I'm still of the opinion that tappet clearance and valve clearance are two different things, and you've said the same I agree that there should be no clearance between the valve seat and the port, but clearance in this context I think implies to the clearance when the valve is actuated, which will be the travel of the valve stem.

Check the service manual once, it'll clear all your doubts!

The manual asks you to check and adjust "Valve Clearance" periodically, and the procedure mentioned is of adjusting the clearance between the valve stem and the rocker arm's tip.

        Thanks jd! This was informative.
My bike is idling correctly right now, & the performance is also alright. Will get it done once there is a need for it, as you mentioned.

Here in cuttack (grand automobile) the labour charge is Rs.150/- and I got the Yamalube Semi-synthetic Oil 15W50 for Rs 368/-
Can anyone tell the price of the rear tyre??? Has it increased now??? MRF showroom guys are quoting 1650/-.
I believe the 'paid service' charges are SVC specific & not controlled by Yamaha, obviously keeping in mind their running cost. The costs in B'lore would definitely be higher than in Cuttack, though I'm not saying 350 vs. 150 is justified here. Its good for you so long as they do a good job for 150.
BTW, here even the local mechanics charge 250 for servicing a bike.
I checked with the spares division of the SVC here, & they were not aware of reduction in price of SS. They had the (older) one costing Rs 415 only. I didn't bother much as I didn't have an option.

Sorry mate, no idea about the tyres. Why don't you call to check with the Area Sales Office, or drop them a mail?

Sorry! I'm extremely poor in maths! Did a rough calculation in my head, and posted.

LOL, 36,000 rpm does sound funny.

@ Kashif- Sorry to hear about the accident man. Take care of both yourself and your wife. I really hope you find the guy. Tell every one of your friend to be on the lookout.

I have this habit of changing oil every 1000kms and when i was using 300V on the 'zma, the oil used to start vaporing at some 1500kms.

I am still stuck with yamalube semi-synth

As you will notice in the above pic, the chain isn't straight & is bent at many links.
The mechanic was suggesting & insisting on replacing the chain (Rs.2,200), & I told him to check if there was an alternative as 13k was too short for a chain replacement. He oiled the chain & let the bike run in 2nd gear on center stand for 5-10 mins. Most of the bad links smoothened out, & the chain is much much smoother now.
1 tip & suggestion to all of you here is to keep the chain well lubed at all times. I was sometimes lazy to lube it, & delayed it several times. These bad links are definitely due to that.
So, I was not a wrong on that??? I face many time this issue when you do lubricant on the chain and after 15 days it become hard and roughness due to heavy dust on the chain. Therefore every alternate week I clean the chain and use lubricant.

Right approach, I am not doing some special way and most of mechanic guys are doing that way.

The sound would come even though the chain was well lubed man, so I thought it wasn't chain noise. But it turned out to be bad links in the chain, that I hadn't even thought of!!
Anyways, I will take care more care of the chain now.
