  • R15 fuel consumption.... efficiency!

Guys, I wanted to check the fuel consumption on my two weeks old machine (250kms done). Taking help of the "F" indicator, my average efficiency turns out to be 48kmpl.

I'm sure there's no error in calculation; also, I understand there are chances of slight variations/error in the fuel indicator. Still, how erratic would the fuel indicator be? The mech at the showroom said I may expect around 30 kmpl initially and 40+ after 3rd servicing.

    Calculation:
    Distance travellled: 246- 83= 163 kms; (Final "F" - Initial "F" readings)
    Petrol filled: Rs.200 => Rs.200/Rs.59 per litre= 3.39 litres;
    FE: 163/3.39 = 48.08 kmpl

What's the max FE you've been experiencing?

Max I've ever gotten was 53. It was right after my first service and I was keeping it below 5k at all times. Did a tankup right after first service and reset the trip1 meter to 0, then rode for 100 kms and tanked up again. GOT 53KMPL :P

1 big problem guys. I lent my bike to my cousin as his car went for service and he needed a vehicle to commute for a day. I told him to refuel asap as my reserve meter had run 53kms by then. He said that He'll put some gas in her. But when he came to return her he told that he forgot to put gas in her in the morning and the tank got empty and then he fueled up. I was really mad at him coz Shivanshu bhai had told me NEVER to let the bike run dry, and my dear cousin did that for me . I went to a petrol bunk and filled in 100bucks worth gas myself for my satisfaction and the fuel meter at present is showing 3 lines.

Now the problem. I experience a lag in fuel delivery sometimes. I mean when I'm keeping the throttle pinned at around 4k, sometimes the bike's rpm kinda drop for a fraction of a second and then get back to normal. It is kinda like the engine is starving for fuel (exactly what you feel in other bikes when they hit their reserve and you have to turn that knob around). Have I screwed up my fuel injection ??

A good long ride can clear your mind, restore your faith, and use up a lot of fuel.

        I suggest, avoid it!
It's good, if you want your bike to sound good, but if you're expecting some sort of gain in performance, you might be disappointed.
This is just my personal opinion/experience. No Offense to anybody!
Don't know buddy the R15's you ride are in what condition but after installing K'N my bikes performance is increased.its not like its performing like R1 but yes marginal increase is there. K'N is not a local company man its K'N leaders in performance air filters.

i tried keeping my heel on the footrest and toe on the lever but its very uncomfortable and also leads to me pressing the brakes unknowing ...

to be precise, when we are going say at 50-60kmph, when i give it a full throttle, the test ride bike gave a positive jerk, i could feel an immense response/pull from the engine..
but my bike isn't so, in the same scenario, if i give a full throttle, it doesn't give any jerk, it pulls, but slower.
has done 2.6k till now, 2nd servicing due soon..
btw is there anyway we can confirm that the performance is upto the mark except dynos?? just to be sure i've got an R15 engine only and not a souped up pulsar !!!
more inputs would really be appretiated..
had taken her for speed runs..reached 111kmph sitting straight, 122 leaning on the tank..could go more but ran out of road
actually the road way quite wavy although smooth, travelling at 100+, i was jumping as if i was on a horse!! i guess that too affects the speed right?
..though it felt smoother after the runs but still it lacks that response...
btw- redlined it in 2nd gear, got 65kmph, 91 in the third..
p.s. didn't change the oil yet, 2nd service due 1st week next month.
after monday and tuesday, even the calendar says WTF!!

jetting is the procedure of changing the fuel jet to a bigger one in carburetor operated engine....In R15 jetting cannot be done as it is the fuel injected bike with ECU that cannot be reprogrammed..
I heard that if we unplug the battery and plug it again after 15 minutes the ECU of the bike automatically adjusts the AFR in R15??? Is it wrong?
Fun begins only after 6K rpm.....!

Did you simply install the filter or have you done anything with the bike's ECU and battery?

I have not heard about it..But if it happens then it is not jetting...in jetting the jet is replaced with a bigger jet...In fuel injected system we need the technology like Toyota VVT which means Variable Valve Timing that adjusted itself according to the requirement...

It's your personal opinion, and I shall respect it.
As you've read/know here, that we have a Open loop system. It does not change the AFR. You're engine is sucking in more Air, and less fuel is being shot into the engine and you're running lean. I'm not saying there won't be an increase in perfomance, there might be. I didn't ride/drag with a Stock R15 nor have I done top speed runs on the K&N. But, you can do so..however immature it might seem you can and post some figures?

Both the R15s I rode were in good condition. The first one was just 7500kms old and the owner maintains it really well..
Yes brother, I know about K&Ns. Works very well on 600cc and litre class bikes( Works very well on the the 150cc and 200cc bikes here too if installed "properly" and not just plugged and played). Never "Exactly" seen a Bike without K&Ns,Racefits,Yosh, etc back home!

                            Oh guys, need help
When is the fork oil supposed to be changed? When the oil seal leaks( Don't want to wait for that) or during some specific interval. One year and almost 20,000kms. Is it time?

speed bursts are not like doing top end in higher gear rather its using hard acceleration under lower gear and hard engine breaking from higher gear..

do couple of times, once or twice wont make much of a difference..

Secondly, do these runs with a warm engine and please do check your air filter too (is it cleaned properly ?) and have you checked for wheel play (if the wheels are spinning freely or not ??)
                              Catch me @ Orkut..

shift gears at 9k rpm to get the top whack
