The manual says somewhere that we shouldnt roll or tow the bike over a long distance with the engine off since the oil circulation system wont run and it could damage the transmission system among other parts.Originally posted by Prakritij View Post

My bike has covered around 12k and I am planning to go for following checks or replacement in the 7th servicing
1) Air Filter ,
2) Spark Plug,
3) Valve Clearance check,
4) Wheel alignment ,
5) Fork Alignment (tortured my bike on recent off road trips),
6)Swing Arm lubrication with lithium soap,
7)Oil Filter change (didn't change at 10k mark),
8) Switching to 15W50 300V (used 5W50 from 5k onwards and its Hyderabad summer already),
9)Steering bearings with lithium soap based grease,
10)Tappets adjust,
11) Mag wheel bends check (losing air pressure more often),
12) Visor vibrations (need a perm. solution)
and rest servicing stuffs.
My queries-
1) Spark Plug- Its still going good and didn't face any problem. Shall I continue or replace it with new one and keep this as a spare one. Also what gains NGK IR give over stock spark plug one. Don't know much about spitfire cable. Enlightenment
,
2) Valve clearance and tappets adjustment- Haven't gone for either till now. How important are these and what is the frequency,
3) Swing Arm lubrication and Steering bearings with Lithium soap based grease. Haven't been through in last 6 services. Enlightenment
4)Visor vibrations- Tried double sided tape and rubber padding. But after sometime vibrations creep in. Any permanent solution,
5) Switching from 300V 5W40 to 300V 15W50 with Oil filter change. What impact will this change have.Had no troubles with 5W40. Just that I want to try 15W40
6)I stay at Hyderabad and personally found Pearl Yamaha SVC substandard
. Not much option though but which SVC is recommended here at Hyd.
Is there something else I need to take care of.
(Please bear with me if a similar query have been asked previously. Checked the Ownership thread but its a gigantic thread and couldn't get my query resolved)Last edited by Juris; 01-22-2011, 12:59 PM.

where exactly are the vibes coming from... as in, which part of the fairing?.

I too am facing vibe problem, but from the visor and not the fairing.Originally posted by xionite View Postwhere exactly are the vibes coming from... as in, which part of the fairing?
I touch the visor and it stops. Have tightened the nuts (not tightly as it rests on rubber) and the mirror nuts, but still to no avail.
@Juris-Change spark plugs either at 10,000 kms or per year, whatever comes first.
If you change oil with a different grade/make (both) change the oil filter too.

"Fairing Vibrations" Sorry for the typo. Visor is the spoil sport. Even I touch the visor and the vibrations stop.Originally posted by sheelpriye View PostI too am facing vibe problem, but from the visor and not the fairing.

Yes I am planning for Oil filter change as well.

the visor needs to be fit properly onto the inside of the fairing.
have u been having the issue since u bought the bike?
and has the fairing/visor been opened ever?

PIC HOSTED ON TINYPIC
also... since the mirror nuts are fastened into the R15 stay... they're prolly not the issue..

One of my lug (at the top, circular one) has broken itself while repeatedly taking out the visor (while trying to give it a *tinted* look). Have got over that fix (it stays clear) and if nothing works, I might contemplate a change.
Shall work on it in a day or two. (Would be getting the brakes bled and the brake-shoe changed from non OE to OE). Would work on it the same day.
Thanks Xionite
You have been of help.

thanks for posting that pic buddy.....my visor seemed to be not properly fixed onto the front cowl, will take it all apart and fix it back tomorrow
I need instructions on how to access the front sprocket. It has never been cleaned in 7k kms and I think I might give it a try.

Do these by all means: 1, 2, 6, 7, 11, 12Originally posted by Juris View PostMy bike has covered around 12k and I am planning to go for following checks or replacement in the 7th servicing
You might not need the following - don't do them unless they are needed: 3, 5, 9
Both these mean the same: 3, 10
You might not need these: 4, 8
Change the spark plug. With an Iridium plug you might feel a slight improvement in pickup at higher speeds due to very less number of misfires that an Iridium plug causes in comparison with a Nickel plug. Most of the time you won't even feel that.

Misfiring on startup
Hi guys,
My bike is misfiring on starts. It happens when the engine is cold...like say... i am starting it the next day. I let her idle for 2-3 minutes while i clean her. If i rev it (steady climb to 4k) on neutral, i can hear misfires. Also for the next 5-10 minutes of riding, there are misfires. After that there are almost none.
I went to the SVC as the manual says not to drive the bike for even a KM if this is happening. Both the mechanic and his supervisor could not find why this is happening let alone fix this. All they told me that they have ordered an air breather part and they'll replace mine when it comes.
Has anyone ever experienced misfires on your R15? What could be causing this ?
BIKE STATS -
Purchased and serviced at Delhi Scooters Yamaha, Delhi
2800 km done
1st service @ 800 km - Yamalube SS
2nd Service @ 2500 km - Yamalube SS
Also, the bike makes a fast, intervaled, turbine (ghaun-ghaun) like sound at 5-6k RPM. After that i cant hear it ... maybe because the engine's revving sound masks it at RPM > 7k. One finding i did was that if i rev it to 6k while idle, the engine note is just fine and there's no horrific sounds. Can you please help me with this?

As the first step, replace the spark plug and see. Also check that the cable from ignition coil to the spark plug is fine.Originally posted by bhavandeepsingh View PostHi guys,

AFAIK, that turbine-like sound in normal.Last edited by abhijeet080808; 01-23-2011, 02:04 PM.Your biking tells a lot about the person you are!
