  • ^^^ Though I don't have first hand experience of the Motul 300V FL in my R15, I believe it is better than the Petronas Sprinta 4T 5000 that I am using in my R15.

    See this:
700 KMs - 12 hours (6:30 AM to 7:00 PM) - hot summer with warm winds - NH9 - lots of traffic - lots of gear shifting - mostly maintaining speed at or above the 100 KMPH mark - more than 100 KG's on the bike - rider + luggage.

my oil is still very good. little loss of quantity after 2K KMs has been taken care of with a topup.

Apar, my sleep has run away somewhere after I read your post... I was feeling too sleepy till then. How many sheep do I have to count now!!!

That apart, to my knowledge you need to replace oil at every service interval and doing otherwise can effect your engine warranty. There is no confirmed news about this but most people at most places seem to say this. If you get to know any news for or against this please post here.
Thank you for the info, i was not aware of this name so the confusion. Now I am going to try this, sure,'ll post as soon as i get info on that!

        • Thanks for your help guys. Guess Ill stick to 7.5k rpm, any suggestions on how long I should continue this? Im not much of a high - revver, so I dont mind the limit. My run is 90+ % on the highway, so I used to slot it in 6th and do around 75 kmph @ 5k rpm before the 1st service.

Guess Ill pick up a bottle of Yamlube now as well. There is a noticeable drop, albeit small, in the performance after riding in the rains. I see mud everywhere on the bike after each rain ride.

Has anyone used Castrol's Power 1 Racing on their R15s ? Any feedback would be appreciated. I bought a bottle (Rs 750) to use on my 2002 Pulsar & my brother's RTR. Is it too early to shift to it on the R15 ? The rating is 4T SAE 10w-40. I havent noticed any difference in the bike after the service, will ride it more tomorrow & see.

@ Maxi - that looks like one mean motor*cuker ! How much did it cost you ? As if owning an R15 didnt attract enough attention, you had to go on and do this ! Sweet.

I have discussed even that possibility but I was told strongly that the clutch plates don't need to be touched. As such, the oil turned black only for our Hampi trip when my radiator leaked coolant but not later... My Mumbai trip stressed my bike lot lot more than my Hampi trip and the oil hasn't turned bad now.

                  • ^^^ I guess you'd be better off without touching the exhaust on the R15... but to get something like that done you need someone who knows his stuff well... I guess some Delhiites can help here with references.

Please read my last post. Joel has said long back that it is a suggestion to get it done post 5K kms. for all R15s.
What I wanted to know is:
                      1. What are the characteristics of tappet noise?
                      2. Is it common to start in every R15 post 5K kms.?
                      3. Anything specific to keep in mind (which the SVC guys may miss out on) while getting it fixed?

KP, I think the lesser no. of clutch-plates is stressing the oil! :|

                          @all who don't know:
The R15 has only FOUR clutch plates in the transmission..while the other bikes have about 6 I guess!

Not very sure about that... should depend on how well it is done. But generally a free flow exhaust gives nice punchy pull (& sound) and most after market exhausts would be free flow.

And why is the light pinkish??? the P220's or other projector beams I have seen were Blue-ish and sort of blinding if seen straight. This doesn;t look so strong.

What's the stress on the clutch plates gotta do with the oil? or at least, does that have so much impact? not very clear about it.

Yes, most of the bikes in India have 4 or 5 clutch plates - like most 4 geared ones with 4 plates and most 5 geared ones with 5 plates... RX135 5G is the only bike I know of that has 6 clutch plates.

at least, based on what I am hearing, a high revving engine would need tappet adjustment more frequently than low revving engines... that is not a problem... you gotta get your tappets adjusted for most bikes but how often would it be depends on the engine design how the bike is ridden.

BTW, welcome me to the club... I've been lazy for some days now... I have spent some time with my R15 today - I have clear indication of my tappets being loose - no need for any descriptions to find out how it sounds - I can make it out now and my engine mount bolts are loose...

Just 2000 KMs ago I make the SC guys open it up and check the tappet clearance and they opened it up and checked. I was told the clearance is right and need not adjust (damn the phone call that came in just then!). They were not at all busy that day to bluff to me because they are busy... I even told them to check all the engine bolts but this phone call might have given them a chance to skip that too.
