it has a good pick up , smooth engine, smooth bike ..but the top speed annoy's me...

kindly help what can be the issue??
Mostly i guess the issue must be with FI, as it is ok at start but the continous flow of fuel is been hampered some where.

Better is please get checked by a mechanics.

Does you bike cuts the fuel while RPM is at red lines??

does your bike picks up while you are in 1st gear???

i guess this might be the reason why it's been sold. But please get checked by Yamaha Service only. and update us.

Two questions I have got (please don't be on me if they sound annoying and very wrong)
      1. Have you recently started Riding R15
      2. Were you riding low power(100cc) before R15

If one is use to riding low power bike and very new to R15 then it might take little time for him to understand the R15's character
You would need to rev her little harder than the other low power bikes in our country in order to get power, acceleration and speed out of it

Though the R15 you have bought is of 2008, it has done just 22000kms, which means its engine must be in good condition and not exposed to heavy riding's.

Before I bought my R15 in 2009, I use to drive TVS Victor(110cc) and not use to ride her very hard. When I started riding R15, I had literally no knowledge about what does RPM actually means and how to get power and speed out of the bike by shifting at higher RPMs.

One incident in my initial r15 days, I was riding on the highway at 6the gear but was not at very high RPM and was doing speed of around 80 kmph and was enjoying the ride. Suddenly a CBZ extreme crossed me at a speed of approx 110-115 kmph , I tried to chase him up hard. But since I was not have much knowledge of proper gear shift that time what I did is just opened the throttle full till its limit thinking that my speed would increase, bike will go fast and I will beat this CBZ.
So what happened next, NOTHING, that guy went lot ahead of me and I ended up reaching 115kmph. I was very frustrated with the thought that my 1.10 lakh bike cant beet even a CBZ.
This indecent taught that "Throttle twist is not directly proportional to the power output and speed of any motorcycle". There are lot of factors to it.

One can be just told to rev the bike hard, but you will actually learn with time...

My R15 has done 56000 kms since Jun 2009 and beaten Many ZMA and Apache and Pulsars on the highways. I have ridden it very hard so far and still it clocks speeds above 135kmph

So your R15 should also be able to do it, once you get little more experienced
      I believe I can fly...

Yesterday while riding my bike abruptly got shut down. After 5 mins. it got started again. I took her to service station today, they told me it should have at least 3 L petrol in reserve. Usable petrol should be filled above that. Is that true? My bike had above a liter fuel but still got shut down.

              • ^^^ better to keep minimum of 2 liters of fuel in the tank. You don't want fuel pump issues with the bike, do you? It can be very very expensive to replace a fuel pump.

I don't think its mandatory to keep 3 ltr petrol in reserve state. I myself have had situations where the petrol had gone way below reserve level. Many times I have driven 100+ km after bike coming to reserve, once bike drive till 124. Which means fuel level must have gone to a almost finished level but it never got shut down abruptly.

not sure exactly what could be the issue but since it has happened only once and bike started again, I don't think you need to worry much. But if it happens again then definitely show to service center again

Yaa i Guess its true, you should have min. 2ltr petrol, because when the level goes too low, you can see the change in the FInjector..
thats what i think according to my experience..

Very simple! How human fill up thier household stuffs and vegetables every month and use it entire month and track the finishing stuff so that it can be brought later the starting of month again. No one tries to empty the home and wait untill everything is finished in home. So that it becomes very urgent to fill the household again.

Similarly riding R15 is fun with reponsibilties. Why you want to ride till it's last breath and gradually see him dying just because of it's fuel shortage or blow you pump.

Many times I have driven 100+ km after bike coming to reserve, once bike drive till 124 ???????

How are you riding your bike more than 100km+ in two liters?? Are you getting an average of more than 50+kmpl ?? What is the average speed you ride your R15?

Any R15 owner won't recommend riding R15 in reserve upto 70kms also, so 100kms is way beyond. I think your indicator is not fucntioning rigth.
I am still confused R15 riding more than 100+kms in reserve.

Then i have to check my bike indicator n avearge, I get 38kmpl- 45kmpl. at average speed of 80kmph-110kmph. daily.

Riding under reserve that too more than 20kms is under only serious circumstaces. Most of the R15 owner top up the fuel as soon as the last block is seen. We don't even wait for last block to start blinking and km reading goes to -ve.

Our tank is of 12 liters and there are 6 blocks for fuel which we see in our indicator. so if the last block starts blinking then your timer starts of reducing 2liters and better to get it filled.

Why to risk ?? If your Fuel pump blows up then you will be in big trouble. It cost around the 1/4 of the bike.

Never ride your bike after the block starts blinking, get it re-fuelled.

Any right amount of Fuel injector and Fuel Pump ??

R15 is different from other so handle it gently and with care so you can have good fun from it!!

                      • hello...
my bike has done around 26k kms and i have some problems now. i guess my service is due in some days, but im not using the bike regularly hence delaying it.

whenever my bike has run for say 20mins continuous and then i stop the bike, i can smell petrol from the front. happened many times. and the weird sound r15 produces(discussed a lot of times here) has become more(like moaning)

the engine stalls invariably every time i slow down the bike, and even when the bike is moving in say 3rd gear at low speed, the engine seems to stall, or atleast there is a jerk indicating the bike is gonna stop. i thought it is because of the idle rpm, but the svc guy told its ok(idle rpm is around 1.2k).

As the svc suggests, i ve been using semi synthetic oil during every service. i looked for yamalube fully synthetic(i really dont know if its available) but its not available, since i wanted to use the factory made/recommended oil. is it time to change for something better?(say motul). im a real novice regarding all these, so i need an advice here..

and for the engine oil, how many kms does the semi synth oil last? " i want to switch to fully synthetic oil now... and i might sound weird here, but does the svc use the right type of oil during servicing?" i never sit down and keep a watch of everything during servicing. i have had very bad experiences with honda(when i was riding an activa) where the people there faked servicing, and done nothing at all, so my views are bound to be a bit doubtful.
and all you guys using fully synth oil, do u change the oil at the svc or is it a DIY for you?
                        Regards...

                        • Need Help in R15 sprocket

                          Hi All,
I need some help regarding the sprocket ratio in R15:
Currently I am using stock sprocket configuration that is 14 and 42 (Drive Ratio Front / Rear).
I am planning to change the configuration to 13 and 44 (Drive Ratio Front / Rear).
Is there any problem in the above ratio? Please tell me if there is any engine problem in putting the above sprockets?
I am not much interested in top speed even 130 to 140Kmph is ok for me.

As per the details from the web I have seen the following:
From the site http://www.sprocketcalculator.com/ I have got the following table which gives the details about the sprocket ratio.
                          Front Rear Ratio Torque Speed
                          14T 41T 2.93 -2.40% 2.40%
                          14T 42T 3
                          14T 43T 3.07 2.30% -2.30%
                          14T 44T 3.14 4.50% -4.50%
                          13T 41T 3.15 4.90% -4.90%
                          13T 42T 3.23 7.10% -7.10%
                          13T 43T 3.31 9.30% -9.30%
                          13T 44T 3.38 11.40% -11.40%

And in the site Gearing Commander: Motorcycle Speed, RPM, Chain & Sprockets Calculator I have seen the details about the top speed for each sprocket configuration at Max RPM of 9998 as R15 raves up to 9998 only.
                          Front Rear Top Speed
                          14T 42T 145.50
                          14T 44T 142.6
                          13T 42T 135.10
                          13T 44T 132.40

                          Thanks

There is no medicine for feelings. If you feel SVC are theif or they don't work properly then no one can do anything. But you can change the SVC and see. As far as your problem is concern i think you have Fuelpump/Fuel Injector issue ..... Next time don't allow them to change oil unless untill you are not present there!

And Yamaha Lube which is recommended for R15 are best. i don't see any issues with them i am at 20k kms.

Check your bike by Company Showroom/SVC rather than authorised ones.

very contradictory staements above. 1st you say that you are not interested in TOP SPEED and Secondly you say that 130-140kmph is ok for you ??????

98% R15 Run at 130kmph and anything greater than 135kmph are either modified or using R15 racing datona kits.

R15 is designed for the aboe speed only and these figures are very high on highways so. If you want something more than this then you are talking on modification. and i don't think that 13/44 would give you any exceptional speeds????

Are you not happy with the current performance ???

There won't be any problem with the setup. You'll gain acceleration at the cost of top speed and since its ok with you to have a slightly lower top speed you can very well go ahead with it. Bt be prepared for a slight reduction in FE.

So what's the point doing it ?? Yeah every one have thier own ideas though.

I guess if FE and acceleration are effected then surely performace has to be effected
