It's good, if you want your bike to sound good, but if you're expecting some sort of gain in performance, you might be disappointed.
This is just my personal opinion/experience. No Offense to anybody!
Nice to share this info, guess i planned to install. i like the sound mainly so i thought of installing it. Ok tel me what else like as u said a PROPER fix must be done to get it the right KN way..?

I'm sure there's no error in calculation; also, I understand there are chances of slight variations/error in the fuel indicator. Still, how erratic would the fuel indicator be? The mech at the showroom said I may expect around 30 kmpl initially and 40+ after 3rd servicing.

    Calculation:
    Distance travellled: 246- 83= 163 kms; (Final "F" - Initial "F" readings)
    Petrol filled: Rs.200 => Rs.200/Rs.59 per litre= 3.39 litres;
    FE: 163/3.39 = 48.08 kmpl

What's the max FE you've been experiencing?
Don all the time rely on the F coz some time it may appear for certain kms and then vanishes, again pops up(not always). yes u can expect in and around 40 after ur 3rd service, only if your initial ride conditions were in a proper 40-60 kmph mark(what i experienced)

    • Free radiator replacement

hey guys,i just went along with my frnd to the Yamaha showroom on thursday to leave his R15 for service. While returning they said that they have changed the radiator free of cost. We asked them was it required and y free?(the recall dint flash in my mind at that moment) they said its a company recommended to change due to some probs.

I read bout this recall more than a month ago over here and y are these people changing only for certain people, even i serviced my bike last week they dint change for me, and when i asked this time with my frnd they said bring it on monday we shall change. i dono whats there prob to change.

Do any of you over here got a free replacement on CALL???

*Not recommended in a FI vehicle and should have minimum of 10-15% fuel wrt to its capacity.
But the problem I'm facing is that even after filling her up, she hesitates sometimes to revv. It's like I'm pinning the throttle at around the 6k mark and she's ok, and all off a sudden she starts to act as if I've let go of the throttle and the rpms decline to 5.5k, then she's back to normal again. All this hoopla happens just for a couple of secs, but these secs can sometimes be crucial (like you've just scored a knee down and are now exiting the turn, you open up the throttle to get the bike back up straight. What if this throttle lagging thingy happens then?? )

Also, My bike has done about 4.5k kms and is 5 months old. She does not get many off days. I use her for my regular commutes to office everyday, so it aint like she's been sitting stale for long periods. Even on days when I dont ride her, I crank her up twice a day. Should my fuel injectors be clogged so soon???

I've been using normal fuels (No extra mile/premium fuels)
A good long ride can clear your mind, restore your faith, and use up a lot of fuel.

as sheelpriye said, get your injectors cleaned...
there could be some unwanted stuff at the bottom of the tank which got into the fuel pump, injector assembly...
nothing more than that would have happened..
just take her to the svc, tell them your problem, don't tell them how it happened..see what they say, act accordingly..don't delay showing it to them, even the manual says, if the bike misfires, don't ride even one more km, take it to the svc right away!

edit: one more reason for not giving bike to friends..

Just a personal point, i too think bro, something is wrong with either of below things

            * Throttle body / fuel injector
            * Fuel Pump
            * Fuel filter (needs replacement maybe)

Running with low amount of fuel can cause these issue since pump and injector can suck in those derby in slow level of petrol
            Catch me @ Orkut..

the replacement is only for those batches which had radiator mounted horns, which made them to leak, you don't have one...
one more way to confirm it is that when you sit on the bike, the radiator cap should be on your right, that's the new one..

edit: some owners recently got messages from yamaha, keep yourself posted..

                • Yesterday @ 6am, me and my friends left for a McDonalds outlet on the Mysore- Bangalore highway for breakfast. On Sundays, the roads are empty and there is a lot of mist early mornings and the ride is awesome fun. The total distance to and fro would be approximately 200kms. I clocked the highest ever achieved speed on my bike, i.e. 145kmph, on a gradual downward slope of a straight stretch of road, with a fully crouched body posture and head below the windscreen. The bike was constantly accelerating from 126kmph onwards on the 6th gear and reached the 145 mark without showing any signs of slowing down

Damn happy with my bike. She never says NO I was at the 5800kms mark when I left and now its at 6k. Gonna leave her for service today. I'm gonna get the Yamalube Semi-Synth oil since I dont want FS right now and Yamalube doesn't void the warranty like the SVC claimed. Anything else I should be taking care of?

Oh yeah, I had gone for the ride with two superbikes. One on a CBR600RR and another on a CBR954RR fireblade. Damn it, realised how small my bike is compared to theirs. At 145kmph, the CBR600 pulled next to me, the guy looked at me all crouched, smiled, downshifted and shot past to a whopping 220kmph! lol

All I could do was stroke my baby and whisper,''She might have bigger boobs, but you have personality''

As you've read/know here, that we have a Open loop system. It does not change the AFR. You're engine is sucking in more Air, and less fuel is being shot into the engine and you're running lean. I'm not saying there won't be an increase in perfomance, there might be. I didn't ride/drag with a Stock R15 nor have I done top speed runs on the K&N. But, you can do so..however immature it might seem you can and post some figures?

Both the R15s I rode were in good condition. The first one was just 7500kms old and the owner maintains it really well..
Yes brother, I know about K&Ns. Works very well on 600cc and litre class bikes( Works very well on the the 150cc and 200cc bikes here too if installed "properly" and not just plugged and played). Never "Exactly" seen a Bike without K&Ns,Racefits,Yosh, etc back home!
my bike is not running lean if it is my mileage should have been increased but its not. and top end should also decreased but again its not i have top end of 142km/hr on straight leveled road with K'N.. no offence

well get it checked with SVC for any damage done to the FI system while running her dry. Just dont tell them how it happened, tell them all of a sudden it happened. Also if you can fill her up to the top (full tank) and try riding then. But IMO you should just go to the SVC guys and get the problem rectified ASAP to cause any further damage.

^^ true man, i realize how sensitive our baby is..
but i keep myself happy thinking that it is the best in its class and above! it is comparable with a 220cc bike in terms of performance, in terms of technology involved, with all the beasts in the world..
a wee bit more from yamaha would have really been appreciated though...

i guess you meant motul doesn't void the warranty as the svc claimed..the svc put yamalube by default!

                            • Just got my bike's air filter cleaned by myself. Had a 250 km ride yesterday and i wasn't able to find the crisp throttle response as earlier and i have to tell you that i live in an extreme dusty condition. MY bike is only 4500 km done. But i have to say this guys... Now the bike is like tempting to wring the throttle. The service manual says that air filter should be cleaned on every service. But i haven't seen that done in any of my service. Everybody has to do that.. I think so.. Right guys?
If you need a reason to ride, you are not on the right bike.
