... so nothing to worry about

--> Do get the injectors cleaned by telling your SVC for some add-on injector cleaners. Also get the air filter changed and check if your idling has changed as well. Also I would suggest when the tank is coming to empty sign, then fill 5 lts of octane97 and ride the bike normally as you do. and once in reserve again then go ahead and tank up with extra premium. And then check what change do you observe. I hope the chain set is doing alright and the tyre pressure are also as per instructed. 28psi front & 33psi rear.

--> for tyres I would still suggest stock as I know it goes very well on tarmac and even well on offroad to a limit. I have done tours in rainy season in hills and the stock are very comfortable for me atleast. Also since i use the bike extensively for city commuting so I think stock is best. Fitting any offroad tyres or any different tyre size changes the whole functionality of the bike. DONT FORGET AFTER TESTING FOR 7 DIFFERENT TYRES YAMAH GAVE A GREEN LIGHT TO THESE TYRES. Though rest is on you. I have the FOURTH SET OF STOCK TYRE ON MY BIKE
All the Best and keep us postedLast edited by Shivanshu; 06-28-2014, 04:13 AM.

Re: Yamaha YZF-R15
Ceat Vertigo in stock size 100/80x17 should work fine for offroading. Some members have used it for hills, but switched back to stock MRF after coming to plains.

Re: Yamaha YZF-R15
Ok I will get the injector cleaned from SVC in next weekend. And yes usually I clean the air filter after completing 1000 Kms and get it changed after every 3000 Kms. I got my chain set replaced before my last trip even the tyre pressure is also perfect. And engine idling is set at 1.1K RPMs after warm up. Rest I'll post the SVC report about the clutch plates and injector. I hope they'll detect the fault, but I doubt the dealer in here don't have any fuel injector cleaning machine as he told me earlier that they don't treat the injector instead they replace it with new. And octane 97 is not available in our town only xtra premium or Speed are available in here.Do get the injectors cleaned by telling your SVC for some add-on injector cleaners. Re: Yamaha YZF-R15
^^Your best option is to remove the injector, it's quite simple and take it to a place with an injector cleaning machine, will cost you only 250, also check the condition of your chain and sprockets, may need changing. One more thing is the rubber bushes that fit in the rear rim which drive the rear sprocket can get worn and affect performance. Change your air filter while you're at it.Beware of Bread, don't say I didn't warn you!
