  • Need Advice

Guys, I had got my bike serviced at 11.3k Kms, 45 days ago (it being 6th & last free service). The bike is currently at 13.3k Kms, & has completed 2k Kms since previous service.
My bike currently has a lot of roughness which should get sorted with tappet & valve clearance adjustments IMO.

The service intervals as per manual is 3k Kms or 70 days (from previous service), whichever is lesser.
As you have read in the 1st line, my bike has yet to reach that mark since last service.
Can I go ahead & get the bike serviced tomorrow, without having issues with warranty? Should I get it serviced using the 7th service coupon or without recording it in the manual?
Might be a stupid question, but the warranty claim worries me.
    Please help. Thanks!

The pleasure is when your rear wheel slides, and you bring it back; and when the front wheel lifts, you take your time bringing it back.

    • Hey guys, replaced my radiator today during tha last paid servicing. But I couldn't figure out any difference between my old and new radiator. Both of them looked exactly the same. I asked the sc guys if its the new one and they replied affirmatively. Can any one point out the difference between the old and the new ones??? A pic would be very helpful...

Buddy there is no problem if you get your bike serviced before its due date or kms. I know many people includin the owners of R15 who get it done that way and none have ever faced any problem with that.

Problem arises if you go over the time or the km barrier.

Valve tappet adjustments will give you quick throttle response and avoids nothing but just noise. If your bike is rough, it indicates oil change.
I was running with yamalube semi-synthetic for around 4000kms. Yesterday I switched to Motul 15W-50 300v Synthetic oil. Now gear shifting is butter smooth. Had never felt like this before. Thanks to svjhonda.

            Congrats on your purchase.

May be you have adjust your riding position. Stance towards front and maintain your elbow parallel to the road and tug the tank with your knees. This helps to shift your weight to the frame than on the fork. Try holding the tank with your knees and keeping the hand free while braking, you will make out the difference by the fork action. Think that you are holding the steering wheel. Even then, your palm pains, go for a good pair of gloves.

My observation for R15 after completed 12K on that is main reason of roughness which we can feel / observe during riding is 1) chain looseness and 2) chain lubricant and dust

I normally do cleaning every 15/20 day with kerosene and lubricant with Motul Chain Spray. Try with that and check it, still fill so then go to SC.

Affirmative, I'd posted this on the Orkut R15 community. I'm sorry if I shouldn't be posting this here:
Okay, I replaced my radiator day before yesterday.

Got the job done (was itching to do it myself, the mech must have been really mad at me... ). The new radiators are 'exactly' the same as the old ones. Visibly there are no differences. Even the mount point for the horn is still on the radiator. This confused me, because I thought they will re-locate the horn elsewhere.

According to the mech, the point where the bracket bolts into the radiator is strengthened. So in case of a fall, the bolt will not do any internal damage. Structurally, the horn mount bracket might get bent, but the radiator won't crack. Others please confirm whether the horn is re-located or not.

Sure enough, I did see the threads have been beefed up and there are metal inserts.

                Interesting trivia:
                1) The radiator fan is made by panasonic.
                2) The radiator itself drank 350ml of coolant. This despite the reservoir having coolant till the top mark. Now when I checked again, the level in the reservoir is halfway, and I need to add more coolant. So guys, next time for a top up, don't fill coolant in the reservoir, fill it directly into the radiator.
                You get the point?? :D

                    hello everyone,

everyday i use to cruise my bike in the evening and feel very happy. today when i stopped my bike and turn the key of i saw a weird thing, the speedometer was seem to be saying me bye. the petrol meter came up after turning the key off. I am attaching the pics. the pics shows before and after. Plz help me on this, is it covered under warranty..??

One more thing. the reserve meter started 3 times in 3 days. 1st day i traveled 12kms on reserve then next day the bike started on normal ODO. after few kms it again switched to F-0.0 and I traveled 25kms. 3rd day it started with F-0.0 and I traveled F-22.3kms as shown in the pic. My tank is also nearly empty. Is both the problems related to each other???

Ok thanx for clearing my doubt and the radiator does drink a lot of coolant. They emptied a little less than half the entire bottle of coolant. However the sc guys were not interested in replacing the radiator. I had to ask them 3 times before they started working on it. One more thing, the price of yamalube semi-synth has reduced, now its Rs 368/-

Thanks, & yes I hope they help in eliminating the damn roughness. Its not an oil-change issue, as in that scenario the roughness is felt in all gears, at all RPMs. In my bike, the roughness is in gears 4,5 & 6 only.
Lets see what they diagnose at the SVC tomorrow.

Thanks man. I realise now, it was a pretty dumb question!
The roughness has made me go nuts.

Thanks! Its not due to insufficient lubing, as I have ridden the bike with the chain being well lubed, but the roughness persists. The roughness seems to be fromt he engine/gearbox, & not from the drivechain.
I'm taking the bike to the SVC tomo. Got lots of work to be done on the bike apartf rom this roughness issue.

Its mostly a case of a faulty speedometer. Get it checked at the SVC, & it might turn out to be a case of some loose connection as well.
The speedometer is covered under warranty, in case your's turns out to be faulty. Do Not Worry. All Izz Well.

                        Question for all
Is valve clearance adjustment same as tappet adjustment? I'm confused if they are the same.

                        • Guys, I got this for my babe today.

I had went to get sae90 gear oil, but coolboy suggested that the motul chain lube is worth the extra money spent, so I got the lube instead. I intend on using kerosene to clean the chain and use the motul chain lube for lubing. Only one problem now, I dont have a paddock stand lying around the house, I checked many service stations for an rx stand but it was not in stock. I then tried some local mechanics but all of them were charging too much(Rs400-Rs700) thinking that I was some fool who got a fancy looking bike......I mean I get it that they need to earn some amount for stocking the parts but charging more than 3 times the company value of the part was just utter bulshit. Add to that, no one was allowing to let me check if the rx stand would directly fit on my r15, so I just came back home.

Now I ask you guys, is the rx stand a direct fit to the r15? Also, is the rx100 and the rx135 stand the same?

Is there any temporary jugaad job that can be done so that I could lube my chain?? (I need to go for a 100 km ride on sunday and tomorrow being a saturday I can't bring the stand to home tomorrow (iron should not be brought inside home on saturdays))

                          any help guys??
A good long ride can clear your mind, restore your faith, and use up a lot of fuel.

The elegant solution is to get a rear paddock stand which will fit on either sides of the axle of the rear wheel and lift the whole rear up leaving the wheel free, something like you see in the first photo in this website: Yamaha YZF-R15 photo, Yamaha YZF R15 bike launch in India soon

Another is lube the section of the chain exposed while it is on the side stand and then bend the bike in the direction of the lean so that the rear comes off the ground and then turn the wheel for the next section of the chain. I used to do that for my RS125 and it worked for me but it had the advantage that the chain was on the right hand side.
Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut that connects the handlebars to the saddle.

                            • I am very new to biking, and a few days back I asked a question here about downshifting, I am still very confused, I used to keep the clutch fully pulled when I didnt needed the throttle After the advice given by xbhpians, thats its wrong for the bike and clutch plates, I used the following way to downshift and stop.. Say I am in 5th gear at 55 Kmph, I apply brakes -- Clutch - Downshift - Release Clutch - Brake - Pull Clutch- Downshift.. . . ..

but I get a lot of jerks after I let go for the clutch after I downshift. Please help me out guys.
