  • Re: Yamaha YZF-R15

I am feeling vibrations on the handlebar of my R15 v1. The bike has clocked close to 29k kms. The service center is unable to rectify my problem. the engine also appears to be a bit harsh. the piston is making a "thud-thud"sound with every move. The smoothness, which used to be there with the bike is almost lost.
What can be the possible issues?

Could be worn rocker arms or possibly block/piston, consuming oil?

No oil consumption. The ride is jerky now. Engine jerks in between while riding on a constant speed in mid range. I have got a leo vince exhaust (full system) installed. The jerking has started after installing the exhaust.

You are running a touch lean, if you can get hold of an yamaha fid, if you can find a service centre that has one, also block of the ais to prevent any popping.

Check if the thud thud sound goes away when you press the clutch lever if it goes away then its a clutch housing/ bell issue else as other members quote could be a bent rocker or some other issues

Check your clutch bell. My bike too had the same issue. Vibrating a lot. Also check the tappets. Too loose tappets can be an issue.

Iam trying to source R15 V1 Stock tyre (MRF 100/80/17 Zapper-S) in Bangalore and still no luck.
MRF dealers are stating that company has stopped manufacturing these tyres as there were lots of complaints like soft rubber/fast wear out (within 8000 kms)/prone to punctures after 7k kms.

MRF dealers are suggesting alternate tyres like
                    MRF VYDE 120/80/17
                    MRF Zapper 100/90/17
                    MRF Zapper 120/80/17
FZ Front tyre for r15v1 rear

I feel stock tyre does its best and cannot compromise with any other specs. Any R15V1 owners have experienced the same issue in sourcing the tyres.

Please let me know if any dealers has the Zapper-S tyre in stock or if not what would be best suggested alternate option for the replacement.

Using 130/70-R17 MRF REVZ on my v1 from around an year. It is a direct fit on v1. It niether touches the chain cover nor the swing arm, even in case of a puncture. It is the one which comes stock on v2. Same gripping and handling as the stock one. Wider section provides more traction under hard braking.

How much is the drop in mileage? If any.
My V1 tyres are worn and I need some suggestions on what is good as the stock tyres are unavailable.

Negligible drop in mileage. Though i never tried to calculate the difference, but i previously used to get 35-40 kmpl and after changing tyres i am still getting 35-40 kmpl.

Is the engine making any strange noises when u slow down? If yes, is the noise predominant on only one side(left or right)

No strange noise. Only vibrations on the handle bar. Although, i am facing missing issues on low rpms.
Someone said that the front suspension needs to be replaced, as it is "bubbling". Can someone please ellaborate this?

Mine had a similar problem, it started with vibrations and then the thud sound, I could feel the piston hitting when I sat on the bike. Then it started making a soft noise in the left side.
Crank shaft bearing was worn out, the shaft on which armature is mounted was wobbling.
Replaced the bearings and it was smooth as new.
