would the owners be kind enough to answer my query?
No its not about speed, its about turning and shifting those gears!

      Unnecessary!

      Thanks guys,

@Kwokfist: i am sure the clutch plates are of top quality, my question is in general, does the top speed suffer because of it being from FZ. I am more or less inclined towards an JOELLED R16 wrt honda cbr 250r. and i guess the warranty & insurance will go for a toss..

      • New buy suggestions

Hi everyone. My first post on this forum. Been reading all the info i can find and learning for my first bike purchase I'm dead set on getting the R15. And I've a few questions :

        First my requirements :
Will be driving around 35-40 kms a day. Half of it highway half city. I leave really early in the morning for work so you can say i'll be driving fast most fo the time.
My height is 5'11" and i'm of average build. Don't know if that is important but including it anywyz

        Now the questions :

        1) What are the things to look out for when getting your first bike?
        2) Anything to look for specific to the R15?
        3) I'm not sure whether i should be going for the stock one or getting any upgrades. The Joel edition looks way cool but then again i don't know if i should invest that much on the first day i get my bike. Suggestions?

Basically what i want to know is what's the recommended "things to do" when i buy the bike. I'm looking at getting it mid-Feb.

Also need to know what gear to buy with the bike.

        Thanks in advance.

You will for sure enjoy her on the open highways more than in the city. Throw in a few twisties to make it even better!

Your height is just about fine.
          Now the questions :

          1) What are the things to look out for when getting your first bike?
Nothing much really, just check that the body is fine and engine oil is up to the mark and the tyre pressure is correct.
          2) Anything to look for specific to the R15?
Not that I can think of.
          3) I'm not sure whether i should be going for the stock one or getting any upgrades. The Joel edition looks way cool but then again i don't know if i should invest that much on the first day i get my bike. Suggestions?
I would suggest, ride around for around 10k kms and get to know her better. This way, you would appreciate the mods even more!

Just follow the rpm recommendations during run in.
Also need to know what gear to buy with the bike.

          Thanks in advance.
          My replies in bold.

          @all -

My bike has been making significant vibes in the 4k-6k rpm region nowadays. This is becoming too irritating day by day. I just dont know what could be the cause - the chain is properly oiled and tightened, engine mountings are all tight.

The vibes are felt mostly from the tank/footpegs. Also, from 7k and up or below 4k rpms, she behaves smoothly.

The engine also makes a slightly gruffy sound at these 4k - 7k rpms - initially I thought it to be the sprocket sound but oiling the chain made no difference to it. So I think it must be from the engine.

BTW, this is happening on Motul 300V 15W50 oil!

          Help!!!

overall looks seem nice , i never liked the R6 headlamp. Overall the bike looks nice . Looks like quite a lot of weight is added on in terms of cosmetic changes .
Guess we'll have to wait and see .

even though it looks nice, i'd say that r15 have lost its uniqueness among r series. now r125, r6 and r15, all look similar. this just increases the poser value.

                        • For those looking for LE R15s, it is available at a Yamaha dealer in Bangalore (I don't know about other dealers).
& yes, it is the original LE, with white rims. If the dealer is to be believed, Yamaha had stopped making these a few months back, but have restarted making & dispatching the LEs to dealers.
Drop me a PM for details.

Also, the showroom owner was aware of a new R15 (courtesy the spy pics all over the net), but there is no communication yet from Yamaha to its dealers regarding an upcoming revamped R15.

The supply of all Yamaha bikes (even the 100 odd cc ones) is currently in a pathetic state. Maybe its to do with efforts being put in at the new R15, & other new bikes.
The dealer told me that Yamaha will launch 3 two-wheelers (not CKD/CBU) this year. But he had no clue which segment they would belong to.

                          My views on the YZF-R15 V2.0: http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/news/198...tml#post699240

The pleasure is when your rear wheel slides, and you bring it back; and when the front wheel lifts, you take your time bringing it back.

                            • lets hope they don't jack up the prices to 1.5lks... otherwise my plans will go for a toss..

if they do.. i will then have to look for older unsold models from dealer or worse 2nd hand
